I can't see any way they bring back Weeks or Gallardo.  Fiers bounced back nicely this year and Scooter has shown he can handle 2B so they don't need those other two guys chewing up almost 25MM combined.

They can use some of that jack to find a legit 1B and I would strongly consider looking at dealing Braun if they can get something decent in return.  Most of the bullpen remains intact and their starting pitching should be OK

Unless I am misunderstanding his contract the team has an option of picking up his final year at 13MM or they can pay him 600K and cut him loose.

At this point I would cut him loose.  His fastball numbers have been down and he is trending in the wrong direction.  Plus they have Fiers and Nelson developing so it's time to turn the page on Yo

If the figures being thrown about are true, if the trade Yo they will have to pay part of his salary.  It appears the cheaper option is to let him walk. I'm not sure Nelson is ready to be a full time starter. And with Garza often injured they do need starting pitching. Big Willie #1; Loshe #2; Fiers #3;  Garza #4; ????? #5.

"Anyone want to guess who Melvin signs next year that I will hate?"

He needs at least one geriatric on the roster every season.   The Para trade took care of the need for a 4th OF, so that leaves utility IF and 1B.   I'm going with Clint Barmes or Mark Ellis.

I would like to see them blow up the roster and rebuild.  This patching game plan is going to bite us in the ass sooner or later as we can't continue to act like a big market team.  We need elite talent to come up from the farm, we can't afford to buy it.   That hasn't happened since the original crew of Weeks / Braun / Fielder / Hart and it doesn't appear to be happening again anytime soon.    (Lucroy the one exception)

Gomez and Lucroy will never have higher values than they have right now.    Start with those two and if you can get anything for Yo and Aramis, move them as well.   Those two should go in the offseason in case Yo loses even more velocity and Aramis gets hurt.   At the deadline, you could look to move Loshe / Garza if they are playing well.

Long story short, our window with that great group has closed.   Time to turn the page and rebuild instead of patching.

A lot of talk out here about brewers sniffing around about Nationals Adam Laroche.  With Zimmerman not able to throw the ball much anymore they may be moving him to first.  Leaves LaRoche in the wind and rumor is he does like to hunt.  Not a long term solution but could be a proven stop gap.

The Brewers have picked up their half of the Ramirez option.  I can't figure out why all the writers considered this such a no-brainer decision for the Brewers?

He has missed 99 games over the last two years.  He had a .330 OBP last year.  His SLG has dropped from .540 to .461 to .427 over the last three seasons.

He was a -5 defensive runs saved last season but posted a reasonable -0.3 UZR/150.  He is certainly no gold glover but a team can live with that defense if the guy is really producing with the bat.  His baserunning is god-awful.  Needless to say, all of Ramirez' value comes from his bat.

On the positive side, if you take the 30 third basemen with the most at-bats in 2014, Ramirez ranked 15th in OBP, 11th in SLG and 11th in OPS.  I don't think anyone could argue that he's an elite bat but those rankings show that he is still an above average to good bat.

A no-brainer type decision on picking up an option like this makes much more sense for an AL team that could also DH him and possibly keep him healthier throughout the season.

But for the Brewers?  I don't know?  Ramirez could always decline, and if so it sounds like the Brewers are off the hook for the 4 million buyout.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The Weeks move was a no brainer.  Buh bye Bill Hall part II

The Ramirez and Gallardo moves were a little more interesting.   If Ramirez plays like he did this season I think it's a good move but his health is such a question mark and it's a lot of money but they really don't have a lot of other good options.   I am more surprised on Gallardo.  Simply put, he did not pitch well and 12MM+ Is a lot of money for an average starting pitcher.   The good news is they aren't on the hook long term with the guy.   I guess you can do worse than Yo but I was  completely OK with not picking up the option and having Fiers or Nelson take his spot.  That money would be better spent on 1B
Marco wasn't in the mix long term with Nelson and Fiers on the roster and you have to give something to get something.   Lind can hit and as the JSO article stated he can really hit right handed pitching.

I agree they still need another guy or two to platoon the infield positions but this is a step in the right direction

Panda looks to be heading to Boston at around 5/100.   I don't get it.  At all.  I guess you can say 3rd is a premium position, but he's a middling offensive player that hasn't exceeded .780 OPS for the last 3 years.  He's got the body type that when he crashes it's gonna be quick and ugly.  If you're Boston you can overpay for a guy like this knowing the last 1-2 years of the contract you'll regret - but I don't even see him being worth it now.  Good for Panda that he turned 2 nice post seasons into a huge contract, but, he's an average 3B defensively that has gotten progressively worse at the plate the last 3-4 years.  I'm also not convinced he's actually 28, but whatever.

Also sounds like the Red Sox will sign Ramirez as well.  Again, I can understand overpaying for SS, but not sure I see this being a help for them.  Can't stay healthy with 1 season since 2009 that he's played >142 games.  He hasn't produced much offensively since 2009 - save a stretch (granted a really nice stretch) in 2013.  If they are getting the 2013 Ramirez, I love it.  I think that was the outlier and he throws up a 260/350/450 line for the most part.

Must be nice to take risks like this and not worry about being wrong.   Brewers sign Panda and watch him get worse and worse, and they have effectively screwed the franchise for decades.  Boston does and it's "Meh, we'll sign the next shiny free agent!".

I think Panda can be Mo Vaughn at third for them for a couple years, a couple nice stadiums to help his numbers.  Of course there is the fat risk.

Ramirez as an OF should be fun to watch.  I suspect that will not be a clean transition.

This probably means Boston has some third basemen on the trade block (and OF, not that we need any).

Well, with the Cubs signing Lester (and not being done with FA mind you), now we have the next dominant team in our division as well as the Cards.  Epstein is building the Cubs the right way, they now have the best manager in the game, and they have Dodgers like unlimited bucket of money.

Line of sight to the playoffs anytime in the future just got much much harder to envision.

Plus the Cubs re-signed RH Hammels, they sent to Oakland last summer and they also signed All-star Catcher Montero.

They already have 2 All-stars in Rizzo and Castro, 2 young studs that got some PT last year in Baez and Soler and have Russell and Bryant waiting in the wings.

The development of Hiram Burgos and Tyler Thornberg with the continued development of their young guys like Peralta will prevent a team like the Cubs from passing them. Melvin has been awfully quiet, hasn't he?
What would really be cool if they would reconstruct the Milwaukee Braves Experience of a world series championship back in Milwaukee ...
The old timers would like that much more and the newbies don't know and probably don't care who Selig is/was.

The Selig Experience?!

Let me guess.........keep payroll at an absolute minimum......anytime a star player is in the final year of his contract, trade him............big name free agent signings must be 30 year old has beens, ie Marquis Grissom, Kevin Mench, Eric Young,.....con the people of Milwaukee to pay for a new stadium.......Keep Turnin Up The Heat!

Selig experience too funny

Pay down debt on a ****ty team instead of spending money on players, put your inept family members or relatives in charge of the team, pimp former players to make bad personnel decisions, hold the city of Milwaukee hostage for a new stadium, completely **** up and All Star game in your own host town, and let steroids take over the game only to backtrack and look like a complete fool.

That's an experience all right
