Still, it’s really his rookie season. But Biegel seems a bit small for an OLB. Good effort guy but not a starter.

MichiganPacker2 ·
He was a high effort player in college. He was better at setting the edge than he was as a pass rusher (He was projected in the 6th round and TT took him in the 4th. I think he might have been adequate as an end of the roster type special teams player/emergency linebacker. The problem was he was somewhat limited athletically and then he had surgery on both his feet last year. He probably lost a bit of explosion and lateral movement, and he didn't have much to spare as it was.

FWIW. TJ Watt didn’t play a preseason snap and sat on the sideline for a full month in camp trying to recover from a nasty hammy injury. Steelers are a little concerned about his history with injuries.

Vince Biegel was the poster child for being hurt going back to days at UW. So far the book on Kevin King has been spot on. Very talented but nagging shoulder issues. I hope the kid can get over because he’s got top end ability and seems like a good dude. In the end it may not matter as Josh Jackson and Jaire Alexander have looked pretty good but another decent pass rush guy couldn’t hurt. Watt showed a lot last year but like King he has to stay on the field.

OT and OLB are both equally of concern. There doesn't even seem to be a stopgap level backup at OT (Bakh/Bulaga to Murphy/Spriggs) or OLB (CM3/Perry to Gilbert/Fackrell). In both cases they are paying for some bad draft picks from TT. At OT, Spriggs and OLB: Fackrell, Biegel, and Bradford (who would be in Year 5 now). You have to think they were shopping Trevor Davis to try to get a replacement level player for a backup at one of those positions.

Vince Biegel had more TFL in 10 starts last year playing RILB for Miami than Blake Martinez had in 16 games in Green Bay. And they let him go for nothing. Maybe they should have just moved Biegel inside...

Vince Biegel demonstrated that Gutey is more than willing to quickly pull the plug on a player when he views them as little more than a waste of roster space. Unfortunately, I think Spriggs may be a bit like Hawk in that the organization has a higher view of him than most fans.

Gilbert stepping up would be a big boost for the D. Truth is, he has always looked pretty decent when given the opportunity and I think under the new regime he is going to get every chance to play right behind Clay and Perry. Got to have that 3rd edge guy producing and we already know what Fack offers (not much). Have not heard much from or about Biegel, anyone else?

Burks cleaned played that well, but notice how poorly Biegel plays this. He attacks where the ball carrier is, not realizing it's an outside zone run. Had that OT ALSO not played it poorly (chasing Biegel) and attacked Burks (as he should in a Zone scheme), there was a 10+ yard gain there. Biegel's move is an inside swim, which the OL is more than happy to allow because he's 2 steps behind the back. He has to read that, stack the OT, and force the back wide (which happened but not because of...

Biegel and now Monty Adams on the shelf with foot injuries. Didn't expect either to step in and have an immediate impact. But Adams was depth with Guion out at least four games. Hopefully Adams is able to take some snaps week 1.

Re: 2017 Packer Defense

Right now they have Daniels, Clark, and Lowry starting with Guion being the first guy off the bench. They added Ricky J-F who has looked good in camp IMO, so they're 4 deep at DT without Guion and they generally only play 2 at a time. You'd rather have as much depth as possible, but I don't think I think they will be fine.

Nebraska might be the most overrated #7 team in the history of college football. Their strength of schedule is a joke, and they went down to the wire against their "toughest" opponent (Indiana). Some factors that won't help the Huskers? They haven't had a quality road win in some time now. Heck, I'm trying to remember the last time they beat a decent team away from Lincoln. Camp Randall will be rocking. The other thing is for as well as Armstrong has played he and Nebraska haven't played a D...

Good news indeed with the injuries The most promising developments to me so far are WR (Kumerow), LB (Gilbert), and CB (Jackson). You could also throw in backup QB (Boyle). Disappointments? WR (Moore), safeties (all of the above) and LB (Biegel and Fackrell).

It feels strange to criticize anything on offense when they produced 51 points (!), but.... At this point, I think time and money would be better spent finding some OTs instead of trying to sign Mack. They're not likely to be any UFDAs, so it would have to be via trade, but we've got the guy (and ammunition) to make some deals. Regardless, it's time for Spriggs to be sent packing. When a first-round draft pick can't block second-string players, something's wrong. Bell may be decent depth,...

look forward to the first string offense in another game. the defense was pushed around - many starters did not look good, gashing rushes on us. on the flipside, te looked good, what stuck out to me was biegel, martini, hawkins, not in a good way. i think 24 is toast, i also think some of the starters should get a benching, i am talking about 21, 52 they stood out as having a real non-starter of a game. missed assignments missed tackles, come on, suppose to be getting better here.

For some odd reason, MM and Campen keep trotting out Murphy at left tackle. He cannot play there - his feet are way too slow. Bell is terrible and should not make this roster. Light is intriguing, but as a PS guy. Our tackle depth is a huge concern. I don't know what happened to Biegel, but his preseason has not been good. Gilbert is a nice story, and is the 3rd OLB, but that's more of a testament to how badly Fackerell and Biegel have played. Fackerell is just too light to play OLB on run...

Since he took over as the General Manager Gut has just eviscerated Ted's recent draft selections especially that epic 2015 class. I am stunned he sent Biegel packing. There is no way Biegel would have been cut by Ted in year 2. I only wish we had someone else at OLB besides Clay, Perry, and Gilbert so that Gut could have done the same to Fackrell.

Biegel was good as a college player but had injury issues and not much upside. Watt had an incredible junior year much like his brother earlier (and could get better). Yet you get cute and pass on him? **** you TT. You had a great career as GM but your last two drafts were awful. Maybe not his fault but Murphy? In that case **** you Murphy. Maybe that’s Hanks issue with MM. Sometimes too long is too long to hold onto people.
