I'm been aware of Cousins since he was in high school. To give you some perspective on his world view, he went to Holland (MI) Christian High School. This is the same high school that produced Betsy DeVos, Erik Prince, Pete Hoekstra, and Bill Huizenga (the latter two are tea party types that have served as US House members). Holland Christian High School has less than 2% of students that are black or Hispanic. It sits in the middle of the same area where the public high school has 54% of its students that are black or Hispanic. Going to MSU must have been a real eye-opener for Cousins, especially with what's gone on there under D'Antonio.
Because of that, his world view is ultra-evangelical, right-wing, somewhat apocalyptic in nature. It's part of the reason many of them don't wear masks - they think if they die young it's just part of God's plan (and wealthy people are much less likely to die). What's left unsaid is that they believe when poor people die from this it's also part of God's plan. I think it's nuts, but as long as he wears a mask and is respectful to other people with different views (which he appears to be), he has the right to believe whatever he wants.
