The knee jerk reactions are gonna tear someone's quad.

It was an investigation. Closing/tearing down abandoned structures can result in serious pollution. So there are policies and, yes, permits. That's the job of oversight agencies. There was no significant effect to the environment. If there had been, thomas would have been responsible for mitigation. So the permits were issued post work. Now he knows and so do his contractors. The system worked.

I grew up in Green Bay. I remember rafts of human turds floating down the Fox, the East river running red or green, depending on the color toilet paper Charmin was making and air so sulfurous it could peel paint. That **** had to stop and the only reason it did is because the government forced it. Why should individuals be allowed to play craps with the environment? Because they only affect their neighbors and the people downstream?

He is the land owner, responsible for anything that happens on his property.  When ever I hire a contractor, plumber, electrician etc I always make sure  I know who has to deal with the permits.  I always make sure that  if permits are required they are applied for and when the job is done the permit inspections are completed.  Joe should have done the same.

I have been down this road, Had a furnace installed by a heating company that got a permit. They also installed the humidifier. When the village came to inspect, they said saddle valves were not allowed on the water supply to the humidifier and held me responsible. The permit is still open on my house and that was several years ago. Hence, I never get permits for anything. I corrected the saddle valve issue when we replaced the water heater without a permit.

When we moved to WI in 04 I finished the basement myself. Framed it, dry walled it, had an electrician help me wire it and install a sub panel. Plumbed a bathroom. Didn't pull one permit. 1,200 sq ft of pristine man cave.

When it came time to sell I had more grief than I knew what to do with. Inspector refused to come out. Had to do all kinds of BS extra work. Stuff like covering wiring that was run to code in storage room I didn't dry wall. InSpector told me I could use cardboard to cover it but it had to be covered before he'd sign off on the electrical. Cardboard?!?!? Took a month and 10 trips to the city office. Didn't end up doing anything serious because the actual work was clean. Building inspector showed up and said "walls are probably out of square". Pissed him off when he couldn't find one. ****er.

The lesson. You can't beat city hall. Not pulling those permits up front was a bad move.

Grafton WI started talking about back taxes over 1,200 sq ft of unaccessed property value and all I could think of was telling them I finished it 3 weeks before we sold. Fortunately things never went down that road.

Basements are rare In CA. This truly sucks. I miss my sanctuary. Basements are one of life's greatest gifts. Making a Bloody Mary and strolling down to the cave on Sunday am for the early games was as good as it gets.

ah...BK...Before Kids....Bloody Sunday Mary's....mmmmmm.....

There was a place out here in San Diego in Ocean Beach.  My first Sports Bar with Packer Fans.  The NFC North owed the smaller room in the back.  A lot of fun ripping the Lions, Vikings, and Bear fans.  The place was called First Round Draft and it made the best Bloody' Mary's ever....they actually sold their own mix on the side.   Then, as Direct TV became more entrenched in residential areas with their Sunday ticket in the late 90's, the place sold out to someone else who couldn't make a decent Bloody Mary.

You need a tree house with a dish.

I had a huge covered front porch with seating for 8 with a flat screen mounted outside. So I was good inside and out. I had options. I HAD OPTIONS!!!! I have a cookie cutter floor plan with no options in CA. I miss WI.

Tonight is the 1 year anniversary of packing the family up and heading West. Rough day. I lived exactly 100 miles from Lambeau.

But enough of my puss fest. Tampa is up next. Much bigger issues at hand.
