Zach Kruse tweeted from OTA's yesterday:

Got a text from someone I trust at #Packers OTA practice.  All it said: "Josh Jones.  Wow."

Sorry, can't cut/paste tweet to work.

heard the same thing on the radio after work yesterday.

you know, the usual disclaimer of it's just shorts and all, but AR said Josh Jones flashed several times so far.  then radio guys talked that Jones seems to have only one speed:  flat out wide open.  and that he labelled Janis at one point so hard that it sounded like a hit when fully padded even tho they weren't.  I kinda chuckled thinking the coaches probably went "hey! hold up, we ain't trying to injure no one out... oh, it's only Janis, nevermind."

Josh Jones deflected 3 passes yesterday and per Mike Clements (105.7 the Fan) was all over the field. One of the passes was a Rodgers dart, and Aaron apparently gave him a long look.

That's a good early sign.

Obviously, until pads go on, it's very hard to judge OTA's.

On another note, apparently Kenny Clark hit the weight room in a BIG way. Dude is quite ripped according to MM. McCarthy sounded really excited about the work Clark put into his frame in the off season.

I know it's early, but as I put in the Jones thread everything I read about him and his attitude and his versatility and his love of film study made me think he could be another C. Wood or Collins....

Early reports also have Frackrell & Monty as much thicker in upper body

I think I'm the only one who is excited about Fackrell...not a good sign for, mind you. The kid is quick and athletic.

Based on the early results we got from Clark and Lowry last year, plus the consistency we always get from Daniels and Guion, plus Jean-Francois's veteran consistency we could have a really good, deep DL this year. We don't really need Adams to be anything more than good depth this year, whatever he contributes beyond giving Clark/Daniels a break will be gravy. Love hearing that Clark is coming back stronger and more in-shape, he has the potential to be an elite DL.

If Fackrell improves at all then we should be pretty good at OLB also. If Elliot gets stronger then we would have good options behind Clay/Perry.

Too much good stuff on Josh Jones. Destined for a season ending injury. Sorry. Had to be said.

1) **** you

2) It's good to hear about Jones physicality but it don't mean squat if he isn't playing technically sound Ootball.  I'm sure he can do it but it's these kind of "wow" statements are clicky bait kind of things.  He's a rookie, he still needs to learn to play at the pro level just like everyone else.  Jeebus knows the Packers need a rookie to provide a big contribution on defense this year.  Let's hope it's him because his role would cover up more than a few sins.

I'm kind of disputing the OLB assertion.  That whole crew comes with a lot of "if" statements.  "If" Clay and Perry stay healthy.  "If" Bi-Eagle is healthy.  "If" Bi-Eagle is more than a Elliot rotation guy.  Don't get me wrong, the rotation guys are needed but there has to be something there that says they can develop into something more.

Completely agree about DL though.  Actually pretty excited about it.

Good, because there were times last year he looked like he was on roller skates. I think he was a bit of a project...played 3 years at UCLA, no redshirt year, came out early...so I think the Packers took him with the thought he might take a year or two to develop into what they want. Sounds like this is the next step in his progression.

Pre knee-injury in college, Fackrell was projected by Kiper as a first rounder. The guy was an absolute beast...and like so many of the Gary Anderson/Matt Wells guys coming out of Utah State from that era, they are all good in terms of understanding the game, playing in the right positions etc. So I think for Fackrell, last year was adjusting to the speed of the NFL, and also still working back from his injury he suffered his junior year...and he also sustained a hammy injury that kept him sidelined too last year.

I've watched a lot of WAC/Mountain West football over the years. Pre-injury, Fackrell was easily in the same conversation as Brian Urlacher as one of the most impressive and dominating LB ever.

I am expecting big things from him if he can stay healthy.

You know I'm right. Anymore good news and the kid gets decapitated in a whorehouse with a needle sticking out of his arm. I hope he chills out a bit and saves those plays for year 3.

We can't have nice things, you know.

You can do that with any position though. On paper you assume all players take the next step each year, but everything is based on ifs. If Clark and Lowry have a sophomore slump and if Guion can't stay off the weed then that DL group will suck. Right now Clay and Perry are healthy, Fackrell is supposedly stronger, and Elliot is in a contract year, that's a pretty good looking group right now. That's not even counting on Beagle, much like Fackrell a year ago, anything extra we get out of him will be gravy because he will be the #5 OLB.

I thought he had a positive impact as a run defender. He didn't have much impact against the pass, but that's not uncommon for NTs. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Sure you can say that about other units but you'd be kidding yourself if you didn't see the OLB position is a house of cards situation.  It wouldn't take much to totally crash that unit.

That's not his fault, Foo. Doesn't mean he sucks.

WR, TE, and S are probably the only positions on the team that could afford to lose 1 guy and not have the whole show collapse. Right now OLB is 4 deep with quality edge players, that's more than some teams have.

Think you forgot QB.

Packers defense has 5 first round picks. 3 second round picks. 3 third round picks. All getting significant snaps in 2017.

For the love of God Dom will you please get your **** together and do some actual ****ing coaching.

I agree with Henry regarding the edge players. I see the same thing...2 quality guys who are injury prone and a bunch of inconsistent question marks after that. I'm hoping Elliott and Fackrell can step up this year but I still wish we could have found a way to sign Connor Barwin in free agency to take most of the snaps vacated by the loss of Peppers and Jones on the outside. I'd feel a lot better about the position if we had a proven vet who was a good rotational/competent starter level player there. I think Barwin is good enough that you could have slid Clay to the inside and had him and Perry on the outside a fair amount of the time. Barwin is only 30 so he was probably looking for a full time starting gig somewhere and maybe it didn't fit with the Pack's situation?? His 1 year deal with the Rams only had a cap hit of $3.5m. I don't know, just my 2 cents worth.

I'm not completely down on what Farkwell, Oy my Bagel and Elliot can bring to the table.  Yet with this defense (coaching) it precludes any surety as to what developing guys will actually contribute.

Agree Henry. I'm not in panic mode or haven't given up on any of the guys you mentioned yet. I just wish we had a vet in the mix who has a proven record of being able to put heat on the QB due to the injury history of Clay and Perry. Knock on wood, but I'd be really surprised if one or both of these guys doesn't miss at least a few starts somewhere during the year.

In a league of parity and a few too many teams, every team is a few injuries from disaster at most positions.  It's why health has become a top 5 or maybe top 3 factor in whether a team has success (for us that means SB).  You simply can't collect quality depth up and down your roster.
