From Matt Bowen on staying warm and lubricated:

Bring out Vaseline

A jar of Vaseline is an old trick from veteran players to block out the wind. Want to look tough and avoid wearing sleeves? Rub Vaseline all over your arms and slap some on your face. It sounds kind of ridiculous, but I used Vaseline in Green Bay from Thanksgiving through the playoffs when the temperatures would fall. Players want to show off their arms on a national stage in the playoffs, but to avoid shaking from the cold, you need to cover up with Vaseline. It's slimy and it takes some time to scrub off after the game, but it sure does work. And it's much easier than wearing a ski mask under your helmet.

Players who played regularly in cold weather also said they avoided the sideline heaters as much as they could. Ironically, they said it made it worse because you wouldn't get adjusted to the cold. Apparently warm weather teams made that mistake all the time and bitched about going back on the field and feeling even worse.

Packers QB coach Alex Van Pelt said Aaron Rodgers has watched all the film from practice that he's missed this week while getting treatment for his calf. "Watching every drill we did gets him in tune with the game plan, all the little things that he's not going to see at practice," Van Pelt said.

Packers RB coach Ben Sirmans said James Starks did not sustain any injuries other than the concussion from the car accident he was involved in on Monday. "I talked to him after the accident," Sirmans said. "There's no issues."

The Packers weren't the only team to think Ty Montgomery could play running back. The Rams also thought about him that way when he was coming out of Stanford as a receiver. "They wanted me to look at him as a possible third-down back," said Packers RB coach Ben Sirmans, who previously coached the position for the Rams. "I do remember looking at him when he was at Stanford and I was at St. Louis, as a guy we could potentially draft as a third-down back."

Looking through some stats, it's remarkable how similar the Packers and Bores are this year, both offensively and defensively. Virtually dead even passing, rushing, kicking (and defending the same), sacks, fumbles, and more.
They would have been even in turnover differential until last week....

The one HUGE difference that exists is scoring offense; we are scoring more than 8.5 points/game than the Bears. Chicago is barely averaging 1 TD passing/game. They apparently don't have a problem gaining yards via the pass, but can't put it in the endzone.
I don't expect them to improve on that this Sunday. I do expect us to score 7-10 points more than them.

I would expect the Bears to try to come out and establish the run - Howard has had a very good year, only a few yards short of 1000. Would think Dom will be thinking the same.  Alshon's first game back from suspension, and Meredith is pretty good, but they lost their TE(Miller) and Barkley doesn't scare me- especially in the cold.

Packer Offensive line needs to protect Rodgers. Bears have a very good front and will be looking to spoil our season. Hopefully not too windy where we can throw it a bit., and mix in Monty and Christine. Christine needs to hold on to the ball.

Hopefully we see the same energy that we saw against Seattle.

Last game the Packers were starting Goodson and Gunter outside with Hyde in the slot. Barkley, Jeffrey, etc... did not have that much success.

Gunter has improved a lot this season, they have Randall and Rollins back at or near 100% and Goodson is on IR. Then, Dom has his swiss army knife with Burnett so this should be a win.

Packers will have Jake Ryan back this week too and that helps the run stuffing. GB was willing to trade off better pass coverage ( Joe Thomas and Morgan Burnett) vs the Seachumps, but this week will focus more on stuffing the run and forcing Barkley to win the game.

Remember: Barkley's a SoCal weather-pussy...

Is that new? Used to be blocked for the games.

Thats also what I thought.  There was also some buzz around here about a link where the radio broadcast was synced up with the tv.  Anybody?

Last year they started keeping the stream open during games.  A couple times this year I used the DVR to sync with the broadcast (but it would get messed up through commercials).

WAPL out of Appleton had the broadcast sync'd with the TV 2 weeks ago.  I couldn't get their stream to work last week.  I don't know if it was an issue or if they were frowned upon for syncing.

Either way, you're golden with just the WTMJ online stream.

Donno if this is a "Bears Week" thread but I will post anyway. I looked at our last win over them this season. It was close the first half. We could not punch it in at the one. Barky made some throws despite just coming off the bench, Howard can run and their DB's covered well. Also they had a good pass rush. They are no pushover. This is a true rivalry and should be treated as such. I still expect a win but I thought the same for many other games this season that we ended up losing. For me the keys to win this game is (of course) Aarons health, receiver separation and the ability to get our running game to be seen as a threat. Michael and Ty need to be able to pick up 3-4 yards at least when called upon and a couple of longer ones when called upon. Otherwise they just blanket our receiver's and rush Aaron all day. In fact that needs to be the goal for the rest of the season. Oh and a couple of "Jeff! sweeps" couldn't hurt.

It's hard to imagine ARod coming out of the game as long as he's able to gimp around, but if the offense is struggling, it's a valid consideration.
A QB scrambling to convert a 3rd down could be valuable in inclement weather, and nothing puts a defense on its' heels quicker than a sustained drive.

Dall-ASS' OL gets all the hype but the Packers OL has got to be one of the most under rated lines in the NFL. They have protected AR extremely well and I don't expect that to change.

The Bears also have a secondary with far worse injuries then GB had dealt with and is literally playing 2 guys they picked up off the street.

The goal for MM is to get AR the hell off the field ASAP. I think GB is going to try to build a 3 possession lead and then pull Rodgers.

I also expect to see a ghost town at Soldier Field. A Chicago Fox Sports reporter was on yocal radio here on Friday and said fans are bailing on Bears games all season and the place gets emptied out by the 3rd Q.

In -3 weather? That place could be empty by halftime.
