What the hell are you talking about? The Packers completed the trade AFTER THE Raiders drafted Key. Gutekunst is a lot less clueless than you.

It’s very likely Burks was targeted by GB specifically based on his ability to cover backs and TEs. That’s his strength.

Hes probably going to look like a newborn deer trying to play the run early on.

But the first time he decleats someone on a 7 yard underneath route in the short middle on 3rd and 7 or turns and runs stride for stride with a TE up the seam this pick will look like it made perfect sense to GB fans that haven’t seen anything like it in a very long time.

It’s pretty much impossible to pinpoint a specific moment in time when GB decided they really needed a sub package ILB that understood coverage responsibilities on passing downs.

But I’d like to give it a shot.....

This is likely the moment GB decided it was probably time to cut ties with Dom Capers as well.

As a person, Burks is kind of the anti-Key.

Maybe Gute did trade up with the intentions of getting Key but then felt a bit 'dirty' about it.

Haven't been able to pay too much attention to the draft as my to-do list is way too long...

But I just heard on the D.C. area sports broadcast I listen to that Oren Burks is a proud graduate of South County High School in Fairfax Station, Virginia, which is less than 3 miles from my house. All my kids went to Catholic schools in the area and I follow SCHS sports only sporadically. But for all I know Burks grew up in my development or very close by.

He's within a couple of years of my two youngest kids, each of whom played many competitive school and league sports growing up, and they're pretty plugged into a lot of the kids in this area, so when I get a chance I'll ask them if they've got any insights to share.

Just another reminder that time flies. When we moved out to this area 30 years ago it was rolling countryside and woods, no schools nearby, etc., etc. The area has grown like topsy because of the huge population growth and job market in Northern Virginia. I remember going to more than a few Fairfax County Supervisor, school board and land use meetings to discuss the building and construction of this high school. It's a great school now, with a dynamite athletic program which has already produced more than its share of distinguished scholars and pro athletes. Extremely good teachers in general ()!

But I digress. This young man sounds like an outstanding person from a wonderful family. I'd be rooting for him anyhow as a Packer and a man. But now he's a neighborhood kid too!

This will only add to the the legion of Packer fans in this area, I am sure. There are a zillion Green Bay fans out here.

Greatest team in the league with fans and admirers everywhere, but most posters here already know and acknowledge that.

Great job, Gute!

Looks like Burks may have dodged a bullet...

I am still not convinced Burks would have beaten Bolton or Summers out for the starting role by pre-season's end but nonetheless, that's certainly good news for the Packers.

It's probably a matter of how much pain Burks is able to play through. But I am still thinking Bolton is likely the starter anyway.

How would we know?  I think I've seen him play maybe a handful of snaps.  There's still practically zero clue as to what he can actually do on the field.

I’m not sure the Summers hype matches his play.
