I have a very hard time believing that rumor for a number of reasons. What did the Raiders end up getting, a 4th? So they wanted a 1st, wouldn't take Rodgers, and then settled on a 4th? Why didn't the Raiders just call GB back and say "hey on second thought we will take Rodgers!" before accepting a 4th? It's not like they were flush with QBs. That's not TT's style either...sacrificing the long term solution at the most important position for a short term stopgap need for a position that he had already invested multiple high picks at (Greg Jennings and James Jones were in GB at that point I believe and they had Driver).

Another writer here claims this.

"Oakland had a second chance at Rodgers entering the 2007 season as Packers quarterback Brett Favre was lobbying hard for wide receiver Randy Moss. Green Bay G.M. Ted Thompson, however, wanted a lot in return _ and not just Moss. He also wanted draft picks. Thompson could have been the “couple of calls” referred to by Davis.

The Raiders had the No. 1 overall pick that year and rather than put together a Moss-to-Green Bay package by getting additional picks, trading out of the top spot and dealing for Rodgers, Davis went with Russell."

I don't believe for a second that TT offered Rodgers for Moss.  Given Favre's public complaining, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the Raiders inquired about Rodgers for Moss.  And, if so, I could absolutely imagine TT saying "Moss and your next 3 First Rounders to get Rodgers"  or something ludicrous.

Florio picked up on Favres "I think I can still play" comment and did what he does best. Add his own brand of editorial bull**** that fails historical accuracy.

"That response overlooks the fact that the Packers pushed him for an early decision, possibly because the Packers knew that by pushing Favre for an early decision, Favre would decide to retire — and the Packers could start the Aaron Rodgers era."

This is why I hate Florio so much. It's a made up, **** statement. That fans outside the circle of facts pick up on and wonder why GB forced Brett out of Green Bay. And why Green Bay fans are so resistant to welcoming him back to the fold.

On one hand, maybe Florio really is a dumbass and doesn't understand the details. But he does this for a living. So I choose to think he knows exactly what he's doing, wants to tweak GB, and takes this route.

You go eat a big purple bag of dicks Mike Florio. You smarmy little ****ing hack
