What if Pete asked Russ to hand the ball to Marshawn? What if Matt Ryan had a better grasp of things like field position and play clocks? What if Bostick stayed on the sideline?

Here's a heartbreaker: if Charles Woodson and Clay Matthews don't miss tackles on Jonathan Stewart, Nick Collins doesn't injure his neck tackling him and we probably win a SB in 2011. Collins was the missing piece from that D that had to start Morgan Burnett, who was in his 2nd year after barely playing his first year, and Charlie Peprah at Safety. If Collins is there I doubt Hakeem Nicks blows up against us and I doubt we lose to the 49ers or Patriots the way Rodgers was playing.

I think the SEA NFC-CG loss is the worst for a Packers team, in my lifetime.

If Craig Newsome (who by many accounts looked to be even better in 1997 than he was in 1996) doesn't blow out his knee on the first play of the regular season, the Packers are much better equipped to handle the Broncos in the Super Bowl. More importantly, he was a guy that could have maybe slowed Randy Moss enough not to have the Packers effectively mortgage their future at other positions by going 1-2-3 with CBs in the 1999 draft in an attempt to blunt Moss' impact.
There are a lot of parallels between losing Newsome and losing Collins.
Yeah Newsome was a gem. Star of that upset of the Niners in San Fran that made a statement about this team.

Actually, I think the Favre OT interception game vs. the Giants was almost as bad.
The Seahawks loss was mainly due to players not executing game plans. Bostick was coached to block a guy to let Jordy catch the ball - he didn't. AJ Hawk played the fake FG like a middle school football player. Burnett is told to fall down on a return by Peppers and does so with at least 20 more yards in front of him. Clinton-Dix somehow mistimes his jump on a 2 point conversion. In all those cases, guys were put in positions to make plays and screwed up.
The Eagles game was lost by Sherman not going for it on 4th and 1 with the best running game in football and a superstar RB. I guess you could also argue that if Favre would have bothered to try to be in top shape that he would have picked up the first down on the 3rd down scramble that comes up a yard short.
Thanks for allowing me to relive some of my worst sporting memories again. Maybe can watch the Owens catch against the Packers in 1998 along with the Jerry Rice non-fumble just to really complete the experience. Or Gabe Wilkins' matador effort in Super Bowl 32.

Teams usually win playoffs game based on which QB plays better against the opposing defense. Favre used to lose game for Green Bay because of meltdowns in the playoffs. Rodgers has lost some playoff games where' he's put up epic numbers but our defense has been so bad that it didn't matter (2009 Arizona game, 2016 Arizona game are the best examples).
The Packers' defense has been beaten in the playoffs during the Patriots run by Matt Ryan, Kapernik (twice), Russell Wilson, Eli Manning (twice), Michael Vick, Carson Palmer, McNabb, Dante Culpepper, and Kurt Warner (twice). Warner is good, but there are no other guaranteed HOFers on that list depending on how you evaluate regular season-Eli vs. post-season-Eli.
If they had played in the AFC during the last 15 years the Packers would have had to get by probably two games a year against a combination of Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and Peyton Manning. Does anyone on this board think our defensive staffs headed by Donatell, Dom, or Bob Sanders would have been any better off with three first ballot HOF QBs (and 2 of the top 5 all time) staring at them every year?
Dominate, absolutely dominate your opponent for the first 55 minutes of a game and then lose. The why and how hardly matters. The outcome was career/life defining considering that start.
Yeah, the meltdown in 2014 will forever remain a blight.

Falcon game wasn't remotely close to 2014 IMO. That Lombardi was damn near in the vault at 1265.

The kick to the nuts losses stay with you far longer than the wins do. The losses feel so much worse than the wins feel good.

I turned the channel when it went to OT. It was pretty obvious where than runaway dumpster fire on rails was headed.
Look, we kicked Seattles .... for 55 minutes, I loved it. I was as heartbroken about the last 5 minutes as anyone was.

I was looking forward to today. Then this thread happened. I'm replaying Hawk getting nothing done on the fake figgy in my mind. Q's dropped ball on 3rd and 4. Green Bay has 5 first round draft picks starting on defense under loving guidance of Dom Capers. Why does Dom have to suck so bad?

It's actually become a thing with GB and other teams to some extent. Where one team runs the score up in the first half only to find themselves in a nail biter at the 2 min warning.

Makes me feel better knowing Dom would've been up against Brady in the Super Bowl.
The 2014 D was more than good enough to hold Brady to fewer points than the O could score. They already did it once that season vs. NE. Yeah, but Belichick, Brady, Super Bowl. Still would have put my money on GB.
Capers didn't tell Hawk to blow his assignment on the fake FG, tell Burnett to take a dive at the 30 or Bostick to stick his oven mits in the onside kick. There are plenty other reasons and occasions to blame Capers for a failed D but the 2014 NFCCG isn't one of them. They weren't simply lucky for the first 55:00.
