He clearly throws a much better ball than Flynn, but it comes down to how savvy Flynn is vs. Tolzien.  Can Tolzien be trusted to win a couple of games if necessary?  We know Flynn can do that.  I just wonder if Tolzien is one of those guys who looks good in games but does just enough to get you beat.  Maybe it's a question of development, but for this season I'd still rather see Flynn in there if the backup needs to play.  I think they'll keep all three.

Who makes it if Sherrod doesn't?  Adams looked awful too so hard to believe they keep him over Sherrod.  Someone has to play backup OT.  Sherrod seems to be the best option right now.

Perry would be a huge surprise too.  If he was a 4th round pick, yeah he'd be at risk. But TT gives high round picks more leash before he pulls the plug.

Last week we thought Sherrod was solid. Why was that?  Did he try something different this week?  If his problems/techniques aren't correctable (likely), then there is a huge problem on OL.

Perry hasn't distinguished himself. Can Perry be shopped for a veteran stopgap/backup OT on a 4-3 team?  I know trades typically don't happen, but I don't think that they would cut Perry so no one can be saying "I'll wait for you to cut him."  Unlikely idea, but who knows?

Depends on situation at NY Giants and Miami.  They signed Flynn before his trip to join McAdoo.

Right now there is no data that says Tolzien can win games in the regular season.  Rodgers said yesterday they were playing a vanilla defense missing two key starters.  Flynn is the only backup that you can clearly say he has won games in the regular season (albeit against mediocre teams).  I think they keep 3 QBs.

He and Adams most likely got a big assist from the field conditions. Probably read too much into a good performance and are reading too much into last night's bad performance. Hopefully it's correctable because the thought of what I saw last night protecting AR's blindside is frightening.

OLB is getting messy with the emergence of Elliot.  If they keep 6 you have 4 guys competing for 2 spots.

Locks

Mathews, Peppers, Neal, Perry

On the fence

Bradford, Elliot, Mulamba, Palmer.

It's really not looking good for Bradford.

In a sign that undrafted rookie outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott has moved up the depth chart after his three-sack performance against the Rams, he was on the No. 1 punt team in practice on Tuesday. He lined up at right tackle, a spot that had been occupied by tight end Brandon Bostick before his injury. That’s the first time Elliott has appeared on a top special teams unit. Elliott also was working outside with the regular defense during the early portion of practice. In the past, he had been relegated to scout-team work inside the Hutson Center during that time.

Slow grass in the rain vs speed turf in the dome

Development takes time and there will be ups and downs along the way

Many coaches opine that players make a big leap from year 1-2 and again from year 2-3

Derek had the unfortunate luck of missing all of his offseasons -  first due to the players strike, then to severe injury. So his development has been slowed considerably and the instant gratification crowd grows restless.

We really won't know his future until later on and if GB makes a play for an OT at cutdown time, then you'll know how they feel about his progress/prospects for the future. If they don't think he can perform, they will grab another OT

As far as fans making declarations in August , it offers some insight into their ability to take a long- term view ( he played poorly last night, cut him !)

And it also gives us a glimpse into how confirmation bias impacts our point of view about players and coaches.

Time will tell and nobody really knows at this point in time. Anybody who suggests he is "just a guy" is talking out of their ass because even the Packers don't know that yet.

He may be...but its way premature to make such declarations given the vagaries of player development timelines and the injuries he endured.

Patience is a virtue and its often rewarded...

Updates to my guess on 53.

1 - Bradford is going to get cut.  They won't  let go of Elliott and I can't see them keeping Bradford over Palmer or Mulamba either.

2 - 6th WR spot is wide open still. Whoever comes up big in Week 4 will earn it.

3.  Rolle is in position to take Goodson spot as last CB.  If he doesn't make gigantic strides this week he is PS bound.

4 - If Raji is out for a while he might be our designated IR return guy.  Replacement will have to come from the street or early return from Guliean (sp?)
