We have completed half the season and the Packers' Defense ranks 22nd overall in yards given up (9th against the pass and 32nd against the run). They are also 19th in points given up per game (23.9).

Last year they were 25th in total yards (24th against the pass and 25th against the run) for the season. The D finished tied for 24th in points per game (26.8).

Coach McCarthy promised the D would be better in 2014 after the additions of Clinton-Dix and Peppers and I think it is a little bit better. Hopefully, the D will get even better in the 2nd half of the season.

I don;t know if it is Capers or it is talent which would fall under Thompson.  Hawk may be the smartest linebacker that has ever played the game but the guy can't blitz, can't cover, and can't get off a block to make a tackle to save his life. But game after game we see him doing his thing. I remember TT saying he prayed that Hawk would be there when he was drafted. Be careful what you pray for Ted. You may get what you want.

Always onside kick. Short field. Instantly reduces number of yards given up. Ranking improves. Brilliant.

On a slightly more serious note. I do believe Winston Moss should be escorted off the property at 1265.

Jamari Lattimore has regressed every week since taking over for Brad Jones. Culminating in him looking absolutely confused and lost last night. He was going off instincts the first couple starts. Very raw and rough. But the uptick in speed over Jones was immediately evident. Fast forward to last night and it's like watching Jones in a different uni.

I don't know what it is Moss and Co. are selling the ILB's during the week. But it's either too much and too deep and these guys seize up due to over thinking everything or Moss and Co. are simply selling a bag of **** and can't actually coach LB's.

Funny how all the geenyous' on this board were clamoring for anyone besides Jones. Lattimore is the savior.  Most on here, think that the coaching staff should be charged with malpractice, since they aren't playing the "best" players.  Now we see, that the "better" players aren't as good as what everyone thought.  I hope Lattimore/Barrington continue to develop, but this thought process that the coaches aren't playing the best players, is ridiculous.  Maybe Lattimore can't comprehend the defensive concepts?  His instincts are good, but playing in the concept he's not good?

Actually, he was removed from the 3rd down D this week.

That's what happens when the league wants the rules slanted towards Offenses.  How many teams have a dominant D?  None.  The Colts held Cincinatti to under 200 yards and a shut out last week, this week, they give up 50+ points.  The league and teams have been moving towards the idea that the best D, is one that can put up 35+ points and get into a track meet with the other team.  Watch the PIT/IND game yesterday, that game put D strategy back about 30 years, but that's what the NFL wants.

I've read that Hawk starts cuz "he set the correct alignments, & knows all the plays". Trouble is he doesn't make any/many plays at the line or the edge. He must be the slowest of foot ILB in the NFL. If over this "recess" Capers brings a scheme that slows down the opposition I'll rejoice!!! If Hawk is still out there, piling on after the tackle, watching the RB run past him, skipping into the line on a blitz I'll know there is no cure at this time. It a damn shame that Aaron Rodgers is stuck trying to compete with some of the "empty uniforms" of this D.
