Lions Week Take 2

Quarless cleared and will be in the pads practice today!

Abby looked good yesterday.  He's making progress.

Monty is still out.

Bulaga and Linsley did all they needed to yesterday.

Green Bay - The following is a summary of Packers coach Mike McCarthy's pre-practice press conference Monday:

• (On Linsley and Bulaga) Both did what asked to do. We'll get into heavier loads. We'll get a better idea. They need to be able to put their foot in the ground and explode.
• (On Linsley starting) We'll see how the week goes.
• (On Abbrederis) He did everything. He's looking good.
• (On Montgomery) He's not making progress. You try to reach different thresholds and he's not getting there.
• (On message to team) There's key things you focus on when you've had success. But just because you've had it doesn't mean it's going to happen again. We've talked about direct communication. I'm direct and honest about things we're doing well. We've looked at every correction. You learn from those experiences and you continue to work. Our players dealing with when lose, you have conversations about what happened the week before. We have that responsibility. Our fans know we're working and we're preparing for Detroit. It's my job to keep them focused.
• (On four straight division games) We knew it would be a challenge. It definitely heightens the challenge. Not a fan of Thursday to Thursday, but both teams are going through it. That's the beauty of the NFL, challenges come in different forms.
• (On Randall) I'll know more today.
• (On Quarless) He will start today.
• (On Rollins) Played well. Very aware. I really like the way he's playing.
• (On Nick Perry) He's been great. Been here putting in the extra time.
• (On Quarless returning) I think the position has a lot to do with it. Him coming back is by design. Wanted him to practice in pads. That will benefit him as much as anybody.
• (On Janis kickoffs) Done a really good job. Definitely looking at him this week.

And that's it for McCarthy.

Sounds like Janis! may have won the kickoff return job. Hard to pull him off the field given what he's done the last two games.

I wonder what Randall's status is.

The New England and Dallas game last year are probably a better indicator. He's playing poorly and much of the fans' overall frustration is being directed his way. Don't quite understand why some are completely writing him off as a lost cause.

Sometimes players flash, defenses adjust and the player can't counter.  Sometimes players tank and don't recover but I don't think that's Adams.

It would be stupid to write him off, he does need to get on the ball tho, and soon.  they need him and are not going anywhere without him.  While we are at it JJ needs to step up too, 3 catches on average a game is not enough.

I think JJ is giving about all he has left.  His case seems to be - surprise some people and make some plays because everyone thought he was too old and slow, defenses adjust and start paying attention to him again which results in lower production.  Then people forget about him and he flashes again until they remember to cover him.  Repeat.

Jones is a 4 playing the 3 and some want him to produce as a 2.

Jones has a lot of value against zone coverages because he has some veteran savvy and can find the openings. He's also good on free plays and the sandlot stuff that happens when Rodgers breaks the pocket. His problem is that even an average NFL nickel back (or even a lot of safeties) can stay with him in man to man.

In 2 out of the last 3 games he has had zero catches, both losses, in the win he had 6.  In the 4 losses he has had 3 catches.  Need more from him and everyone, I'm a tough grader.

Those watching Adams last week were at the game said in many plays he was doing essentially a slow jog through his route and easily got jammed on the line.

Ankle still bothering him? Doesn't like the rain?

Really don't get it.

When he first came back from the injury he didn't look like the same player.  He was rounding off his routes and just wasn't up to speed.  At the time, you could chalk it up to rust, and maybe still being injured.

Watching him on T-Giving, he has got to still be injured.  It's either that, or he completely "forgot" how to be an effective receiver (unlikely), or just lost all his talent for some other reason, like drugs (also unlikely).  

Whatever it is, he should have been benched.  MM all but admitted as much.  Except the only guy who could replace him, Janis, apparently either can't or won't learn the plays.

In the same zip code as Ted Ginn where catching efficiency is concerned.

Just think about that.

@WesHod: The #Packers now listing Jeff Janis as their No. 1 kickoff returner on depth chart, ahead of Abbrederis, Hyde and Montgomery.

One less way for Abbrederis to get hurt.  Montgomery is pretty much out with the high ankle.  Not that he hasn't earned it but he's not exactly beating out a murderer's row.

Hard to believe they trust him to catch the ball and run with it....Or catch the ball and not run with it.  Good thing there are not 3 choices

He could "not catch the ball".
