Figured it'd make sense to do a master thread on these during the season.

Saints cut C.J. Spiller

The Saints have released veteran running back C.J. Spiller, per multiple reports.

Spiller was a healthy scratch for last weekend’s season opener.

After signing a four-year, $16 million deal in free agency in early 2015, Spiller played in 13 games for the Saints last year.

A first-round pick of the Bills in 2010, Spiller, 29, hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown since 2013 but has been a weapon as a pass catcher out of the backfield. He has 12 career rushing touchdowns and eight receiving touchdowns.

He figures to draw immediate interest on the open market. As a vested veteran, he’s not subject to the league’s waivers system.

RGIII career may be done.

Poor Cleveland. Some things never change.

Asking a tough question: Should our front office have calculated in Sam Shields' concussion history during the off-season when determining the team's roster needs for the season?

I'm a big fan of our front office, GM, head coach, and coaching staff.  However, I can't help but think we may have overlooked this one, or at least been over-optimistic regarding the career of Sam Shields.

Recent rumors indicating Shields' career could be in jeopardy raises the question the team could have done more to plan for the possibility he might go down during the season.

We kept 11 DBs on active roster, one on IR, & another is supsended for first 4 games, what else did you want them to do? Shields is not even ruled out for Sunday, but his career may be over?

Good question....I'm not really sure. Perhaps drafting a corner somwhere in the draft may have helped, although we got two good ones last year. I'm not saying doom and gloom here...just posing  topic for discussion.

Division injuries are mounting:

Bears: Cutler out for quite some time, Danny Trevathan (shiny FA) out indefinitely with thumb, Lamar Houston ACL

Loins: Ziggy Ansah, RB Ameer Abdullah

Queens: AP, of course.

Why the capacity to piss away talent and opportunity still surprises me, I'll never know.

Still not ready to pull Colt Lyeria off my fantasy roster, but I am considering not starting him this week.

Peterson to IR

From the article, and I wasn't aware of the rule change on the IR-DTR:
"...Under the new rule, teams do not have to designate which of their IR players are coming back up front."
Puts a new perspective on the guys that went on IR at cut-down(s)...

Everybody goes on IR without designation.

If/when someone can return, then the team can choose to use the DTR if they decide he's worth it (I.E. a playoff run)

When we met with the commish (back in 2012) that was 1 of the things we asked for. A player to return from IR if possible. We also asked for larger rosters. Hope that happens in the future. It almost HAS to if they expand to 18 games

Terrific, game changing player who's career ending may be in sight...

Report: J.J. Watt could miss rest of season with back injury

Football’s top defensive player could be done for the year.

Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt has re-injured his back and is expected to miss significant time, possibly the rest of the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

According to the report, the Texans are still gathering information about the injury, which he apparently suffered Thursday night in New England.

Watt was dealing with a back injury throughout the offseason, and after he underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc, there were some reports over the summer that he might not be able to return in time for the beginning of the regular season. He has played all three games this year, but he hasn’t looked like himself.

Now the Texans may be looking at playing the rest of 2016 without the three-time NFL defensive player of the year. That would be a massive loss to the playoff hopes of the team that is currently leading the AFC South.
