Datone suspended for opener

Correction: I said Datone Jones tested positive for a substance. He in fact "violated" the substance abuse program. Could be a missed test.

Still waiting for the NFL's decision regarding Letroy Guion's possible suspension.

Maybe no news is good news on that front.

Can you test positive for injury?

Unrelated to the Pack, but Antonio Gates and Sheldon Richardson (DE Jets) were suspended 4 games today also.

A few others announced today.

First 2 substance abuse, Gates for PEDs.

Don't forget Rolando McLain. 4 gamer as well. If you could test positive for stupidity Rolando would get a lifetimer. 

Twitterati are suggesting there is no precedent in the substance abuse penalties for a one-game suspension.

Maybe Datone's name was on the bags.

Maybe his cell phone was off when the NFL called to tell him to show up for the drug test.

Or maybe he failed to check the caller ID before answering.

If missing your test results in one game, and testing positive gets you 4 games, then the guys who got four games are really stupid.   

@AlbertBreer: Was asked about Datone Jones' 1-game suspension, not part of penalty schedule. 1-gamers usually incidents involving drugs w/o positive test.

@MattWintner: Heard form a reliable source that more NFL news may be announced tomorrow, which would also encompass domestic violence related suspensions.

We'll see if teams have enough players available for the games after those suspensions get handed down.

Jones was ticketed for marijuana possession after NFC title game

GREEN BAY – According to City of Green Bay Municipal Court records, Green Bay Packers defensive end Datone Jones was ticketed for marijuana possession on Jan. 19 – the day after the Packers’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game – and paid an $880 fine a month later.

That would explain why Jones received a one-game suspension from the NFL on Thursday for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, meaning the third-year defensive end will miss the Packers’ Sept. 13 regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears.

According to the Green Bay Municipal Court website, Jones pleaded guilty to possession of THC and paid his fine on Feb. 10, and the case was then closed. The case is considered a civil ordinance violation, not a misdemeanor or criminal conviction.

It's not like he's a star yet.  Yes, he's had moments, but not enough.  Anyone think he's got 2 strikes on him and no slack for future errors?

I am not a big Datone Jones fan, though I hope he makes that change this year. 

Weed is such a league-wide issue, as it reflects in our society. It is this close to being legal across the nation. So, I don't disparage him too much for that. Far healthier than alcohol. 

Problem is, it remains illegal to smoke here in Wisconsin, and he got a simple possession bust, which is really just a ticket. 

A good old friend lives in the Point Hilton complex where the Seahawks stayed for the SB. Said the place was solid weed at their post SB party there. 

Not going to bust Datone's chops on this too much. Just wish he would produce on the field. I want to see real improvement in his game, and have yet to see that over past two years.

Wonder how much Datone had on him?  Hopefully like 6 ounces.  Just doing the math

Guion Suspension = (12 oz Guion Pot / X oz Datone Pot) * 1 game

So if Datone only had a quarter on him Guion could be looking at 3 years suspension.  ;-)

On a more serious side, if Datone gets a game for this (which sounds like small time possession) I imagine Guion is looking at at least 4 games.

A lot of Steelers fans are still extremely butthurt over their team's defeat in Super Bowl XLV. However, we Packers fans aren't much better, as a good sized contingent are still butthurt against the Broncos over XXXII.

I'm still butthurt against the 40Whiners for the Jerry Rice non-fumble call.

I know this may shock you but I was banned from commenting on PFT about 7 years ago.

There's a difference between the game still stinging and still actively rooting against a team that beat your team in a game played in 1998 (the definition of butthurt). Still hate seeing highlights from XXXII, but I haven't cared one bit about the fortunes of the Broncos for about 15 years.
