relax folks.  they did the same thing yesterday.  they're working on blocking and coverage and not actual punt returners.  besides, could it be beneficial for a punt returner to know firsthand the blocking schemes he will be running behind and what it looks like?   hang in there, all part of the plan.

Thank you T-dog

And to anybody who freaks out over the wide variety of cross-training that happens in  TC ?

Jesus ****

Gotta be a real tough spot for the kid.  Imagine being him - long shot hometown kid comes out of nowhere as a walk on and has an impressive college career at UW, gets drafted by the team you grew up idolizing. Especially if GB goes the SB this year.  Can you imagine being him and playing in the SB for the Green Bay Packers?  He may not have made the roster anyway but it would be a really hard decision to walk away at that age when you believe you're invincible.

Injury settlement....

And now you all understand why TT drafted some more WR's.

I'm bummed for the kid.

+1.

And that he sustained yet another one in a non-contact practice supports that he's had multiple prior ones. My understanding is as they multiply it becomes easier and easier to get your next one.

I was (and still am) pulling for him, but TT and MM are better men than most, and I'm sure when the time comes they'll make the tough but right call, just like with Nick Collins.

My report/observations for Day 2 of camp (we missed Day 1):

- I always try to see who the first guy on the field is. To me that says a lot about players and their attitude. Last year the first guy on the field was Barrington, every day. He would get out their and do drills on his own. This year the first guy on the field was rookie CB LaDarius Gunter (#36/Miami). He was out there first and started warming up on his own...before specialists, before coaches, and really even before the guys had set up most of the practice equipment. The rest of the guys all come down with their position groups or buddies it seems.

- Here are some guys that stood out to me either for good or bad reasons (some of them are obvious):

  • QB's Matt Blanchard and Brett Hundley - Both looked very inaccurate. Both appear to be works in progress. Blanchard looked to be the better passer of the two though.
  • QB Scott Tolzien - His passes were more accurate and seemed to have a lot more zip on them. More than a couple of the rookie camp bodies couldn't handle the heat he was throwing with. He looked more comfortable also.
  • WR Davante Adams - Nothing really stood out other than he had that veteran swagger. He looked comfortable and in control. Seems to be settling in well.
  • CB Damarious Randall - Looked smaller/leaner than I expected. There's not way he could play Safety in the NFL the way he's built. He's no leaner than Sam Shields or Tramon Williams though.
  • RB Eddie Lacy - Dude looks every bit as big and bulky as previous years, but he seemed to have more burst. Looked really good.
  • CB LaDarius Gunter - Stood out to me although seeing #36 did catch my eye. He's definitely taller than the others, but he didn't look out of place in terms of how he played. He moved well and broke on the ball a couple times just batting it down.
  • S Morgan Burnett - Had a good day with a couple nice INTs. They weren't just floaters that came right to him, he broke on the ball and stole it. Good to see he's starting camp strong.
  • LB Jake Ryan was bigger than I expected. He definitely looks the part...big broad shoulders.
  • WR Jimmie Hunt would have had a really nice acrobatic catch were it not for Damarious Randall breaking up the catch. Good play from both young guys.
  • WR Jeff Janis is a long strider, longer than Jordy. He looked a little bulkier this year.
  • Good to see DL Khyri Thornton out there.
  • Here's the depth chart I saw today (players in bold are locks):

QB: Rodgers, Tolzien, Blanchard, Hundley

RB: Lacy, Starks, Neal, Harris (Crockett out)

FB: Kuhn, Ripkowski

TE: Rodgers, Perillo, Backman, Henry, Spears (Quarless out)

WR: Jordy, Cobb, Adams, Janis, White, Montgomery, Hunt, Pinkard, Coxson, Blue, Collins

LT: Bahktiari, Vujnovich, Kowalski

LG: Sitton, Taylor (Rotheram out)

C: Linsley, Tretter, Gerhart

RG: Lang, Walker, Phillips

RT: Bulaga, Barclay, Ebbele

LOLB: Peppers, Perry, Mulumba, Hubbard (Neal out)

DL: Raji, Daniels, Guion, Boyd, Jones, Thornton, Ringo, Hooks, Pennel Gaston

ROLB: Matthews, Peppers, Elliot, Rasco, Vaughters

ILB: Matthews, Barrington, Ryan, Thomas, Palmer, Bradford, Francis, Dantzler

CB: Shields, Hayward, Hyde (Slot), Randall, Goodson, Gunter, Glover-Wright, Sebetic (Rollins out)

S: Burnett, Dix, Hyde, Richardson, Banjo, Fanor

- Matthews worked only at ILB in some team sessions, and some at only ROLB in some sessions. Peppers shifts to ROLB when Matthews shifts to ILB and Perry comes in at LOLB. Ryan was the first man off the bench when Matthews shifted to ROLB.

- Most all of the backups were cycling in and out with starters and without so it's a little hard to get exactly where everyone fits. It's only Day 2, but this is just what I observed of the depth chart.

- Most of the depth chart was pretty obvious. Our top 25 is set IMO and a lot of the backups. I would estimate there are truly only 10 spots up for grabs (maybe only 9 if Ripkowski looks good): #5 WR, #3 RB, #4 and #5 CB, #6 and #7 DL, #4 and #5 ILB, #3 TE, #7 OLB. Everyone else is competing for Practice Squad spots IMO.

Specialists didn't do anything, but those are all set except for Punter and I think we all know that's pretty much set.

That was the concern I had with JA when he was drafted.  Not everyone has the body type to play in the NFL.  Even if I was able to run a 4.1, I could never play in the NFL.  One hit and my career would be over.

That stress fracture is concerning in itself, but Hayward is proving to be pretty fragile when combined with hamstring issues.  It’s one thing to have a freak incident happen (ie: ACL tear, bicep tear, etc); it’s another when it always seems like something is wrong (ie: Neal, Perry, D Jones).  I really hope he can hold up for 16 games as a starter.

Packers Nation @packersnation

Eddie Lacy simply wasn't going to be stopped from getting a first down!

Wow. Just wow.

And that's a world class D- effort block Dick Rodgers. Get it together man. Cobb is on the edge swapping paint and he cleared his guy out of the play entirely.
