Regarding Geronimo, it's speculated that a key reason for his promotion was that he was about to be plucked from the PS from another team (unknown who). Abby's injury was only supposed to sideline him 2 weeks but losing Allison was apparently too big a risk for MM who's still fuming at losing Callahen.

Also, per Jason Wilde, WR Herb Waters (practice squad)  is changing positions to CB. He's been learning the position prior to the slew of CB injuries.

That's a lot of moves/info to take in for a Monday.

Atlanta is not a particularly good team this year, but they're just good enough to be a big ol' PITA.
IMHO, pass rush will be the key to this game. If we are successful enough to produce some sacks, possibly an INT, or otherwise pressure Matty Ass into mistakes, we have a chance. Their OL is suspect, and they are giving up an average of nearly 3 sacks/game.
Julio is an obvious concern. I don't think he's really 100% healthy and I hope it will help with coverage on long routes. I worry more about 15-20 yard passes between the numbers to him.
Stopping their rush will be a secondary key. Freeman is good, but they are thin after that. Our defense should be able to contain him.
Limiting their time with the ball will be the last key. They are averaging over 30 points/game, so we must slow that way down. If we can control the ball as we did vs the Giants, I like our chances of doing just that.

Boris,  as am I he is the one who has the potential to kill the Packers on Sunday.  And who the heck is going to cover Julio Jones?

My guess is it will be Gunter. We will have to let Mohammed come to us., with various DB's.

More Packers workouts today: DB Kevin Peterson (OK State) DB Jeremiah McKinnon (FIU) DB Keith Baxter (Marshall) RB Brandon Burks (Troy). Baxter was signed to the practice squad. Burks was with the Packers in the preseason.

In Florida, we call people who go home to Wisconsin in summer, "fullbacks"

Those who go up to Tennessee for summer are called "halfbacks"

Try to keep up.

Let's be honest. If you asked 50 casual drunks in a bar who Herb Waters last NFL team was before he was inducted into the HOF half of them would answer Dallas.

Herb Waters is a great name for a corner. Sounds like 1968.

I was thinking the same thing.  Herb.

Perhaps Herb Waters is the adopted son of the gay union between legendary Cowboy defensive backs  Herb Adderley and Charlie Waters?

I'm so sorry.

I've passed the signs for Bong State Recreation area many times and have always wanted to stop but never had my bong with me.

Major Bong, that's a rank I hope to achieve someday, I have to settle for General PITA for now.

Scouting the Falcons

“It will be an interesting, entertaining matchup,” an executive in personnel said Tuesday. “The decisive factor to me is the Packers’ secondary vs. Julio Jones. That secondary is beat up. They don’t have anybody who can match up. (Matt) Ryan will exploit that.”

The personnel man called it for Atlanta, 31-28. Two others also forecast victory for the Falcons, 31-21 and 27-24. A defensive assistant coach for a recent Falcons’ opponent tabbed Atlanta, 31-24.

Though the above exec is talking about stopping Julio being the key, I think this game will come down to the pass rush and making Matty Ice throw on the run. He and Rodgers are polar opposites at the moment. Rodgers is far more effective throwing outside the pocket. Ryan on the other hand sucks throwing  on the run. Creat pressure. Force him out of the pocket. Jones will get his yards. But even in games where JJ has really produced, the Falcons still lost.

He would get tabbed as a dirty player.

We expected Eli to dominate this secondary with OBJ, Cruz, and Shepard, but the front 7 played so well that Eli didn't have a chance. I don't think individually any of the Giants receivers are as good as Julio, but I think the same strategy will have the same effect. As PBoi said, the key is pressuring Matt Ryan, he's useless if he feels uncomfortable and like Eli he's not a threat to run. Pressure him and he will fold.

The key to play against Julio is not trying to stop him or hope to even get good coverage. GB will likely be playing Two Deep Man-Off again with Gunter matched up against Julio, so he's going to catch passes and get some yards. The key is tackling him when he catches the ball. If he gets some running room then you are screwed because he's big, strong, fast and really difficult to bring down.

Atlanta can put up the points. Capers needs to not only slow Julio down, but this is a very fast and versatile Falcon offense. Jones has become one of the leagues best receivers, they have 2 TE's that they use and both can catch, two very good backs in Freeman and Coleman-could be good for us that Coleman is out.  Not to be lost is the fact that Sanu is no slouch as a 2nd WR especially with all the attention given to JJulio. Ryan is playing at a high level too.

As others have said, need to give safety help to Gunter, but also be physical at LOS and not allow free release into the middle. Also have to pressure Ryan, he is way to comfortable this year. We have the horses to pressure him.

Lastly, our highly regarded and extremely well-payed QB needs to put up some points. Need to have some nice long time consuming drives. In all likelihood this will not be a defensive battle. If Atlanta controls our offense it could get ugly. Need to see the offense we saw in the 2nd half of the Tidy Whitey game.
