Eddie Lacy gets a refresher with Tony Horton before training camp

Eddie Lacy AP

Eddie Lacy has apparently taken seriously his team’s warnings about his weight, because he went back for a refresher course before he reports to training camp.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the Packers running back went back to trainer Tony Horton recently, after working with the P90X founder earlier this offseason.

Lacy went through two months of workouts with Horton to lose some pounds after coach Mike McCarthy said he “cannot play at the weight he was at [last] year.”

The results were immediate, as Lacy came back to the offseason program around 15 pounds lighter than he was before, though McCarthy suggested in May there might still be some work to be done.

“Eddie will be fine,” McCarthy said in May. “I believe he’ll hit the target that we’re all looking for when the lights come on.”

Getting Lacy back into shape is of obvious importance to the Packers, after his numbers dipped precipitously last year. So going through a grueling variety of workouts which include plyometrics, yoga, cardio, basketball and boxing will hopefully have Lacy ready for camp.

They’d like to see him back to his form from his first two seasons (when he topped 1,100 yards both years and had 20 rushing touchdowns), as having an in-shape Lacy and a healthy Jordy Nelson would be quite a boost for an offense which wasn’t awful without them.

The kid has all the motivation he could have in having a great year. Final year of his rookie contract, a real shot at a SB ring, auditioning for not only TT but the rest of the NFL, and he should be running behind a OL with better depth.

To put it simply, don't fu** this up Eddie.

Let's face it, Lacy needs a full time trainer, not just at the team's facilities but at home.  He has the motivation but not the self-discipline.  That's true for many people, but the way to overcome it is to have that constant external presence.

Bob McGinn can straight up go **** himself with a spiked bat for this shallow ****:

"For Lacy, whose family lost almost everything during Hurricane Katrina a decade ago, the prospect of achieving financial security for years to come should be intoxicating. But Lacy marches to a beat of his own, and the Packers can only hope his mind will be right and last year turns out to have been an aberration"

Hey Dickweed. He went to College. He left his family. He worked his ass off at Alabama. He slept on a little ****ing couch when he went "home" to his family trailer. For 4 years.

**** you Bob McGinn. This guy has put more work in and suffered more loss than you'll ever ****ing know.

"Achieving finacial gain should be intoxicating" My God Bob.

Achieving saved life with all family members after a natural disaster with an opportunity to make things better for everyone.

Does Bob go "an NFL personnel director said...."?  Of course he did.

"Several personnel people over the years have made the point that more than a few Alabama players have struggled in the NFL once they leave the ultra-disciplined, cocoon-like environment created by Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.

"They get away from the preacher, you know?" said an NFC personnel director. "It takes that commitment to doing it. Some of those Alabama backs kind of concern you with having the tread worn off the tires"

This is why Miami was a two time Super Bowl winning machine under Nick in 2005 and 2006 and why they continued to flourish after he left.

NOTE. Miami's last playoff game was 2008. Wild Card Game. They lost by 24. Nick never made the postseason.

I did like this from the article

"Another scout blamed the Packers in part for not laying down the law with Lacy much sooner even it meant prolonged benching.

"It's not his fault," the personnel man said. "You set the standards. You've got to handle him like Nick Saban did."

I was really disappointed that the Packers allowed it to get to the point it did last season. I know it is a tough call because even 20-30 pounds overweight, Lacy still has much better feet than Starks.

College athletes will beg, borrow and steal for the opportunity to go from college to making money in the pros. Once they get there, it's up to them.

Motivating a college athlete to stay in shape who is aiming to go pro and a pro athlete that has already gotten his first contract are completely different situations.

Eddie got fat and out of shape in a job where being "in shape" is pretty damn important.  He's certainly talented enough, so I hope last year was a wake up call and he rushes for 3,000 yards this season, but I also would not plan on Eddie being a Packer with his next contract.

Leveon Bell got pinched for 4 games to start the season. Why does that matter to GB? Because many in the Steeler camp felt Lacy would have been the better pick when the 2 players went in the same draft.. While Lacy has had his weight issues, Bell has had repeated stupid with this latest suspension and another suspension in 2014 for weed as well.

Putting aside my personal opinions on the stupidity of suspending players for weed, according to the Pittsburgh Gazette, it is highly unlikely the Steelers will re-sign Bell and will look elsewhere.

IF Lacy keeps his weight in check and IF he returns to his 2013-2014 form, all it takes is one team. I could easily see the Steelers making a run at Lacy if he's back to his rookie form. He's plenty young. He doesn't do stupid shi* off the field. And I don't foresee him asking for astronomical money in a new contract.

It'll be interesting to see how Lacy's season plays out and how teams like the Steelers view him as their potential RB of the future.

There's a good chance Eddie finishes his rookie contract at number 5 all time on the Packers career rushing list. 1,069 yards would do it. 1,123 would put him number 4 all time.

National Champion. Super Bowl Champion. All time rushing leader in Green Bay Packer history. That's pretty strong. And it's no stretch if he wraps his head around the opportunity.

That is the leanest 230 I've seen in a long, long time. I really hope he has the season he is hoping for because it's obvious the dude did serious work.

True, but the guy on the left is even thinner...so Eddie still has a ways to go.

Depends on the angle you see him at. From the front and back he looks slender and in shape, but a side view he looks large. We think it's mostly flak jacket making his belly look bigger, but I personally don't see much difference from last season to now.

You know who looks very noticeably thinner? Richard Rodgers. He's slimmed down a lot IMO. I bet he's lost 20 lbs and really toned up.

The guy on the left (Tony Horton) would end up on a flight for life chopper ride if Mike ran him on a trap draw 2 point attempt.

Not that it would ever happen.
