I think any employer would fire an employee IF it was made public. No company wants some crusader in their building demanding to know why that company is okay employing a known wife beater. They especially don't want an article in the paper to read "Vice President of Finance at Company X was arrested for domestic violence..." If the arrest or investigation is not made public then I think it depends on the employee, how it affects their job, the specific company (Chick-Fil-a won't keep a wife beater on staff), and the owner/CEO/manager/whoever.

Inappropriate.  just my opinion.

I don't believe in any god, but Henry's posts show why so many people -- including a lot of the agnostics I hang with -- really dislike militant atheists.

(Because this thread wouldn't be complete without some execrable 70s music.)

Yet here you are all red assed and sad.   For starters, not an atheist.  Don't be intimidated.  There's a reason you cling to Libertarianism, it's a perfect place to hide with no real convictions.

I bet you still cling to some old vestige of an idea you know is wrong but are too much of a candy ass to acknowledge it, like some kind of safety net.

It's really liberating to say when it comes to god, "I have no clue and neither does anyone else".

This is a Packer board.  Sure there is latitude beyond all things Packers and NFL, but to offer some of my opinion, Jesus Christ ranges from somewhat liked to extremely highly loved by many folks in the American culture.

The criticism of something held quite highly by many is often even totally unsolicited, at least by the majority of folks.

And mark this...I am not hear to denigrate atheism or other beliefs.

WHA...?!?! Why, I had no idea. People know about this guy? Color me shocked but edified!

THIS is why I keep coming back.

Solid article here by the Washington Post about NFL league and team security. Crawling with former Fed and state LE officials.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...a88884ffd_story.html

No question in my mind that pros like this could have readily developed all the evidence out there about Rice's situation.  I'd suppose that the NFL leadership sent them signals that they weren't that interested in the whole story and would rely on the NFL spin machine to sell Roger's decision without any huge difficulties.  A total miscalculation even before the video came out this week.

It's more and more apparent to me that both Goodell and the Ravens' leadership (who IMO have largely gotten a free pass over this whole episode) allowed themselves to be swayed by Ray Rice's heretofore impressive body of community work and Janae's apparent forgiveness/remorse. Goodell in particular allowed himself to be conned by the Ravens' hierarchy who supported Rice to the hilt on this.

Meanwhile the Panthers are still gonna play Hardy and the 49ers McDonald.  Incredible. And Goodell is so weakened by this past week that he can't pressure the teams to sit these guys. In this context the Vikings decision to sit Peterson, which is the only logical one, stands out as an act of moral clarity. How f-ed up can things be when Zygi's clowns have taken the high ground on any issue?

@NFLPA: #NFLPA Statement on Appeal of Ray Rice’s Indefinite Suspension: bit.ly/1qWaRcJ

 Ray Rice's greatest weapon against NFL is threat of pretrial discovery and forcing Goodell under oath. Might be reason for NFL to cut deal.

NFL never wants any part of the discovery process or the whole "under oath" deal. Too many skeletons, which is why they cut so many deals.

Bombshell-filled longread by Don Van Natta and colleagues at ESPN Outside The Lines.

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/st...ns-roger-goodell-nfl

Among the disclosures:

John Harbaugh wanted to cut Rice right after the incident and also later that summer but was overruled by owner Steve Bisciotti and Ozzie Newsome;

Raven security knew within days what had happened inside the elevator;

Rice's and Ravens' lawyers basically conspired together to avoid a trial and get Rice into an diversion program, intended to keep the video tapes out of the public eye, avoid jail time, and convince Goodell to go easy on Rice;

After cutting Rice Bisciotti texted Rice expressing his intent to give Rice a future job with the Ravens, after football, counseling younger players;

And lots more. Fairly obvious that Bisciotti was the driver behind most of this and conned/cajoled his good buddy Roger into Rice's initial light punishment.

Curley, Halas, Brown, Rooney, Davis, Hunt, Schram, Wilson, Spanos.

Lot of good men spent a life loving football for a bunch of billionaire's to care about profits.

If you don't get where you came from. You're ****ed.

That's one reason I love the Packers... they respect and embrace their history and it continues to guide them forward.  Not in a rigid, inflexible way, but always striving to honor and protect those ideals.  I wouldn't care about football without that element of this team.  MM and TT get it, while Goodell tries to sell it.
