"Hawk and Barnett both played well in '09 and Bishop finally got his shot in 2010."

I couldn't disagree more and without agreeing on that, there is not point in discussing if the brass stuck with him too long.   From your POV, it's not sticking with them if they are playing well.

One last thing, your argument that the depth wasn't good behind Hawk ignores the fact that we was resigned multiple times.  I personally don't think he was ever worth an extension, I assume you disagree because you saw him as playing well, and that part of the reason he was given the extension was because the brass tends to over value their own guys.  AKA, loyal to a fault.

Brad Jones is another example.   I don't know if Jones gets that contract anywhere else.

You don't agree that Hawk and Barnett played well in 2009? The defense was 7th overall, that doesn't happen if two important positions are playing poorly. I don't think Hawk played well for GB after 2010 and in hindsight I don't think he deserved extensions, but it's not McCarthy's call in the end who gets extended. I'm sure he has input in who he would like to keep, but ultimately the GM puts the roster together and the coach figures out how to make it work. Your original point was that McCarthy stuck with Adams over Janis because he's "loyal to a fault", citing Hawk as the example. It's a ridiculous idea in the first place that a coach would play inferior players for no reason other than loyalty and that's not example of being overly loyal, that's McCarthy sticking with best player available at that position. Sounds strange because Hawk was so bad and at the time it seemed like dropping Hawk in favor of anyone else was a no brainer, until anyone else actually did play and it was just as bad or worse. Your point about Jones not getting that deal anywhere else is correct, but it reinforces that point, the depth behind Hawk was terrible. I don't understand why it seems so unbelievable to some here that Janis just wasn't good enough to be a factor at WR? It wasn't a conspiracy or some arbitrary choice to stick with who played, it wasn't a McCarthy problem it was a Janis problem. That reasoning was/is good enough for every other player at the bottom of the roster...no one questioned why Jarrett Bush got minimal PT his whole career? He might be better now or get better in the future, who knows, but his first two seasons he definitely hadn't earned playing time at WR.

TJ f**kin Yates? How bad is the state of QB play in the NFL when this guy is mentioned after Romo and Bridgewater go down? And this is not from some fringe beat guy or 50 Drunk Naglersβ„’.
