The Crew's combination of Daniel Snyder, Jerry Jones, Donald Sterling and Rachel Phelps speaks...

"From my standpoint, we had won five games in April and nine games in September. That's not what we're trying to do in Milwaukee. I was receptive to Doug approaching this with me."

Must read from Ken Rosenthal.  SPOT ON.  Pretending we can compete as is will only set us back.  We MUST take the Cubs path and get worse to get better - regardless of a 5-5 "streak"

The KILLER point

So, if you're the Brewers and Reds, do you make yet another futile attempt at trying to compete as you fall further behind your division rivals? Or, do you acknowledge the uncomfortable reality of your position, and embark upon the long road to recovery?

Futile attempts at 84-78 are not going to help, and in fact will set us back farther and farther.

Sell.  Sell now.  And plan for 2018.  It's the only way to move forward here.

I think it's great rheu are "back on track" (losing) so they can stick to "the plan" (rebuild).

The problem is that's not Doug's mentality and Attanasio is concerned about keeping butts in the seats.

If you are going to lose at least do that correctly and don't play just well enough to avoid blowing up the roster.  This team is nowhere near good enough to compete for the division so it's time to tank and start over.   In 2-3 years some of their better prospects in the minors will be ready so try to sync up your moves to match their development

It's worked for Houston and the Cubs aren't far off either

I have no interest in losing, but I'm very interested in how the roster is built for the long term (about 4 years in baseball).  They will not compete this year (they are a .500 team that had a terrible start), so guys in the last year should absolutely be on the market, today.  Not much value there, since those players are not terribly productive and not young, but they should be available.  Same goes with the rest of the roster, minus the giveaway mentality.  The goal should not be to lose games, the goal should be to get younger and cheaper fast, hopefully with the kind of talent that plays out.

The painful truth.

Made even more painful by seeing the hated Cubs and the Buc's rebuild results thus far.

I'm sure it's difficult for a successful guy like Antanasio to decide to scrap and rebuild. Feels like failure I'm sure, but hey, it's become a common process in baseball. He's not going to tolerate low attendance very well, but good news is that Milwaukee fans seem pretty loyal.

If you're smart about it , and don't just give away talent, you can make it happen without getting reamed. Some good young talent added to some good young talent....repeat. Baby steps

I think the fear of losing fans is overstated.  If you go 15 years without seeing the postseason, then yes, you will lose fans.  Rebuild right for 2-3 years down the road and the attendance won't hurt nearly as bad as we are lead to believe.

The reality is that they need to blow the damn thing up

I'm not suggesting they get stupid and just give guys away but they need to start dealing short term assets immediately and if they can get decent offers for some of there other guys they would be fools for not considering it

The problem is Melvin - he has to to

Jim Bowden was talking about trades, insists that the Giants or Pirates need to trade for Aram.  Not sure his no trade clause, but even so, I suspect Aram will end his swan song as a Brewer.  Bowden also thinks Loshe would be attractive to a team like Toronto, which I could see happen.

got me thinking, would you trade Peralta for Bret Lawrie?

You don't even know where you are anymore.

saying Maldy is a better catcher than Luc is about as stupid as they come.  No other way to sugar coat it.  It was a moronic thing to say.  Even more stupid to commit to it.

Let's lay it out there then statboy ....
Bet: If LuCroy, in his prime no less, does not make All-Star game in next 5 yrs, you donate 100 to X4 and never show your snotty sarcasm arse on X4 again.
If LuCroy does make AllStar team, I'll donate 1000 to X4 AND leave my dumb, nostat knowing, stroke-brained arse out of here. I think fair ...
Deal?

Or, you can sober up for awhile and we will talk later.  If you can demonstrate the capacity for an intelligent, coherent thought process, you can come back.

Matt Garza signed a four-year, $50 million contract with the Brewers before last season.  Through eight starts in 2015, he's 2-5 with a 5.72 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman states that Milwaukee seems "especially interested" in trading Garza.  Heyman also writes: "Garza is another veteran right-hander who could help someone, but with $35-million-plus to go through 2017, one rival exec says, 'I'm not sure anyone would want him.'"  The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo believes the Brewers are "ready to sell" on Garza as well.

Considering his contract and Milwaukee's apparent eagerness to part ways, the price for Garza would not be high.  In Garin Cecchini, the Red Sox possess a third-base prospect with nowhere to go behind Pablo Sandoval.  On the other hand, the Brewers have 36-year-old Aramis Ramirez manning the position.  Ramirez will also be a free agent at season's end.

Why, exactly, should the Red Sox have an interest in Garza?  He was fairly decent in 2014, posting a 3.64 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .233 batting average.  Garza is also only 31 years old and has proven he can succeed in the AL East.  With the Tampa Bay Rays itching_standard">from 2008-2010, he went 34-31 with a 3.86 ERA in 94 starts.

I can't see the Red Sox doing this, but I would be on board.  I don't think Garza is as bad as he has been this year, but also don't see his stock going up that much even with better pitching.  The return is not much, but getting out from under that contract would be a bonus.

In order to accelerate the rebuilding process they have to unload salaries; specifically guys like Ramirez and Garza and Lohse.   They may not get much in return but that's OK.   Attanasio has shown a willingness to spend money but none of those three guys are in their long term plans anyway

The way Ryan Braun is hitting right now it would be interesting to see what his trade value is but I think the long term aspect of his deal makes it difficult to deal him

it would be nice if those guys started to really perform and could be turned into some low A type guys with potential, but I suspect when it is all said and done, we will be underwhelmed.

I think Melvin will retire this year, Mark A will hire his own guy, and that guy will sign the best free agent pitcher he can to keep Mark happy.  With Braun, Luc and Gomez, they will sell the fan base on taking the Central in 16/17

MLB trade rumors had a piece today that talked about SD inquiring about Segura and/or other Brewers SS prospects.  Not sure what they could get for Segura but if the price is right he could be dealt

There was also something mentioned about Mike Fiers interest but Milwaukee is not there with him.

i forget the Fiers is 29.  He could get a decent return if Milwaukee is interested.  22nd round pick from Canada.

I hopped over to Mlbtr, I guess if Ryan Howard can drum up interest, then anyone could be traded.
