Rick Wakeman On Yes' Rock Hall Nomination
"It seems that anything to do with prog rock was considered a dirty word by them, and it's almost like an era of music, despite the fact it's proven to be the most inventive and the most influential music to musicians that there's ever been in the history of rock 'n' roll, and yet it's ignored. I'm not sure whether I'd turn up. I'm so disgusted with the way that prog rock and Yes have been treated I might be busy. I might be washing my hair that night."

Nothing wrong with White, he's a fantastic drummer, but I'll take Bruford every time. His creativity and odd-metered playing ability is off the hook. He can play time signatures such as 7/4, 5/8, 9/8, 11/16, 15/16, etc., etc. and make them sound so smooth that people know something is different but it isn't offensive to our natural 4/4 tendencies. Sometimes he'll do things like weave the odd time signature patterns around a steady 4/4 bass drum beat to keep a natural dance feel to the music while all of this other crazy stuff is going on over the top of it.

Playing different meters and patterns against each other between your feet and hands is incredibly hard to do. Not many people have the ability to create that independent focus and separate their brain to hear the parts both independently and as one composition. Bruford is also a heck of a writer/composer. His album, "One of a Kind" is incredible and I still listen to it all of the time. Love all of his playing with Yes and King Crimson.

Lol Fedya! You can't fight the primal allure of that straight 4/4 beat! Just ask everyone who thought disco was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Straight 4's on the bass drum, 2 and 4 on the snare drum, and 16th notes on the hi-hat. The, "bozo" beat as I called it. Used to drive me crazy and bore me to death. I'm always up for a good 3/4 waltz or polka though. I love playing in any time signature that's a multiple of 3! It's something you rarely think about but it's amazing how many of the most popular X-Mas songs are written in 3/4 or 6/8 time.
