@DocBenni posted:I happened to be driving a lot today and listened to multiple sports shows talk about NIL. (name, image, likeness for those living under a rock). I personally do not have a problem with athletes wanting more $. College sports, football in particular, are huge money generators. My biggest problem with the situation is how it got to this point in the first place. Why does getting a scholarship to attend a college/university have anything to do with sports? It feels like the plot line to a movie where a guy gets a job just because he can play on the plant softball team.
I played D3 soccer so maybe I'm jaded because I didn't get a dime, team meals, private tutors, etc. I played because I loved competing. I understand/hope that the money generated from college athletics improves the institution's ability to advance learning, but I wonder.
See this LSU library vs. football locker room article.
