Nothing more or nothing less than a run-of-mill signing that every team in the major leagues does numerous times very year.

I will note that Melvin has caught lightening in a bottle a few times with these moves. Now that lightening has often crashed and burned but there has been some very nice seasons squeezed out of these type of signings. See Casey McG, Axman, and T-Blow. Doug Davis from the old Melvin days.

Anyone defending Melvin for not addressing first base after the trainwreck in 2013 should have their head examined. Yuni and A Gon at first was the best he could offer after the Hart debacle. Had he went after the kid from Cuba a little harder and not screwed the pooch on the deal, the Brewers make the playoffs hands down. Second season in a row with one of the worst OPS at one of your most important offensive positions.
