For a big city like Austin, that does seem ridiculous.

I live in the middle of nowhere at the end of a dead-end street and we lost power for 46 hours in Hurricane Irene back in 2011. We got a lot of wind from Sandy in 2012, but the lights only winked once, which shocked me.
