I think that’s a pretty decent move for the Clippers.  Bledsoe is a good compliment to Reggie Jackson and he joins an already strong defensive lineup.

Beverly and Rondo are older and certainly will degrade more over time.

Most recent new contracts.

Embiid gets an extension for 4 years and 196 million. He's obviously a great player, but he's only been healthy enough to play in 260 games in 7 years. The Sixers need to figure out the Ben Simmons situation in the next month. I don't see how they can bring him back and you can't piss away a year given that Embiid's feet and back are a ticking time bomb.

Marcus Smart gets 4 years and 77 million. I guess they had to do it, but I'm not sure you can win a title with him. He's a slightly better version of Eric Bledsoe.

Philly is a mess and honestly I don’t see their situation improving much for this upcoming year.

Embiid is a paradox not unlike Karl Anthony Towns.   Both guys are amazing bigs but neither guy has that killer instinct and quite honestly they don’t do the little things to get better.  Making matters worse, Embiid (like AD) is just not reliable from a health standpoint.

The Sixers may be better off dealing Embiid as there is no chance that they get even close to equal value back for Simmons in return.  The Dame for Simmons rumors are laughable BTW.

What’s most likely is Simmons returning but he’s burned so many bridges at this point that team may implode.

Some highlights of the 2021-22 schedule were released today.

The Bucks host the Nets to open the NBA season on October 22nd. They'll also host the Celtics on Christmas Day.

I'll guarantee there will be massive overreactions to whatever the result of the opening game is (5 months before the playoffs are scheduled to start and 6.5 months before the NBA Finals would open).

KAT is a terrible defensive player. Embiid is elite on that end.

Both the Sixers and the Blazers are stuck. The Blazers can't trade Lillard for Simmons without setting their fanbase on fire. I don't care how good Simmons is on defense.

The Sixers will want Lillard for Simmons. If that happens, they are a legit title contender. Lillard's defensive liabilities are hidden by Embiid and others.

The Blazers will want Simmons for McCollum. If that happens, they vault towards the top of the West. Simmons doesn't need to score there with Lillard on board.

There aren't a lot of other options due to the salaries involved. Neither team can really afford to stay status quo.

I guess you could get a third team involved, but nothing happens unless Lillard announces he wants out.

Good thread for this

Back in '89 I flew from Austin to a conference in Chicago. An engineer fresh out of college was in our group. Really highly recruited, top 1% of his class - smart guy. Anywho, he'd never been out of Texas his whole life... as we made our approach to O'Hare and looped out over the big pond, he commented, "I didn't know Chicaco was on the coast".

Any scenario where the Brewers were in the World Series would be pretty cool.  The White Sox would be fun because Tony LaRussa would probably lose his mind playing at Am Fam field and the “distracting” light boards lol.  Plus he’s due to say several stupid things along the way.

How great would a Brewers White Sox World series be?  Both coasts sports writers would melt down.

But they would get to visit Milwaukee in October. They were apoplectic about having to travel to Milwaukee in July for the NBA Finals.

With Rondo the Lakers 2021-22 roster now has 10 guys that are likely to get playoff minutes (age at the time of the 2022 NBA Finals next June)

Lebron (37), Carmelo (37), M. Gasol (37), Ariza (37), Howard (36), Rondo (36), Ellington (34), Westbrook (33), Bazemore (32), AD (29).

6 of those guys were on one of the All-NBA teams in 2012 or 2013 (LeBron, Carmelo, Howard, Westbrook, M. Gasol, and Rondo).

So now you have guys like Beal and Kyrie and Wiggins that may end up having to sit and/or lose money because they don’t have want to get the shot?

People thinking Brooklyn has any shot at a title this year need to get drug tested.  The ongoing drama with that team will never help them get over.  Maybe Durant should demand a trade?  Bucks perhaps?

Well, our government may ignore the actual science that doesn’t follow their narrative, but I for one applaud Jonathan Isaac’s willingness to make his own damned decision. There is plenty of actual science to support his view- and that should protect him from any perception that he somehow is endangering lives with his decision. He’s not. The science is clear on that. He’s free to make his choice, and so should everyone else.

As long as he’s getting his information and “research” from medical experts like Joe Rogan, well, hey, it’s like his choice, man.

I just don’t want to hear one goddamn word from these fools if they get COVID19 and come back later to say “if I’d only known” blah blah blah.  You do know.  We’ve been living with this for 18 months (at least).

At least LeBron got enlightened.  Or he just didn’t want to take a financial hit.   Oh I’ll go with the latter.

Yeah, Joe Rogan is a problem. I mean, if there really has been a treatment that could have been prescribed the whole time that actually works (one that won a Nobel price for medicine), the folks who suppressed that information in order to get the emergency authorization for the vaccine would have an awful lot of explaining to do.

The recent release of the Israeli study is problematic of course, considering Isaac’s case. Again, one source (the government) is saying you must get vaccinated or you’ll not only be at risk yourself but could kill everyone you love, and the other groups of medical experts are saying that the natural immunity created by healthy people  who have had the disease is sufficient against the D-variant, and that vaccination alone is not fighting off that D-variant, Isaac’s case that he’s had the virus and does not feel it is necessary to take the vaccine would be justified. And those same government folks would have a lot of explaining to do.

And of course there’s also the exposure of how the prescription of Remdesivir during the early stages of the outbreak, endorsed by the medical experts in the Federal Government at the time, was actually killing people is also problematic. Because if the hysteria about death rates that accompanied that time period was being caused by the prescription of the drug the “experts” were endorsing, and not the disease itself, those same people would again have some ‘splainin to do, wouldn’t they?

Trust the science, right? These aren’t crackpots. They’re just not going along with the medical “experts” in the government, who clearly has an agenda… and now that more actual truth is being revealed, it’s making a lot of those government “experts” look awfully incompetent.

Natural immunity created by healthy people who have had C19.   You mean like my 16 year old daughter that’s developed post COVID asthma as a result of her so called “immunity?”  But hey, she didn’t die so it’s all good, right?

You also do realize that 1/3 of all adults in this country have high blood pressure or diabetes or heart disease or are obese and 1/4 of all adults have several of those conditions?  We are a nation of unhealthy people.  That’s why people need to take this shit seriously.   It hits those so much harder who already have underlying conditions - which is a large % of the population.

For the millionth time, the vaccine was never intended to protect you from getting C19. It was meant to protect you from ending up in the hospital or the morgue. To that extent, it’s highly safe and effective.

The arrogance and stupidity of people in this country is mind boggling.   Go ahead and roll the dice and trust a bunch of internet or social media doctors.  I’ll be listening to those that actually know WTF they are talking about.

There’s definitely arrogance and stupidity in this country.

Ben Simmons probably fits that description as well.   What a mess that situation has been and now it appears things are getting worse.

With all of the distractions and chemistry issues going on in Philly and Brooklyn I think the Bucks are in great shape coming into this next season.

Good call by NJ. You can't let this guy string this shit out without some kind of stance by the team. They even said they respect his decision which is obviously a lie but something you throw in there to look like you care about his personal decision.

Brooklyn deserves what they get with Irving.  They knew how flaky and mercurial he was prior to joining the Nets.  Yes, he’s incredibly talented.  But he’s a total head case and a chemistry killer.

Now he’s got the Nets in a box.  If they try to deal him they might get 35 cents on the dollar back in return.

I hope the obvious Ben Simmons-Kyrie Irving trade doesn't happen. That trade would make both teams better. It's not like Irving can make the Sixers team chemistry worse than having Ben Simmons get unmercifully booed by the Philly crowds.

What a dipshit.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/...ve-covid-19-vaccine/

"It's reality that, you know, in order to be in New York City, in order to be on a team, I have to be vaccinated," Irving said. "I chose to be unvaccinated, and that was my choice. And I would ask y'all just to respect that choice, and I am gonna just continue to stay in shape, be ready to play, be ready to rock out with my teammates, and just be part of this whole thing."

But while Irving does not appear open to receiving the vaccine himself at this time, he is supportive of those who have and clarified that his decision is "not about being anti-vax." Furthermore, he is not planning on retiring over the issue.

"And no I'm not retiring and no I'm not leaving this game like this," Irving said. "There's still so much more work to do and there's still so many other youngins to inspire. Because I know they want to be better than me. And I can't wait to play against all y'all on this stage."

Irving also claimed at one point that he was promised he would receive an exemption from the vaccine, and thought he would be able to play this season.

"And I don't want to sit here and play on people's emotions, either," Irving said. "Just use logic. You know, what would you do? You know, if you felt uncomfortable going into the season, when you were promised that you would have exemptions or that you didn't have to be forced to get the vaccine. You know, this wasn't an issue before the season started. This wasn't something that I foresaw coming in where I prepared for it and I had a chance to strategize on what was going to be best for me and my family. I came into the season thinking that I was just gonna be able to play ball, you know, be able to use my talent to continue to inspire, influence people in the right way."

Further details on what sort of exemption Irving was expecting are not clear. Earlier in the offseason, Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins applied for a religious exemption, but was denied by the league and later went on to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
