Carried the offense, that's rich. 2 big pass for 70 yds total yards, otherwise an just an okay day (I believe 4 for 50ish) in that game.

Davante had that one bad play, but I saw 3 other really good plays he made. Those don't make the stories because it doesn't fit the narrative that he's on the bubble. He looks healthy and fast and shaking off rust like everyone else. Cobb has had as many bad plays as Davante, as has Janis. Janis ran the exact wrong way on a route and there was no one there for Rodgers pass. Cobb had a bad drop on any easy pass. These are things that happen when you're shaking off the rust during DAY 3 of camp. Give more credit to the D for being active and aggressive, they've been flying around like crazy with a ton of energy.

Oh you mean in shorts, catching balls thrown from a step ladder?

Yup...he lit that part up. Looked very good as you say.

Janis on the other hand...almost single handedly carried our offense, in a playoff game, against the best NFL defense.

It's pretty easy to see whom has upside...and who is now practicing the same way he played with a downward trend to play making.

DB's have figured out DuhVante...and he's got no game to fight it with.

Janis is still all upside...he'll keep getting better at execution and you can't teach his speed and athleticism.

This really isn't that hard...pretty straight forward analysis right now.

Problem is the upside stops a mediocre ST contributor.

"Single handedly carried the offense"

That's my favorite.  Wait, I lied.  "Conspiracy!" is my favorite.

Uhm don't misquote me to change the context please.

"almost single handedly carried our offense"

Plausible deniability is important around here.

One of the best gunners in the NFL is mediocre on special teams?  He might be too mentally challenged to keep up with 12 or the offensive scheme, but he's a lot better on special teams than you're giving him credit for.

Cools your tits Bert Favre fan club.  I meant overall.  Be a good ST player and lets end this "CONSPIRACY!" to take away playing time from Janis the Dumb.

And this snarky response to Janis' ability is in no way support of Duhvante.  That guy will be in his own head until he's out of the league.

Cracks me up when people discount two big pass plays in the NFL as if that is a negative or something.

What, you don't want big pass plays?

All he did was score Touch Downs in that game too...but I suppose we should say...well yeah...but.

It makes no sense.

I don't discount them, but to "carry" or even "almost carry" an offense should include production beyond two Hail Mary passes. If he had totaled 6 catches for 250 yards after going 4 for 180 then I would almost agree with you. He didn't though, he has an average day for a #3 WR and miraculously got behind an elite defense once and even more miraculously out jumped the best CB in the league. Are you saying he's among the best WRs in the league and as such could beat a CB like Patrick Peterson on a regular basis?

Sandlot ball that you're not going to play week in and week out.  Thanks for the fun chuck and grab Janis but the point is the guy can't actually play within the confines of the offense.

BTW, Dervante has middling journeyman stamped all over him now.

Who does Henry remind me of?

Let's see; over sensitive, incapable of having an adult discussion,  prone to fits of rage and mediocre name calling, clings to grudges for an unhealthy amount of time, and posts inane diatribes on the internet...

Sad!

Sad!

I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a list of people that haven't accomplished much and are pretty much dismissable but still manage to spark seriously intense Internet dust ups the way  Jeff Janis does.

So far I have Michael Sam, Kim Jong Un, Tim Tebow, Paris Hilton, Gloria Allred, Adrian Peterson and Blake Griffin. Guy Fieri is on the bubble.

Over sensitive.  I'll just let that hang there with the rest of this post.

Pretty sure you're confusing sensitive and "being adult" with putting you on the hamster wheel.

Team up the ConspiracyGB and have a fat girl not invited to the party rant.

Carry on.

I think some want Janis to be the next feel good story...a small school, late round pick to starting WR. There are 5 WRs ahead of him on the depth chart, all of whom have drawn praise from either the coaching staff, QB, or both. The best thing that's been said of Janis is that he's an excellent special teamer and he's done some good things but is still learning the fundamentals. Players who are actually doing really good things draw praise, things that would earn playing time. I don't understand why it's hard to accept that because maybe it will take a while for things to click with him as a WR and despite his contributions in the playoffs, he's not ready to be a starter. There's more to it than being big and fast.

Janis getting love for his Hail Mary heroics but Dick Rodgers getting crushed for weight.  Without Dick's grab In Detroit Janis almost single handedly beating AZ never happens.

Janis is a taller Steve Tasker. Don Beebe. And that ain't bad.

You are discounting.

And you are actually splitting his stats up to rationalize the discounting by saying his best production doesn't count.

But it did count and so did his TD's and yes his production mostly kept us in the game.

That's what actually happened...it's in the books, and you can't change it based on subjective reasoning after the fact.

How far do you want to take this?

Should we have a special category for "lucky stats" and "lucky games" as deemed by whom?

No, lets just stick to what actually happened on the field and what the actual score is please.

You didn't answer my question, is he one of the best WRs in the league who should be beating one of the best CBs in the league, Patrick Peterson, on a regular basis or is he just an average player who was just in the right place at the right time? It can't be both. Answer it or shut up on this topic.

Christ, this may be one of the stupidest long term discussions in X4 history. He's not special. Get over it. He's not the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th best WR on the team. Point to his one good day all you want, one good day doesn't mean he deserves anything. He deserves to be where he's on the depth chart.

Favre used sand lot ball as his stepping stone to becoming pretty damn good.

"No more rocketballs...ok?"

It would have been a shame to bench him in 93...or were you one of the "Play Ty Detmer" crowd after every interception?

We don't know yet with Janis...but he's shown us the athleticism he has is special. He has a better chance at being special than DuhVante does.

Dat's the bottom line right now. He needs to be coached up to his potential.

DuhVante has to try not to quit again...or he's effectively done as Grave Digger's Golden Boy.

But, it's very possible DuVante prevails and Janis doesn't.

Nobody knows...it's just that Janis has shown the most recent real world talent...by far...and it's a what have you done lately kind of league.

It's not even just about DuhVantes talent anymore...it's will he quit again when the going gets tough?

Or be like Janis and get the job done , make plays, do whatever it takes and be a winner.

Here's the thing.  I would LOVE Janis to succeed.  The point is the guy gets driven off routes when he isn't running the wrong route and gets manhandled at the line.  Could he work his way through it?  Sure but considering what we've seen I would expect a Bradford like development time frame and I don't know how many guys are playing in the NFL and collecting social security at the same time.

Let's lay off the Favre comparisons, you may anger the zealots.

The facts are that Janis did indeed beat one of the best CB's in league, in one of the biggest games of the year.

It seems to drive you crazy for some reason...I'm guessing you have too much emotional baggage involved because it goes against your public opinion here and now it embarrasses you.

Let's just stick to facts Grave Digger or you should argue with somebody else about the delusions in your head that some stats and TD's don't count at your whim.

Same for me. If he turns into a starting caliber WR with his size and speed then that would be awesome. He's not there yet though and until he is, this idea he is somehow our 2nd best WR after Nelson is just clutter on X4.

That one time he "got the job done" whereas we have seen Adams "get the job done" multiple times.

DuhVante had a couple of games when we were able to scheme him free because Jordy and Cobb were having ALL the coverage shaded towards them.

Janis did it by himself with virtually no support in a huge game against world class competition.

C'mon on now lets have some context with your analysis, or it's disingenuous at best or downright sloppy and worthless.

EDIT: Rather than keep the post I already made, I'm deleting it and ending this argument. This will never end because you're a troll and this thread is already way off track. We don't agree on Janis, leave it be.

What? When?

If you are talking about out-leaping PP, that's not beating him. Hell of an athletic play to be sure. Also, likely a once in a lifetime play for Janis. That play does not fit in the idea of stacking success. Fluke.
