I don't smoke weed. But let's stop pretending it's going to ruin society.

It won't ruin society, and I know there's a lot of arguments that could be made, but as someone who used to work with addicted teens, there were a couple things that were common to almost every single kid: 1) those who went on to harder drugs almost always started with weed, and 2) the first thing to go for those who used weed was their motivation, and it was a b**** for them to try to get it back. Kids who tell me they use today all say the same thing: "It only makes me mellow and doesn't hurt anything." They're right; but, that "mellowness" eventually saps their drive and for others, that mellowness isn't enough of a high. Those kids who were trying to quit saw weed as a "sneaky" drug because the addiction and the effects just snuck up on them.

If it's legalized, the trick will be how to regulate it and educate about it, just as we've done with alcohol. There will always be those who get addicted.

Do we know that those non motivated slackers would not have been non motivated slackers with or with out weed?  Seems to me that man (in general, not everyone) has always strived for some form of escape, for what reason I do not know.  But every society,  region or tribe that I can think of has had something.  Be it alcohol, khat, cocaine or kava kava we a as a species has managed to come up with someway to catch a buzz.

BYW, I live in the Rocky Mountain State and do not partake.

The problem with EVERY criticism of marijuana......is that alcohol and cigarettes are both worse in every way.  They cause more deaths, have higher addiction rates, and unlike marijuana, cigarettes and alcohol have absolutely zero benefits (other than making you feel good).  I have yet to hear a rationale argument for why both cigarettes and and alcohol are legal, but marijuana is not.  The illegality of marijuana is just irrational.

Now for Gregory, I'm less concerned with him smoking marijuana than him testing positive when he KNOWS exactly when his test will be.  It's not a drug problem, it's an idiot problem.

EDIT:  Full disclosure, I live in Colorado, voted for the legalization and do not partake.

Weed can be a gateway drug, for sure. But let's table that discussion for another thread & a different forum.

I'll put up  a "Weed" forum if you want.

This thread is about the NFL draft & right now the Packers can do pretty much what they want, although I'd like to see a DL, DB or ILB in round 1 if possible. Keep drafting defense. A TE would be a good thing too.

I agree GD.  Most of the mocks I've seen have Kendricks, Benardrick McKinney, Paul Dawson and Stephone Anthony with early to mid second round grades and Denzel Perryman as a late second or third.
I think it is likely that one of these guys will de drafted in the 1st round ahead of the Pack, but the real concern would be that all but Perryman may be gone by the time the Packers pick in the second.

I'd like to see the Packers draft CB Kevin Johnson in the first round and hope that the ILB cupboard isn't bare by the 62'nd pick, or trade their first for an early to mid second rounder (and another pick) and have their pick of the ILB crop.

I would be a little nervous if the Packers waited until the fifth round to fill there ILB needs tho'.

Kevin Johnson and Jalen Collins are likely the second and third cornerbacks off the board and chances are way better than 50/50 that both are gone by #30.

Next two are probably Marcus Peters and P.J. Williams.  I'd say 50/50 chance that Peters will be available and Williams will most likely be available at #30.

Cornerback will be a consideration but if the choices are CB-Marcus Peters, CB-P.J. Williams, ILB-Benardrick McKinney, ILB-Stephone Anthony, DT-Jordan Phillips, DT-Carl Davis...I think Ted will take one of those ILB's or DT's ahead of the available cornerbacks.

I don't think that Ted would spend a first round pick on Marcus Peters, too many red flags.

He was suspended from Washington on multiple occasions for fighting with coaches, missing practices and poor academic performance, (apparently that's still a thing in the PAC10).

He managed to get himself banned from workouts with the team for four weeks prior to last season, and ultimately got kicked off the team for fighting with an assistant coach last year.

This kid has locker room cancer written all over him and will have a devil of a time explaining it to prospective NFL employers.

He also admitted to a failed drug test his freshman year.

Aside from that, he looks like a player.

The biggest headcases are often the most talented players.

Ted loves bolstering the front 7 in round 1 unless there is a significantly more valuable player available.

'14: Safety

'13: DE

'12: OLB

'11: OT

'10: OT

'09: NT

'09: OLB

'08: n/a

'07: DT

'06: OLB

'05: QB

Round 2 and 3 seems to be where he addresses other positional needs, but r1 is where he bolsters depth on the OL or defensive front 7. Unless another valuable player at a position of need drops, I think we are looking at either an NT or an ILB. I have no clue who that top prospect is that would fall though, everyone looks pretty clean. A guy like Bud Dupree going high could push someone like Trae Waynes lower, but that would be surprising. I'm projecting the most likely picks at 30 will be:

1. Miami ILB Denzel Perryman

2. FSU DT Eddie Goldman

3. Virginia OLB Eli Harold

4. Clemson ILB Stephone Anthony

5. MSU OLB Bernardrick McKinney

Lots will change between now and draft day, and there will always be droppers, but as of today I'd name the following 27 players as likely to be off the board when the Packers pick at #30.

QB-Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota

RB-Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon

WR-Amari Cooper, Kevin White, DeVante Parker, Jaelen Strong

OL-Brandon Scherff, Andrus Peat, D.J. Humphries, La'el Collins, Ereck Flowers

DL-Leonard Williams, Arik Armstead, Danny Shelton, Malcom Brown, Eddie Goldman

LB-Dante Fowler Jr., Shane Ray, Vic Beasley, Randy Gregory, Bud Dupree

CB-Trae Waynes, Kevin Johnson, Jalen Collins

S-Landon Collins

The most likely out of that group to make it to #30 would probably be Melvin Gordon.  There is a pretty good chance that only one running back will be picked prior to #30 and I expect Gurley to be drafted ahead of Gordon.  Eddie Goldman hasn't worked out yet, so there is always a chance he tanks it in the workout and that could drop his stock to where he would be in the Packer's reach.  But as of today I'd expect Goldman to be picked ahead of Green Bay's pick.

I currently see the next tier as looking something like this:

WR-Breshad Perriman

TE-Maxx Williams, Clive Walford

OL-T.J. Clemmings, Cameron Erving

DL-Jordan Phillips, Carl Davis, Owamagbe Odighizuwa, Preston Smith, Mario Edwards Jr.

LB-Eli Harold, Benardrick McKinney, Eric Kendricks, Stephone Anthony

CB-Ronald Darby, Marcus Peters, P.J. Williams

This is the group of players that would probably be looked at by teams in the 25-50 area of the draft.  I don't think all of these players would be high on Ted's board (for example, Ronald Darby might not reach Ted's suspected minimum height requirement for DBs), but this is roughly the group he would be picking from.  I'd suspect he's not sold on Perryman (height) and Dawson (athleticism, character) and would guess he wouldn't take them at #30.

All that being said, I'd guess Ted's preferences at #30 are, in this order:

1.  Eric Kendricks/ILB/UCLA

2.  Stephone Anthony/ILB/Clemson

3.  Benardrick McKinney/ILB/Mississippi State

4.  Jordan Phillips/DT/Oklahoma

5.  Carl Davis/DT/Iowa

6.  P.J. Williams/CB/Florida State

Ted has overwhelmingly drafted for need the past few drafts, and ILB and DT top the list.  I list the 3 ILBs first just because I see that as the bigger need at this time (that could change depending on what happens with Raji and Guion).  Kendricks, Anthony, McKinney all passed the test at the combine.  Kendricks is the most ready, plug and play player in the group and I think that gives him the edge over the other two.  IMO McKinney was the better player in college but Anthony had superior workouts and, when it's close, Ted seems to like "athletes" over "players" on defense, so Anthony is #2 and McKinney is #3.  I'd guess Ted prefers Phillips over Davis because Phillips probably has more upside as a pass-rusher, but overall these two guys are pretty close.  I'd prefer to see the Packers avoid Phillips because of his past back problems but I think Ted will like him.  I do think Ted would like P.J. Williams at #30 so I listed him, but with the other need areas I think it's unlikely that Williams would emerge as Ted's top guy at #30.  It's pretty unlikely that both Kendricks and Anthony would be off the board at #30, so as of today I would guess it's Kendricks with Anthony being Ted's plan B player.

I think Perryman's draft slot will surprise people. It's popular to downgrade him because of his 40 time, but his tape is still better than any ILB in the draft. Teams know how fast he can play. He's a late r1/very early r2 player.

McKinney is a height/weight/speed guy, not much else. He's a late round LB in a 1st round LB's body.

Its a non-premium position so teams are reluctant to use a 1st unless he's a Keuchly

And thumpers/run stuffers are devalued in a pass-happy NFL so that hurts some of them like Perryman
