Demovsky reporting House may miss the last 2 regular season games.

Davon House could be out until playoffs

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- If the Green Bay Packers need Davon House for the playoffs, assuming they make it, he should be available, but the final two regular-season games look unlikely.

The fourth-year cornerback said Monday that doctors told him he won't need surgery on his injured right shoulder.

"I still have some healing to do," House said. "Inflammation's down, so it's really just time now."

House saw a specialist last Friday after he was injured in the Dec. 8 game against the Atlanta Falcons while breaking up a pass in the end zone that was intended for Julio Jones. He was inactive for Sunday's loss at the Buffalo Bills

House almost certainly won't play in Sunday's game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and even the regular-season finale against the Detroit Lions is far from a lock.

"I'm praying for Detroit, hopefully," House said. "We'll see. Of course it would be nice to be out there this Sunday, but I think that would be reaching, but hopefully Detroit."

@ByRyanWood: McCarthy said there has been no update on RT Bryan Bulaga yet. He said CB Davon House is progressing nicely.

@ByRyanWood: McCarthy said #Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga is in the concussion protocol.

@ByRyanWood: McCarthy knows opponents identify #Packers special teams as a weakness: "Our special teams are going to be stressed down the stretch."

@TyDunne: MM on missing Lang/Sitton on blocked kicks: "We continue to work different players in there and our opponents continue to challenge us."

@RobDemovsky: McCarthy: "We don't feel like we have personnel right (on special teams)." ... Sounds like changes might be coming.

@TyDunne: Asked on Lacy/run game again, McCarthy repeats that he's "very comfortable with the way the game was called."

@RobDemovsky: McCarthy: Thought we had good balance running it/ throwing it. The passing game was there. There's probably 1 or 2 calls I wish I had back.

Rodgers called the BUF game a stinker, can't argue.

Is aware of the playoff scenarios. Gotta win at TAM. Right now it looks like the #1 seed is out of our reach, but who knows. Everything is right in front of us.

Expects to play very well at TAM.

Pack your stuff fella's. You're going to be going away soon.

Bears were a zombie team last night. I expect the Bucs will be the same next Sunday. At this point in the year on a team like that, it's don't hurt yourself, get the bags packed for the off-season trip, hope to survive next year, possibly somewhere else...

I thought Tretter did a solid job in place of Bulaga aside from him allowing Mario Williams to get his freakishly long arms around the corner to strip the football. I won't be worried if Bulaga can't go.

Going against these tall receivers will be a good warm up for playing against Megatron. Shields needs to get his butt in gear, he's in a slump.

This should be the defenses chance to pitch a shutout.  At the very least, I anticipate a few turnovers.

I also want to point out that Brad Jones has been serviceable in his snaps.  I'm a little surprised there are not more articles out there about the consummate professional Jones has been.  He took his demotion like a pro and never complained.  He really established the model for taking a demotion.

I think Hawk and Jones are competing over who's best at taking a demotion. I think Hawk took a pay cut better but I have Jones barely ahead on demotion. Either way it's admirable stuff.

Lovie, today:

@ByRyanWood: Smith on #Packers: We know what we're getting. We're getting the best football team in the league. That's what we're preparing for.

@ByRyanWood: Smith says EDS part of Bucs foundation: "He's been great. ... He's a confident football player. He's not a guy who will shy in the corner."

@ByRyanWood: EDS on whether Sunday means more playing against #Packers: "Nah. I've had more than enough games to prove what I can do."

I can't remember wanting a week to go by any faster than this one. Granted a loss like Buffalo will do that, but the negativity surrounding the loss in this state and in the media has been effin unbearable. What a week to week product the NFL has created. I hope GB lays waste to every team from here on out and I can look back at this week with a grin.

I had a feeling that Buffalo game was going to be like a trip to the dentist, painful.

I don't have that same feeling about this one.  It's a warmer weather site, the Pack has a full week of practice instead of the shortened week they had last week.  Tampa does have some talent here and there with 2 tall and talented receivers plus RB Doug Martin, but overall they are not in the class of the Pack.

The key in this game is to hang onto that freaking ball and make sure you're always carrying it with 2 hands when tacklers approach.  Lovie Smith's defenses make a living on guys who are loose with the football.  I think that's the only way Tampa stays in it, is if guys are not taking care of the ball on offense and Tampa gets a fumble or 2 to go their way.

From what I've read, it seems the problems with special teams really started when Sitton and Lang were take off the units. If it's been this big a problem I don't understand why they haven't been put back out there. Is a FG or punt protection play any less valuable than a 3rd and 5 play or another other play? I would think if you had to kick a FG to win a game you'd want those two out there.

This is a game to re-establish some confidence and Mike Evans is a nice test for covering Calvin Johnson. The defense shut down Sammy Watkins in Buffalo, so I'd expect a similar effort this week.

Two other things. No more Jarrett Boykin. McGinn commented that his lack of speed really hurt them in punt coverage. Unless Janis has no idea what he's doing related to the schemes, then he needs to play on special teams. It's no use activating Boykin because I don't think they can trust him as a WR anymore.

Also, they need to once and for all sit Hawk down. The game reviews pointed out as soon as the Packers went base defense to start the second half, the Bills ran it right up the gut at Hawk 9 straight times. There were many other things that caused them to lose that game, but letting the Bills get a lead there was a big momentum swing.

Transaction:

The Green Bay Packers have signed Safety Jean Fanor to the practice squad.

Fanor , a 6-foot, 205-pound, first-year player out of Bethune-Cookman, was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as a non-drafted free agent on May 11, 2012. He was waived by the Chiefs on Aug. 27, 2012, and has played for the Tampa Bay Storm for the 2013 and 2014 Arena Football League seasons. Fanor set a franchise record with 128.5 tackles in 18 games this past season. He will wear No. 20 for the Packers

Another safety from Bethune-Cookman...

Nicks adding up:

@WesHod: Did not participate: House, Bulaga, Sitton (toe)
Limited: Lang (ankle), Neal (abdomen), Lacy (eye), Matthews (biceps), Perry (shoulder)

@TyDunne: McCarthy on Bulaga: In concussion protocol. Looks great. Saw him in weight room. He's making progress.

@RobDemovsky: McCarthy: Eddie (Lacy) has a situation with his eye that's not game related. Don't think Clay (Matthews) is a serious nature.

@ByRyanWood: McCarthy on Matthews biceps: "I don't think Clay's is of serious nature. I think we'll be OK there." Just normal "wear and tear" of season.

Playoffs?

@RobDemovsky: McCarthy: We elected the six playoff captains. I felt the need to give these men the chance to stand up front. It's time to ramp it up.

@RobDemovsky: #Packers playoff captains will be: Rodgers and Nelson (offense), Peppers, Burnett (defense), Cobb, Bush (special teams)

@RobDemovsky: McCarthy: This is an opportunity to take the platform. Leadership is something every coach is focused on. Has to come from the locker room.

@TomSilverstein: McCarthy: "This is the start of our playoff process. This is a playoff-type preparation. We talked about it in our meeting."

Good move IMO. MM usually has a great sense of the pulse of the locker room.
