If Giannis plays his whole career here, he really only needs to win one title to be considered a success. Even he doesn't win a title, he would own the town for the rest of his life in a way that only maybe Robin Yount approached (and Yount, while great, wasn't a transcendant player like Giannis).

If he goes to LA or Golden State, he's just one of a half dozen or so great players that will win titles there. I think LeBron's one title in Cleveland probably means more than the 2 in Miami plus whatever he wins in LA.

In the modern era, Kobe, Duncan, and Jordan/Pippen should be what guys aspire to be. Start with a team, do all the hard work, and win it where you started.

There might not be a better story in sports right now than Giannis. A guy who had to share shoes with his brother less than a decade ago to be able to play basketball has become the top basketball player in the world. And he's seemed to do it without being bitter about how he had to live until he was 14 years old and appears (at least on the outside) to treat everyone around him with respect. It's almost like he can't be real. Things like driving to 90 miles to Oshkosh on his off day to watch his brother play a G league game and going to talk to the kid who mops the floor in the tunnel while he was there.

Watching Giannis reminds me: on his way out of the Herd arena last night he saw a 19-year-old who mops the court in the tunnel. Giannis asks the kid how old he is, he tells him, and Giannis goes: “When I was about your age, 16 or 17, I was mopping too.” Then they took a selfie.
