According to industry sources, Moncada, 19, has held private workouts for the Brewers, Rangers, Giants, Yankees, Red Sox, and Padres in Florida. The Dodgers, Rays, Cubs, and Phillies are also showing strong interest.

Moncada remains the most celebrated young prospect to leave Cuba since Jorge Soler, who signed with the Cubs in 2012. Moncada debuted for Cienfuegos in Cuba’s Serie Nacional at age 17 and hit .277 during parts of two seasons. He made a name for himself by dominating the 16-and-under and 18-and-under leagues in Cuba.

I think this is a pipe dream, and it would affect future international signings all for a kid that can't order a beer after the game.

I am okay with this move.  I hope he ends up in Milwaukee.  Even though he is on the down-side of his career, his presence on the roster would bring a little notoriety.  And maybe the Brewers could use a guy with a little bit of vinegar in his blood.

But oh...is Doug Melvin a shrewd guy.  He was just on WTMJ and said they really had nothing in the works to acquire anyone at this time.

Old. Expensive.  Closer.  Haven't we learned out lesson?  I'm all for moves to shore up the pen, but with Henderson coming back and Broxton already on the books, unless Philly is paying for it all, I don't like the deal.

But there remains the possibility that the Brewers could add another arm to the mix for that spot. Rodriguez remains on the market as a free agent despite saving 44 games for the Brewers last season, and the door still doesn't appear to be fully closed on a trade for Papelbon.

Melvin wouldn't comment on the state of possible talks with the Phillies, but acknowledged the lines of communication have remained open with "K-Rod."

"I don’t know if it’s active, but we still have conversations," Melvin said. "Mark deals more with that. (Agent) Scott (Boras) keeps calling Mark."
