Exactly, win and it's not an issue. One thing I keep going back to, Murphy seems like he has potential to micro-manage, but hard to argue with several of his previous moves. Pat Fitzgerald was a home run in turning Northwestern around, and so far it's looking like Gutekunst is a good move. That said, if they keep losing Murphy feels the heat.

Silverstein is trying to be McGinn in laying down click-bait. He's had a few rough go's lately.... first he states that the Packers are up against the cap after signing FA a few weeks ago - proven to be inaccurate information(did he ever apologize ??) . Pretty serious error for a seasoned Packer beat writer. Then he says Mike Daniels doesn't fit and might be traded. Has Mike Daniels ever fit (too short, undersized) except that he is a play-maker and key component to the Defensive line rotation. He's in a contract year and trading him would really steal valuable depth and stability. Then Silverstone pulls out the rehashed Packer structure concerns - with un-named sources. Could it be another jilted lover ? (for some reason I picture Elliot Wolf or Alonzo Highsmith, etc....when i read this shit).

Just win.

I for one don't care what the presser looked like or what was said what I care about is wins on the field.

What I care about is is MLFs message is well received (and by the accounts I have read it was) and the team takes this as a breath of fresh air after the MM era.

This. Who gives a flying **** what the press conference looked like. I also don’t give a **** about what has worked or hasn’t worked in the past. And I certainly don’t care what Silverstein or any other reporter says. What makes them any more an expert on the subject than someone on this site stating their opinion?

That's like comparing kiwis to bananas.

Because that’s likely the “source”. Guys who are trying to become GMs will always talk shit about this structure because they want to seem like it’s terrible. Is it? Who knows. It seems to have worked for some times and not for others, but then again having a GM be in charge of everything has succeeded and failed just as often. If the team is winning it doesn’t matter what his structure is.

It was not that long ago when most everyone here was rightfully roasting the purple pukes and their triangle of authority but suddenly it's brilliant when Murphy does it? Just because it's not what you wanted to hear/read doesn't mean he was wrong.

It's not the structure that wins, it's the men behind it. If Russ Ball does a good job with the budget(he has a proven track record) , Gutekunst stocks the cupboard with talent(things are looking up), and LeFluer is not only a master play-caller , but proves he can direct the ship - it doesn't matter what the structure is.

Overly simplistic, but if you win the structure is fine, lose and its pointed to as the reason for the losses.

Win.

Agree with this. I wasn't nuts about the structure change because I think it leaves too many grey areas from an accountability perspective. However the right mix of managers and  good lines of communications will supersede the structure. Questions still to be answered.

Think the change in structure will likely be more of a long-term issue than a short term one. Murphy assuming the role of meddling owner may initially work but over the long haul strikes me as nothing but potential problems.

Then again he was completely hands off with football ops until this point with a traditional GM/HC structure and this is where we ended up. There are specific things I'm unhappy that Murphy has done, but overall I'm happy with his choice of GM and I'm optimistic about his choice of HC. From this point on his role should be to sit back and let his people do their job, I've not seen anything to this point to make me think he will meddle.

I don’t think anyone here is saying Murphy is brilliant when he does anything. I think what rational people are saying is let this thing play out and let’s see what happens. Too many negative Magic Eight Balls on here.

I love all your comments. Funny and smart. I suspect you are followers of The Coach Clarahanson Show!!!  ...you certainly echo the sentiments of Coach’s wisdom. He has been calling for Murphy’s (and by default McCarthy’s, Thompson’s, Capers’) head since the 2014 debacle in Seattle. Apparently Silverstein follows Coach, as he plagiarized most of Coach’s description of Murphy’s power triangle. Czech it out...  www.coachch.weebly.com

Except he's directly meddling with the men being hired.  There is ZERO good things about a coach not fully having control of his staff or GM of his hires.

I'm trying to figure out why a guy that was completely asleep at the switch is suddenly the most qualified guy to be making those kinds of decisions.

Many here bitched about McCarthy not taking action on his staff soon enough, so it's not like a HC having full control is a guarantee he's going to get it right. To me the issue isn't Murphy having the ability to meddle, it's HOW MUCH is he going to meddle. Is he going to be Jerry Jones or more like Art/Dan Rooney? This structure was a direct result of a lack of accountability under the previous structure, no one was checking their subordinates it seems from President to HC. Hopefully the Board is keeping a closer eye on Murphy as well.

You may be right. It could all blow up in his face. Too much "he said-she said"  and "sources with connections..." for me. I'm willing to wait and see before joining pitchfork nation. Let the results speak.

Gotta call BS on this. Yes, the triangle was mocked but it was the pieces that drew most of the mocking. If Coach Kick Ass was part of our triangle it would (and should) be mocked mercilessly. I feel better about our triangle this year compared to 2018 even though 1/3 of it is completely unknown.

My main concern is the guy at the top. If I had more confidence there I wouldn't care if there was a triangle or a tree under him.

I donno, IF the plan was to have more communication then I am for the restructuring of the FO. If it was a power grab then I am against it. The lowball offer to a prospective ST coach seems to indicate the latter. But perhaps when things settle down and there really is improvement in the communication then it will work out ok. The next few seasons will indicate which of the two it really is. At least we are not the fiasco of the Giants FO.

What purpose does an article like this serve?  I hate stuff like this.  Far too long and filled with more "he said, she said" anonymity quotes whispered in some dark corridors, utility closets or backroom bar booth.   The Packers were trending down long before MM made the organizational switch.  Maybe he should have made it sooner?   Last year's debacle was more about McCarthy's implosion which had been a long time coming.  So before I read anymore baloney like this, I want to see some results...bad or good.

No clue.  That's why I didn't bother to read it.
