I think I'd like to keep the corners we have for the depth.  We've already seen injuries to two corners though they may only be short-term injuries.  We would have to get something real good in return to trade away a talented corner IMO.

When you consider "you can't keep them all", it makes some sense to take a look at the options. Would it change anybody's mind if we could turn a quality defensive back into a quality middle linebacker?

Sorry, but that would be retarded.

CBs are much harder to find & develop and you wouldn't trade one just to provide a nominal upgrade at a non-premium position.

Satan Big Trees nails it again.

I'll keep our CB's unless someone wants to give us an upgrade at LT (Joe Thomas) or another high end WR like Calvin Johnson or AJ Green.

Maybe Larry Fitzgerald? or a quality TE?

Brad Jones is not a cornerback. I'd like to report this post to the owner of the board.

I wouldn't refer to the concept as retarded, but to each their own.  When you consider GB will most likely lose Williams or House next season it might make some sense to get some value out of one of them now.  While I agree a MLB isn't as hard to find as a CB, the fact is GB's current MLB's are sub-standard as a whole... and that's being generous.

Of course, it would suck if GB traded a CB now and then sustained a season ending injury at the position... so I get that.

It's a good thing to be loaded at DB when there are 10-12 teams desperate for corners in a pass happy league. Hang on to all of them. Find an ILB or two in the draft. Preferably early. Draft and develop. Rinse. Repeat.

Fair enough,  let's go with less than ideal.  And here's why

Unless you are getting a top 10 ILB ( and you aren't) its really not much of an upgrade over the guys currently here. And a new guy won't know the defense for a month or so,  so even if he is an ascending talent that some team feloniously trades away; he'll be a special teams/role player for most of 2014. And we already have that in Lattimore/Barrington

Why would anybody trade a starting- caliber corner for that small of an upgrade ?

McGinn is simply taking shots at a front office that doesn't do it his way - he'd rather Ted was more like Schneider and give up 3 picks to rent a WR for a few games.

GB will "fix" the ILB spot in 2015, just like they did for the OLB spot in 2014

And who knows, maybe Ted grabs a Peppers-like ILB to bolster the crew. It wasn't the top priority and the draft didn't fall their way at ILB, so we'll just have to wait for next season

But its likely that the only viable improvement at ILB for 2014... must come from within

The defense is starting to form a bit of an identity. I wouldn't screw with it at this point.

Get Datone back after the bye. Smoke and mirror your way around Hawk and DT as best you can. There's enough talent on this D to be competitive in the playoffs. Who knows, they could be surprisingly good by January.

There is a good chance Tramon goes elsewhere after the season but I'd rather have him in GB for the next three months than anywhere else in exchange for a conditional 4th round pick.

If Thompson has proven anything over his career it's his ability to find good defensive backs in the draft.   Look at the guys he drafted in Seattle and GB.

As for LBs?  Not so much.  Maybe it's because he was one and is too close to the situation.

If someone offered  a decent ILB for a House or Hayward or Tramon or Hyde I don't know how you could pass that up.  They can't all play at the same time but they HAVE to play Hawk or Jones it seems.

I like this post, the thing that intrigues me is that they are now starting to play lattimore and barrington, wonder if the writing is on the wall for hawk - they would have to change the natural positions but a playmaker is a playmaker...

I'd guess TT would have taken Shazier or Mosley over Ha Ha if given the choice of the three. I gotta say, though, I'm kind of glad the draft played out the way it has so far. We got the best of those three players.

He needs to be resigned. He's playing very very well right now. I think he easily has three more starting caliber years in him. And, if House or Hayward passes him up, he'd still be a hell of a nickle back.

Bad Bob's entire premise is that they need to get value for them now before they lose them in FA and only end up receiving a comp pick in return. This is a loser's mentality

He brought up Jennings situation as a prior example. Yeah, you need to always be thinking long term and trying to keep the roster competitive...but you don't weaken a current club that is a contender just for the sake of trying to help build for the future.

It's a passing league and will continue to be with all the rule changes/catering to the passing attacks in the league....why mess up what is probably one of, if not the deepest DB group in the league?

I believe that trading a CB to a team (not in our division) with a high pick available to us would be a good idea. It would give TT some flexibility in moving around in next years draft to find a possible gem instead of using one of our own picks on one. It does two things. One it gives us mobility in the draft and two it is cheaper than a FA at that position. I also believe that it fits TT's mindset of D&D better. Remember, Woodson and J. Jones still had a lot left in the tank and were still let go. A favorable trade at this point is better than a comp. pick later.

Not a chance.  Capers finally trusts the defensive backfield enough that he can call the kind of game he likes.  Hoard those players as long as you can.  They will have to find another way to improve the inside linebackers, but don't mess with what they have finally developed back there.

No team is giving up a high pick for Williams, Hyde or House.

There you go. If he's willing to give up picks for Flynn and Schaub, there's no telling what he'd give up for House. Maybe Khalil Mack.

Reading Bob over the years. Two things jump out at you. Bob wanted to be a GM. And Bob would have been most fans dream GM. He would have been a reckless trade making, roster shaking, free agent signing wild man. He's all over the map with suggestions.

Theres a reason he writes about NFL scouts instead of dealing with them.

Are there any teams (1) with a top 15 ILB who (2) have a real need at CB, (3) enough depth to replace their starting ILB, and (4) a chance to get to the playoffs so that it would be worth it to trade for someone who will be a UFAS next year?  If so, I hope the trade is made. If not, it's just fantasy football talk.
