Ultimately it lands on MM, well, actually TT but it hits MM's desk first as Capers reports to him.

I don't see how Arron Rodgers name gets brought up though.  He is the team leader but I would bet Henry's testicles (I'm young and working on procreating, can't risk it) that he has almost zero input on what goes on with that side of the ball.

I'm guessing Capers was approached and presented himself as unapproachable up until this year.  We have all worked for ****ty managers, after a while you just say **** it and tell the new guy not to bother trying.   So what changed, I'm guessing MM is more involved and Capers is adjusting to they new expectations regarding communication.

You must have a pretty low opinion of McCarthy's leadership abilities. I personally do not think it is even remotely possible he doesn't have a say in every decision on this team. Does he delegate? Sure. Has to. But to tionk of Capers as unapproachable and McCarthy sitting on the other side of the room wishing old Don would let him speak it unthinkable. No coach worth anything, much less one with MM's success would allow this.

I think it's more about personnel. Better personnel, and all it takes sometimes is one guy to set in motion a chain reaction of success. I think Peppers is that guy. He's everywhere, and the depth it creates trickles to every level. I only hope that he doesn't fade. They're really distributing snaps, so I think that he'll be ok.

I probably worded it poorly.  I'm not saying that at all.   I'm saying Dom presented himself as unapproachable to the players, not his boss.

You forgot the wizard pics.

Seriously, all of this is good!  This points to a team and coaches that said "NO!" to the Norv.  MM sticking his nose in, players stepping up along with the Wizard to work together.  That's the biggest thing about football, it's social!  Coach = teacher = social interaction.  Capers is a brilliant tactician, he failed in other areas.  That's just what it is.  You don't have keep shuffling deck chairs.  EVERYONE IS WORKING TOGETHER.  Who is going to be the CJ Wilson that steps up and tickles the ivories this year because it's starting to feel like 2010.

The organization stepped up as a whole and said, "things be gettin' stale" and decided to get hungry again from talent to scheme.

Capers failed in areas just like other segments of the organization.  Let's stop wholesale pardoning everyone, call a spade a spade and enjoy the resurgence.

Am I still leary?  Sure, but I'll get over it.

So you get a power wedgie every once in awhile around here.  I've had hundreds.

Think it certainly happened last season, especially affecting the secondary where time after time after time after time you'd see players blow coverages and then look at each other as if to say WTF were you doing. Of course some if not most of that had to do with having marginally talented Mensas like MD Jennings and Jerron McMillan out there.

Another contributor IMO last season was Rodgers' injury and absence. MM found himself scrambling like crazy to make something happen on the offensive side of the ball and became even more detached from overseeing the entire football enterprise. The defensive staff (and players) didn't step up either to address the communications issues.

This season, especially since Mike took Dom to the woodshed after the playoff loss, I suspect all echelons -- HC, DC, defensive staff, veteran players -- understand or were told it had to be fixed.

The role of the players in this can't be understated, if they don't speak up when they think game prep is wanting then they are failing their coaches. Great to see that this year's tune is different.

What I think this communication issue comes down to is a veteran leader stepping up and trying to right the ship. I think the players got used to Woodson stepping up and getting their backs and once he left there was no one that really took ownership of the team. Tramon and Daniels seem to be stepping up now, but last year I didn't see anyone really take charge. You need a "heart and soul" kind of player like Ray Lewis or Charles Woodson to rally the guys when things get down. It doesn't sound like Peppers is necessarily "one of the guys" but he's a guy everyone respects and it seems like players and coaches listen when he talks. Without that guy there I doubt there was anyone stepping up to figure it out with Capers...not even someone leading by example. The reason I brought up Rodgers name was because he's THE leader of the team. I agree he wouldn't or shouldn't get involved with the defense at all, but as the players representative if his guys are complaining about something then he needs to bring it to McCarthy. All in all I doubt any of that would be necessary because the only time issues like these come up is when we're losing and guys are pissed...when things are going well they look back and talk about it already being solved.

As for Whitt getting scrubs to shine, what about Bush? Have to have something there to work with. Whitt has done a very good job with Shields and Williams.

Winston Moss must be either one hell of an administrator with the non-game duties of coaching, or he has pictures. And the latter makes no sense 'cause this place is littered with pictures of StupidFace.

I think there's some truth to Thompson not putting much stock into the MLB position.  Although, I've read that TT was set to draft Shazier or Mosley this year but ended up with HaHa when they were both drafted ahead of our slot.  So, he obviously knows it's a problem area.

From Rodgers on his radio show today:

Rodgers was asked about a remark made by guard Josh Sitton, who is in his seventh season, that the current offensive line has the potential to be the best pass-blocking group since Sitton started with the Packers in 2008.

"They are playing with a lot of confidence," Rodgers said. "I think they are doing a really good job. They are the smartest group I have been around. And they have enough input in the plan, with run game footwork and techniques and stuff.

Communication again. Just imagine.

Beats the alternative.

I'll say it again: I think MM put Capers and all the D guys on notice that they had better get their butts on the field and actually coach or they would be updating their resumes. I believe MM was a little leery of putting his nose too far into the D room because Capers is so well thought of, and MM didn't want to upset the Wizard. But for the past three years our D has stunk and MM finally couldn't take it any longer, and who knows? perhaps one of the D players (Mathews?) or one of the other coaches said some things to MM. You could complain that MM was slow to step up and I wouldn't disagree, but it's about time someone held Capers accountable for the mess that has been our D.

The D players finally look like they are more comfortable with what's happening on the field and like they have more confidence in their roles. Coaching is teaching which is nothing more than communicating -- getting across an idea so everyone understands it. It finally looks like there's some coaching and communicating going on on the D side of the ball.

I'm enjoying our rejuvenated D play for now, but the proof of  improvement will come against Brees, Brady, Foles, and heck, even Stafford again. If we bottle those guys up, then I'll start thinking about an extended post-season.

Please, no more mentioning of Foles as an upcoming threat. He's hot trash. There are two QBs in the top 20 in total yards that can't seem to crack 60% completion percentage even with the new QB friendly rules. Foles and Hoyer. He has 10 TDs and 7 picks.

Foles sucks.

It would appear that Capers calls a different brand of mayhem when he has two safeties he trusts. I think Capers dials up the madness the more comfortable Ha Ha and Morgan get with each other.

I thought part of the problem was Ted infusing rookies who were to stupid to get the defense, now they are the cog?

Glad to hear Dom's talking to his players (I always advocated he go out there like a pop warner coach and really connect with his boys).  Glad to hear Mike put the pressure on.  Glad to see adjustments to the scheme.  Glad to see a different defense than we saw the last couple years.  Hope to see them pick off Bree's two or three times on Sunday.

To me the biggest difference on the D is the addition of Dix and Peppers and the return of Hayward.   The defense is simply not allowing big plays - or as many big plays-  and they are creating turnovers.  Those three guys have had a major impact.

The part that is shocking to me is they are playing pretty well despite not having one really good ILB or DL.   If we can get above average play from those guys (and Clay can play like Clay) this could be a pretty good D.
