253 and he's proud? WTF...

Well he has lost 14 pounds since he signed with Seahwaks. If Hawks get him to get his weight down & keep it off, it will be disappointing that MM & staff weren't able to do the same.

Disappointing? Pete Carroll says it is ok for him to be fat.

"He looks awesome. He looks great. He's huge. And he's going to keep playing huge. He did a fantastic job. He's done everything we've asked him to do."

Pete Carroll, to 710 ESPN Seattle, on Eddie Lacy

It's all a matter of maturity. If Eddie matures, he'll keep the weight off, take his career seriously, and run well. Some guys just take a longer time to get it together. A far bigger number of guys leave and don't tear up the league than leave and do well -- a testament to TT and the coaches.

I am more disappointed in Eddie than I ever would be with MM and the staff.

The Packers staff could do all that they could with meal plans, workouts, and monitoring everything but if the player isn't motivated to do it they can't be blamed IMHO.

Anyhow if Eddie has lost 14 pounds since joining Seattle that would have put him at a minimum of what 270ish last year?  Just think what kind of player could be if he put in the work to get back down to his draft weight?

PX90 took about 25 lbs off Eddie last March. Came to camp around 234. Ate his way back up to 267 for his FA visit to Seattle last month.

Seattle hasnt done a thing GB didn't do. If Eddie keeps the weight off it won't be because GB failed. It will be because Eddie is figuring out it's really 100% on him to be responsible.

MM going public with the issue was really out of character and may well have been the product of frustration. Eddie's future availability was a question mark and they may well have just determined it was a headache they didn't need. Like Lacy but that's simply a lack of professionalism and you can't hang that on the Packer organization.

It will be interesting to see if he can keep the weight off as I think Brandt said these guys can lose weight to make a weigh-in using diuretics etc.

I was sorry to see Lacy go but as MichiganJoe said it appears TT weighed the headache factor. This is a theme I think we are seeing from last seasons cutting of Sutton.

If GB met with Eddie in March to talk contracts and he rolled in at 265lbs that was probably the moment a potential future together came to an end. I don't think GB ever put an offer in front of him.

I would put good money on something like that happened.  I wouldn't have given him a fat contract (pun intended) if he was going to be fat and the Packers probably know at that position if you are fat you wont last long in the NFL like that.

What Heckler said. I know he'd been laid up with an injury but I can't help but think TT and MM said we're done with this. AND I predict that one of those new backs this season will make that look like the right move.

Ty Montgomery might easily be a 1,200 yard, 18 carries / game, 4.2 yards/carry RB and none of the three rookies needs to make anyone forget about Lacy going to Seattle. They just need to come to GB and learn how to be productive NFL backs.

I think Ty could absolutely be that guy.  Seems like the idea of a WR going to RB scares people but Ty is built more like a RB anyways - dude is 6' 215 lbs, so he's built like a RB.  And his scouting report reads more like a RB too - his strength was when the ball was in his hands near the LOS, not running routes downfield.  And that's exactly what we saw out of him, a guy that didn't catch many passes 15+ yards downfield but was very hard to bring down when he caught the ball within 5-10 yards of the LOS.  If he learns blitz pickup and the finer nuances of playing RB, I don't see why he couldn't be a 1,000 yard back.

His vision is great, he needs to get more opportunities and better situational opportunities to succeed. I think they weren't quite sure what his capabilities were when they switched him to RB mid season, but I think they do now and will get even more comfortable with him after TC an preseason.

I am genuinely sad he's gone.  Call me a homer or whatever but those 3rd and short downs I never worried when he was there he would always pick it up - now I'm not sure but I hope we don't go back to where we can't make a few inches on third down.  And I liked 27 when we went to lambeau to watch a game he came out of practice and was the only guy who stopped to say hi to everyone that counts for something to me

We have Rip for that, and other than the fumble in the Atlanta game he was impressive last year...

My guess is he hits the weight target and continues to struggle with it all year. It's a headache the Packers really don't need.

I have no doubt he will have a productive season, he was having a fine 2016 before he got injured. Which is the problem ultimately, the stress on his body of having 30 extra pounds can cause problems, especially if you're still trying to move like a 230 pounder. Ted didn't want to give him big money with how unreliable his health could potentially be, look at how healthy Mike Neal was after he dropped 30 lbs...he couldn't stay healthy at 290 and was fine at 260. It also spoke to Lacy's character that he wasn't willing to put in the work to be at the weight and shape the team asked of him. Sets a bad example to pay a guy like that big money.

Oh I'm sure he'll rush for about 1,500 yds this season. Guaranteed.  Why?

Because I drafted him very high in fantasy the previous year.

Exactly right. If you are in FFL I say take him because with me I have a history of taking players one year before they go crazy. Oh and as for his weight I think the dark blue has a slimming effect.

I also agree with TDOG lets visit this topic again mid season when Eddie does what he always does and "bulks" up during the year.

I don't think the question has ever been him performing at 260lb. The question has become his ability to do it for a season. That's become a very legitimate question.

I'm a huge Eddie fan. Great young man. But as Andrew Brandt pointed out. Setting weight markers is a dangerous path to go down. He can certainly run the ball. But GB made the right call here.
