And here we go again

ESPN is just feeding the speculation w/Giannis yet again because of comments he made about wanting to play with his brothers- “in Milwaukee, in LA, whatever”

How long before someone floats the idea of a team giving a max contract to Giannis and offering at least mid-level exceptions to one (or two) of the brothers?

If you are team that is under the luxury tax this year, your MLE is roughly 4 years and 40 million.

Let's say you are the Knicks. You approach Giannis' agent and tell him that if Giannis forces a trade to you (so he can sign the supermax) you'll sign his brothers to contracts over their market value. Giannis gets 5 years and 250 million and the two brothers each get 5 years and 50 million.

The Bucks are already paying Thanasis to be a human victory cigar. He's not out of place in the NBA, but he's never going to be a rotation player for a good team.

I think Giannis' comment was just an innocent one, but if I'm one of the teams trying to get him out of Milwaukee, I take note of it and start looking into Thanasis and Kostas' contract situations. Giannis at 5/250 is still a bargain.

I saw somewhere this week (I can't find the link at lunch right now) that Giannis' approximate open market value (no salary cap or luxury tax) is somewhere approaching 100 million a year. 5/350 for all three brothers even if two of them just ride the plane to game with Giannis is still a value.
