It's a sad thing to watch. Corner 3s whoever the opposition wants it. Spectating interior players reacting just soon enough to penetrating Gs to allow their man to get a tailor made lob. Play solid defense for 20 seconds only to allow a basket as the shot clock expires... and this with a player on the team who will be on the All-Defensive team at seasons end.

Its obvious that they either:

1) aren't being taught how to play defense

2) aren't capable of executing what they're being taught

3) are unwilling to commit to what they're being taught so that it works

The "fire Kidd" crowd is not going to get their wish. The ownership group is invested in Kidd, they just extended him... they're not going to fire him.

So that leaves the personnel. The Bucks traded for 2 bigs that probably aren't going to change the genesis of the problem- the Bucks Gs.

It's pretty simple what teams are doing- spread the floor and either:

1) beat your man with straight penetration

2) go high p&r to get the G into the paint

At that point the rest of the defense folds like a cheap tent. Either the help comes and your corner 3 is open, or the help doesn't and the penetrator gets an easy look/layup/foul. And even if your defensive rotations are strong and you give them a tough look, the shot goes up and the interior players don't get a body on a body and they give up the offensive rebound.

The NBA game is the above. There's no exotic plays, schemes, or trickery. Everyone plays the same, you see it every night. But until the Bucks have Gs that can stop the penetrating and interior players committed to fundamental rebounding, the movie we're seeing will play on a loop.

Defense and rebounding is about want. Until someone wants to, they're going to keep getting the same result...
