What would you guys think about signing Mario Williams?  I know he had a down year in Miami last year as a 4-3 DE, but understand he had a very good year the year before as a 3-4 OLB with Buffalo.  Appears to me he'd be a Julius Peppers-like signing for us.  He's still relatively young, we'd offer him a chance at a ring, he wouldn't count in the compensatory pick formula, I think would be a better fit for us than Dumervil, and would provide a veteran to rotate in with Matthews and Perry.

Williams had 5 sacks playing OLB for Rex in 2015. He hit double digit sacks 2012-2014 playing DE in Mike Pettine's and then  Jim Schwartz' 4-3 defense.

I don't think Williams is a really comfortable playing as a stand up OLB.

I think Mario had 15 sacks playing DE with Schwartz and his 4-3 in Buffalo in 2014. Schwartz is in Philly now running his 4-3. If they don't want Williams for what's probably bird feed then you should probably stay away.

I hope he makes it. If nothing else just to listen to Wayne and Larry get excited and try to say his name.

Leh-too-lee-gah-sen-oh-ah??

that took me about 3 minutes to decipher.  good lord.

Prediction time. This is the year that Janis! finally gets it. The bigger stronger JJ learns and improves enough to make the team as a 4th-5th WR. He will take Jordys place as our "go" route guy. Pulling DB's off the line and opening up the middle of the field for the others.

Nelsons replacement is already on the team. His name is Janis. The same size and speed and this year he has even bulked up (according to reports). He is good on special teams and has caught "Hail Mary's" in playoff games. Aaron is reported to be developing a stronger repore with him. Jeff is just the kind of player that is due for a breakout year like Donald Driver finally did. He wont be ProBowl but he has the size and speed to make a difference on the outside when Nelsons skills are declining in that area. He is our longball threat just like Nelson used to be, and teams have to respect that.

Being the same size and shape is does mean he's the replacement for Jordy. Year 3 is supposed to be when it finally clicks with receivers and although technically Janis did have his best season as a pro he still only caught 11 passes for 93 yards and 1 TD. 8.4 yards per reception is a terrible stat line for a deep threat. In fact for his career he only has 15 receptions for 188 yards and still just 1 TD. His lone playoff appearance is limited to 7 yards, 145 yards, and 2 TDs, giving him a grand total of 22 receptions for 333 yards and 3 TDs.

Contrast that career to Jordy's second season, arguably his worst season as a pro where he didn't have an exploded knee, where he had 22 receptions for 320 yards and 2 TDs. Janis hasn't been able to get on the field enough to match Jordy's worst season, in his entire career. It's not McCarthy being stubborn or Rodgers not liking him, Janis is a good athlete but he's NOT a good receiver. We've seen bad receivers come and go who have been productive, having 1 productive game where more than half of that production came on 2 luck hail mary passes does not mean anything...Jarrett Boykin had 2 100+ yard games and one of those games was with Scott Tolzien at QB.

Also Driver had 37 receptions for 520 yards and 3 TDs before he finally broke out. He had gotten better every year. Janis is going backward.

Janis has been hanging by a thread based on his epic work on special teams.

By the way. I noticed Green Bay was the worst team in the NFL at kickoff coverage in 2016. They gave up an average of 27 yards per return. This is kind of a big deal for a couple of reasons. 1. GB scores pretty much every time they have the ball and, 2. Their defense isn't exactly all world. So they're scoring alot and then letting the other team start around the 30 on pretty much a regular basis.

Their punt coverage also pretty much sucks too. Bottom 1/3 of the NFL last year giving up almost 10 yards per returned punt. Fortunately this isn't a huge deal becasue Green Bay doesn't make a habit of punting the football very much.

I'm sure Zook figures into all this in a meaningful way. My bigger point is if you are a "special team demon" that contributes nothing anywhere else while your special teams overall aren't even pedestrian..... You should probably expect someone to ask you to drop off your playbook. Assuming you even know where it is is.

Duly noted. The stats are not there. Yet. However, with the addition of our new and improved TE's and our ability to attack the middle of the field opposing defenses will respond. So the best way to negate that is a top end "go" receiver. Other teams have them. And so do we. His name is Janis!

Off Season Predictions are fun and often informative too.

As far as ST's, we were gouged by (what looked like) a 90 yard return I blame that on Zook and it hurt the stats. I also think the blame has to do with persons other than Janis!

He has the skill set, just needs to get the mental part down.   The fact that he hasn't yet is beyond worrisome.

I think he makes the team because his punt coverage play is that good.   He is the new Bush, hopefully you haters have to celebrate him for making a SB saving play as well.

This roster should be good enough that GB should not have to hang on to a guy as a single-option specialty player as a gunner. Other options are available. Either Janis makes it as a WR because he's clearly one of the top five or he's cut. I'd hate to lose a WR in sixth place who could be developed, just for a gunner.

Yep.   A visit from the Turk.  "Coach McCarthy wants to see you.  And bring your playbook. "

Criminal. Jordy has been the Packs best reciever for some time. Great route runner, smart, amazing hands, stretches the field, footwork on the sidelines that is out of this ****ing world, high points the ball with the best, impressive catch radius, on the same page with QB1, great lockeroom guy, etc....aging but will be extremely difficult to replace.

Janis....fast, dumb, draws the ire of AR12, and doesn't seem to locate the ball very well. Might be able to develope and cling to a roster spot, but if he's Jordy's replacement we are ****ed.

Ah, I see other famous NFL comments have weighed in.

Janis is reported to be looking thicker and that portends good things.

Thicker? Isn't that the problem? Too thick to know the playbook?
