3 players with at least 10 receptions, and Jordy is not one of them.

That's a huge positive to me. He didn't lock on Jordy or the first option. He found the open guys. Still off on some throws, but he looked more like Aaron than Erin.

And they should.

I remember how things turned into a disaster when Finley was the focus.  If we are not going 'multiple' we need to not have 1 target on 11 or 40/50.

12 looked more accurate and confident.  Running game ended up more multiple than expected.

Things are growing and I am pleased.

#1 Ya, it's the Bears, but offensive rhythm and production is a big first step for this Offense.

Possy #2, mini bye before 12 and Company return to the ATL.

(#3) 4-2 and live another day > 3-3 and lynch mobs and pitchforks

+1: Anybody else as surprised as I was when the announcers said GB did not have a 3Q TD all year? Good to get off that mark!

+2: Rodgers in the second half was much better throwing the short, timing routes. He also did a better job being calm in the pocket. He finally resembled the QB we're used to seeing. Not all the way there yet, but it's a start.

+3: MM had some innovation in his plays.

--1: It was only the Bears, and that's a bad team right now.

++++4: It was the Bears and any time we can beat them, I'm a happy fan!!

Rodgers looked better but he wasn't on top of his game.  Adams bailed him out on two TD's.

The fade was thrown inside and Adams made a great play to get his arms behind the defenders back.   A better CB at a minimum knocks that one down.

On the wide open TD, again the pass was behind him and also low.  It's a catch Adams should make, but if he doesn't we are all baffled at how ****ty of a pass it was.

Call me a Debbie Downer, but I'm not ready to say "he's back."   It's a good sign and a good start to see him start looking more comfortable in the pocket.  That said, there were still some accuracy issues and yet another turnover.

Well, I agree with BD. The throw to Adams for his second TD reinforced what Bowen said about Rodgers in the article mentioned in an earlier thread: "...when he throws the ball, his shoulders are open to the target, so he's almost parallel. His feet are in cement. He's not following through, and it's all arm. And because of that, the ball is thrown behind the intended target."

The TD to Adams was thrown low and behind Adams because Rodgers didn't have his feet set. It was all arm. Adams was on tonight and did a good job of making Rodgers look better than he actually was on both TDs.

But, Rodgers did some other things better than he has recently, so tonight the glass is half full.

Ah ****ing men.

Bring Cuqui back.

Please?

Pos + I won $20 & have a shot at $100 if the Packers sweep the Bears this year!

Neg - Didn't cover the over. But who knew Hoyer would break his arm? Feel bad for the guy!

Pos + What, what WHAAAAAT?!??! A 2nd half touchdown???? What the hell is going on out there??!?!

Neg - Bears defensive TD

Pos + Nick Perry!!! Frigging BEAST! Who is this guy?

Neg - Don Jackson injury. Christ I'm about to send Fedya up there for a tryout!

Pos + Keep running the ball when the defense is dropping 7 into coverage!

Neg - Our WR coach needs to teach separation techniques or be terminated for someone that can.

Pos + Needed this win BADLY

Neg - ATL next & I think they're very good this year. Wifey picked them to beat Denver a couple weeks ago.

Pos + Ty Freaking Montgomery! Why did it take until game 6 to get him involved in the offense??

Neg - McCarthy going for it on 4th & goal then calls that bulls#it Handoff. Then has that stupid look on his face. Stop sending in McStoooooopid plays!

I thought Gunter was much better tonight, particularly in the first half. He was right with Jefferies and didn't give up much of anything. Good to see him come back strong after last week.

I am hardly an authority as I've missed more game minutes and x4 talk than most this season, but as I did post back in TC or in early season, Ty had a serious, serious injury affecting his wheels and that it looked to me that the staff wanted to ease him back in to scrape off injury rust, playing time, and NFL rust in general. Unlike Jordy, Ty lacks reservoirs of pro playing time and it is not at all unreasonable to think that both he, and the coaches, needed time to get their feet under themselves on how to use 88.

I stand by this view.

Love me some more

Dom Capers defensive scheme shows us again that it is more than adequate against 3rd string QB's on bad offenses.  Now, if Ted could just spend about 3 more first round picks on the D, we could be adequate against 2nd string QB's.

+++

Rodgers played a lot better.  Body language was better too.

Monty looked great.  He's added a nice element to the offense and hope he can stay healthy.

Gunt stepped up

D played pretty well overall

4-2 and still in the mix

----

MM 4th down call near the goal line

More damn injuries.  This team just can't catch a break.

Don Barclay is no TJ Lang

NFLFU on Thursday night games.  Players hate them and the quality of play has suffered

Positives:

I am not one to usually care about uniforms but I kind of dug the all whites

They beat the Bears and that is all that I need.  no matter what the records are it doesn't matter TBSS! TBSS! TBSS!

D only allowed 3 points. That's huge no matter who the QB is. You're allowed to be complementary of the defense without liking Capers.

The positive is that they found something that works. Bong's hero Vic Fangio (or #2 hero behind Ray Horton) is supposedly a good coordinator, but the Packers had a good gameplan to make up for the lack of RBs or running game. It doesn't mean Rodgers is "back", but it's a positive effort to build on and...dare I say it: stack success (thanks Mike!). Atlanta is a better team and a better defense and they won't be able to get away with no true RBs, but the receivers showed ability to get open, McCarthy utilized all his options, and Rodgers was finally accurate. It's a confidence builder, something this team needed badly.

Teams typically "wear out the defense" with a powerful run game, however the short passing game appeared to accomplish the same objective. It looked like Chicago's defense, having to rush the passer down after down, & cover down after down, really wore down in the second half. A different way to accomplish the same goal.

Pos.

Rodgers looked a lot better

Great game from Adams.  What a difference when the receiver makes the tough catch in the end zone.

Got some production from Montgomery/Cobb in the backfield

Corners held up decently (though against a crappy QB)

Negs

Rodgers' fumble

Nelson, tight ends MIA

Cobb failed to make a play twice in the end zone. I dunno.  Maybe the fb gods are balancing out Adams' touchdowns.

Not much of a downfield passing attack.  Would like to seem them take a shot or two downfield to Davis or Janis.  Would give the defense something to think about at least.

Not much pass rush

Got gashed a few times on the ground

On balance

Good win against a weak opponent, but they all count. Bonus points for winning despite being really banged up at RB/CB.

Hope they get Randall or Rollins back before ATL.  Covering Jones is going to be a challenge.

brainded - Rodgers developed a lot of bad habits over the past 12-16 games, it will take time to break those and get back to the AR we've known.

ilcuqui / heckler - i too liked the all whites. for color rush, not disgusting

boris - with this defense i'd not bet the over. very tough with a lead. irregardless of Dom Capers Sucks™

ilcuqui - agree with that assessment of Monty and the return from the injury. similarly, when nelson gets back to 100% the back shoulder timing should return

That's just like, your opinion, man

+ I think we finally confirmed what Adams is good at: bodying for balls and catching poor throws. Hit him in the chest and he can't catch a cold, but make him fight for it and he's there.

- I don't care if you have no RB on the roster or Christian Okoye, Jeff Janis should NEVER be lined up as a fullback and expected to be a lead blocker. Ever.

It's a win, but I'm not praising much just yet. Show me a good win against a quality opponent and that will change, but they still fell back to crappy isolation routes far too often, usually to predictable results. Stack some successes.

What does Janis actually do anymore? I said in TC he was valuable as a ST player because he was an excellent gunner and could return kicks pretty well. He's been a terrible returner this year and has disappeared as a gunner. He's caught a couple passes for minimal gains, but why keep 7 WRs if the 7th isn't really doing anything?

sounds like a match with the Packers new QB.

I believe this is the second Big Lebowski picture posted here on X4 this week lol. All Aaron needs to do is make himself a White Russian with non-dairy instant coffee creamer and he is set.

Janis just does not seem like a "football player" to me. Makes dumb plays (although he is reported to be "non-football" smart). I think he gets the interference call if he keeps running on the short third down route. He has the look of a guy who is an athlete playing football, not a football player.

Receiver pacing:

Cobb on pace for 104 receptions (70% catch%), 1,034 yards, 5 TDs

Adams on pace for 74 receptions (65% catch%), 933 yards, and 13 TDs

Jordy on pace for 72 receptions (52.9% catch%), 856 yards, and 13 TDs

Career highs are bold, career lows in red.

Pos - Injuries forced MM to re-invent the offense a bit. We will see if this works down the road when teams have film on it.

Schum didn't suck as much.

Neg - As bad ass as run D is...pass D leaves much to be desired.

Meech Goodson is horrid...though he could start at nickel for the Bears.

Goal line O

Your first point is a great one. With no real typical RBs, no threat at TE, and with Jordy Nelson not back to being able to beat guys deep, MM has the challenge (and an opportunity) to design a "new" offense. All the tendencies on film will likely go out the window and there should be a lot of unscouted looks (especially with a mini-bye this week). Put the best football players at the skill positions on the field and design plays to maximize their talents rather than fit them into the system. It's clear that they don't have the players for the system they want to run  without Lacy, Starks, a healthy Cook, and still-recovering Nelson.

The other positive - if we have been told before the season that they'd be playing a game without Lacy, Starks, Sitton, Shields, Randall, and Rollins (and with Nelson getting 1 catch for 9 yards) and would have beat any team 26-10 we'd have taken it in a heartbeat.

I cut the pass D some slack. When your #4/5/6 CBs become your #1/2/3 I think you end up having to surrender some short/medium plays to prevent big plays. Necessity forces you to play bend/don't break on the back end and hope that the front 7 can make plays.

I agree with this in the 1st half, but the 2nd half they went full on dink and dunk and that will get D's to have to respect the short game and allow Jordy to once again work the deeper routes, T.Davis too.

AR was 20 of 26 in the 2nd half for 176 and 3 TDs. 132 QB rtg. Highly efficient!

Jordy still coming back from the ACL. I expect his pace is not linear as the year progresses.
