A guy I keep coming back to is Cobb. What is his role? What is his value?

I think people who get concerned with Cobb's value say he's not worth 12 mil a year (his cap number this season and next). And at that salary, I can understand that. But looking at it "glass half full"...

IF, he stays healthy, with Bennett now in the mix, and Jordy and Adams, Randall Cobb should get some very favorable matchups. He could be looking at going against 3rd or 4th CB's and that would bode rather well for Cobb to potentially put up big numbers in a game.

I'd also agree with others that Rodgers really likes 18. So little doubt he'll look for him plenty in a game.

To me it comes down to health and match ups.

^^^^^Agree,

And that will suck, especially for Adams since he'll be looking to get paid.

Looking to 2018, the Packers will also not be paying 3 WR's 10-12 million a year either. Both Nelson and Cobb have 12 mil dollar cap numbers. Adams will look to  be in double figures if he comes close to his 2016 stats. No way Ted will be payin' all 3 those kind of salaries.

Funny story (or maybe not so funny) out of camp today as practice was winding down.

Taysom Hill was at QB for final 2 minute drill. He was given 1:04 and no timeouts. Hill moved the offense to the 35 with 8 seconds left and clock stopped. It's either a quick out that gets OOB or a shot to the end zone and try to leave a second for another shot if possible. Right? Hill hit a wide open route underneath for a short gain that was wide open underneath for a reason. Apparently MM had a huge "WTF was that???" face for quite a few seconds.

Hill should expect a pretty good "There are some options in that situation that you can go to. There are only two options you can't do. Take a sack or throw something short in the middle of the field" talking too this afternoon.

If all of the potential targets stay healthy, there aren't going to be enough footballs to go around for ANY of them to justify their salaries.

Or justify being on any fantasy team.

Yes, but why should we give a **** about fantasy football?

(Seriously, I can't help but think that fantasy football and the emphasis on stats has had a deleterious effect as part of the trend toward stacking the game so in favor of the offense.)

No matter what you think about it some people obviously care about it - hence the interest.  Deluded stats are not what you want from a pro teams position players for that.  What is great for the team, may not be good for other areas of life - including a players salaries or an auxiliary game like FF that depends on how well those players do.  So just thought I would highlight that.

BTW1 - I didn't make the fantasy FF/more offense connection before.  So thanks.

BTW2 - deleterious = to cause damage or harm - in case anyone was wondering.

#25 is having a pretty nice summer:

Another reserve defensive back, this time Marwin Evans, performed this week at a level that should just about guarantee a roster spot come September. While the corners are currently banged up, the team is rich at safety with starters Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett and reserves Kentrell Brice, Evans and Josh Jones. Each of the backups is blessed with solid athleticism, physical play styles and a nose for the football.

The overall strength of the defensive backfield may well depend on the cornerbacks, but in segmenting the group safety appears to be a definite position of strength heading into the season.

I almost wonder if they may cut to 2 ILBs, just Martinez and Ryan, with Randall also able to play some safety as he doesn't appear to be a top-3 CB once King and Jones are up-and-running. Burnett and Jones would then be the "Nitro" linebackers, with Ryan/Martinez together only against run-heavy formations and in short-yardage situations.

(11) House, Rollins, King, Gunter, Hawkins ----Randall---Burnett, Jones----Clinton-Dix, Evans, Brice would potentially be the "defensive backs" kept, ILBs to (13), leav ing 12 spots for OLB and D-line. They're probably going to be thin at OLB regardless, so (7) DL and (5) OLBs, or maybe 6/6, depending on Adams/Biegel injuries and any surprises.
