Last night, the appeal officer jointly selected by the NFL and the NFL Players Association to handle the Ray Rice appeal hearing determined that the Commissioner will be required to testify. PFT later learned that there are no pre-set limits on the questioning, and that the interrogator will be longtime NFL nemesis Jeffrey Kessler.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, more recent NFL nemesis Peter Ginsberg also intends to question Goodell.

Well well well. Way to go Roger.

@RapSheet: Ray Rice is immediately eligible, source says, by winning his appeal.

@adbrandt: As per @RapSheet, Ray Rice has won his appeal of his indefinite suspension. Judge Barbara Jones issued ruling today.

@AdamSchefter: Judge believes Ray Rice did not lie.

Won't be signed for a while, if at all, though.

@adbrandt: Judge Jones used the word that NFL lawyers feared in defending Goodell's punishment: "arbitrary." It was the buzzword of Rice case.

@adbrandt: Rice team argument was that indefinite suspension was an NFL knee-jerk reaction to public outrage over the video.  Ruling supports it.

@adbrandt: Note from ruling: when DV policy changed to 6 games, Goodell called RR to assure him new policy would not affect him, was forward looking

@adbrandt: Key to hearing was whether “starkly different sequence of events” than captured on the “inside-the-elevator” video. There was not.

By in large I don't think the players' union has been well served by De Smith. His complaints about Goodell and player discipline are well-founded, though.  Fedya's comment above nails it.

Colts need RB help too:

@JasonLaCanfora: The Colts would be the ideal choice for Ray Rice (not that he'll have a say in which teams approach him, if any) ....

@JasonLaCanfora: Rice has a strong relationship with Colts coach Chuck Pagano and is well liked by Colts players like Redding and Jones, who he's played with

@JasonLaCanfora: Staying somewhat closer to his home in New Rochelle makes sense, and Colts badly need help at RB, in the screen game and in pass protection

@JasonLaCanfora: Colts have a smaller media market and a small market in general. And Colts owner Jim Irsay has had to ask for 2nd chances himself.

The independent report commissioned by the NFL in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal has found the league did not see or possess the infamous video of Rice striking his then-fiancee before its widespread release in September.

Moreover, the Mueller Report, which was overseen by former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III, claims its investigation “found no evidence” someone at the league office had confirmed receiving the video, as The Associated Press had reported.

Goodell interviewed by 60 minutes at MetLife last night on a piece aimed at safety initiatives.

On a Thursday night. When traveling teams have 72 hours to recover from an NFL game before traveling and play another game. To expound on his player safety initiatives.

He's just in this for the money. He doesn't give a **** about player well being.
