Lovie might make a good DC for the Packers but I'm guessing MM sticks with Dom.

I agree, but only if you have the right personnel. You aren't going to hire Lovie and not run Tampa 2. To make Tampa 2 work, you need outstanding ILBs/MLBs. Guys like Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and Derrick Brooks that are fast enough and can make deep enough drops to take away the seam routes in the middle of the field.

Stay classy Glazers:

Bucs fired Lovie by phone

Lovie Smith AP

When the Buccaneers fired Lovie Smith last night, they didn’t even call him into the office for a meeting with the Glazers (or the Bobs).

According to multiple reports, the Bucs informed Smith he was fired via a phone call. Shortly after they called Smith, they announced the move to the public.

Some people close to Smith seem unhappy about that. As one source told ESPN’s Vaughn McClure, “You don’t hire a coach over the phone, so why would you fire him over the phone?”

It sounds like someone in the Bucs front office called Lovie and asked him to come into the office today for a meeting. Lovie started with the  "come in for what?" questions and before long he figured out it was so they could fire him. So he chose to skip the meeting altogether and had the Glazer's can him over the phone.

Fair game to question firing a guy after two seasons but it doesn't sound like they called him up and left a "You're fired" voice message.

I heard it was by a text sent by Glazer's 15 year old daughter.

" U R frd"

New GMs don't hold on to holdover Head Coaches if they have any say. They may use them for a one-year scapegoat when they tear down the roster, but that's about it.

From a certain perspective, it makes sense. If everything truly does fall to him, starting fresh with a guy he picked (and more likely with loyalty to him) is a standard move.
