Can we finally admit that this is an elite team?

Rusty ·
On one hand, I can appreciate that everyone wants to stay humble and minimuze the pain they might feel if the Packers struggle in the post-season. Trust me, I was like that extremely early in the season.   On the other hand, this fan base (myself...

Don Compers somehow able to out strategize the immortal Lombardi-esque Belichick and to hold the up and coming Minneapolis Zimmers to under 25 points. He held the Peterson-less Vikings to under 25! Wowza!!! Happy days are here again! In all honesty, I gotta hand it to the Dominator, he did a fantastic job today. And yes, BB is still a better coach than MM. Until MM gets to that 5th SB, that'll be the case. 1 down, 4 to go.

It's easy to knock Dom and his scheme, etc. But his defense this year has only given up more than 24 points twice this year. And only more than 21 two other times. Seattle just flat out beat them. But the Saints don't score 44 if Rodgers doesn't tweak the hammy.

I think the D has turned the corner. Its no coincidence it happened in the season that MM gets more involved and in particular when we start addressing ILB. So to answer your question, yes. This is an Elite team with a legit shot at Lombardi Trophy.

I'm referring to your suggestion that NO wouldn't have scored 44 if Rodgers didn't get hurt, which I agree with. That would suggest that he's really the no. 1 factor of this team succeeding or failing.

Yes, it is an elite team. But that's not over-optimism or crowing, it's the bar they need to live up to. They are elite and need to keep playing like that until they are holding the Lombardi trophy at the end of the season.

Of course he is. It's just that the people who try to paint AR as some sort of mark against the guy are ****ing morons. It took balls of Sheetrock to draft AR and balls to develop him and move on to him. They developed the best player in football.

Elite organizations do things like have a developed AR ready to take over for the previous guy when he's too old.

Doesn't take a jeenyous to figure out AR is the #1 factor in the team succeeding or not. But that wasn't the point of my comment. It was merely to point out that while the D has given up yards this year (near bottom of league), they've not given up to points to match....for a variety of reasons.

The Queens take our retreads. The Bores overpay for a head case turd. Detoilet overpays a mediocre guy. GB locks in at QB, fills in with young athletes and coaches the bejesus out of them. They're elite from top to bottom.

Points given up is the main stat, besides wins and losses. Yards surrendered mean zilch if you come up with a W, so I guess we agree. Yes, this is an elite team, and is probably the prohibitive favorite to win the SB right now, along with the team they just beat today, to answer the original question.

The Packers are one of the elite franchises in professional sports, only a complete idiot could think otherwise. Really, you'd have to be pretty damn clueless and/or biased to not already know this.

Believe it or not, the 2012 defense was actually better from a statistical standpoint, but this 2014 unit is clearly more talented.

I'll say this about NE. Then they get filed until February. I wonder what they're history looks like if Charles Woodson gets the game winning strip/fumble in 2001 that he caused. Gruden took a CA team to a Foxborough snowstorm against Billy and won. Does Gruden stay? Does Bledsoe start 2002?

1 play that changed history? The Packers (coaches and players) downplayed the Win last night in the post game interviews. Brady was visibly upset during the game and was not happy with the loss after the game. Brady knew they were playing the best in the league and they couldn't get it done. Yes, the Packers are elite.

Green Bay has been considered a finesse team under McCarthy mostly due to the offense, and that seems fair. Yesterday that was a smash mouth physical defense. Barrington with two physical stops on the Pats 1st drive. Other than two Gronk receptions, the DBs tackled well, not a lot of YAC. Very nice to see.

I'm not knocking his scheme, I question his ability to read talent and prepare that talent to execute that scheme and that extends to that stiff Winston Moss. I cannot say enough for MM's involvement...

It is also really nice to see this team without a bunch of starters on IR. TT, MM and DC all look better when they can execute their game plans with the proper players. This team has been elite for the past 20 years. Two poor seasons during that span? Not many teams can claim that.

"As far as the customary post-game handshake between coaches, New England’s Bill Belichick usually goes with the less-is-more approach, especially after close losses like Sunday’s 26-21 defeat at the hands of the Packers. That’s why it was so significant that at Lambeau Field, Belichick and McCarthy embraced, and then Belichick spent several seconds talking to McCarthy, with a few headshakes mixed it for emphasis. Translation: ‘That’s a damn fine football team you have that was hell to...

Barrington has looked lost most of the time this year, yesterday was the first time he's looked closer to Desmond Bishop than AJ Hawk. That's why he's been on the bench and it's why CM had to be taken off the line. Really I think the only reason he played yesterday was due to Perry's injury and Clay playing on the line more. Barrington had a strong performance though, he's going to get a shot to repeat that success next week. We will be playing a team with a very physical RB (Jackson) and...

MM has to relish these moments when he goes up against a coach like Belichick. I thought one of MM's greatest games was that 2010 meeting. Nobody gave that team a chance and they were double digit underodgs heading in, and he out-schemed Belichick's defense with a backup QB. They came up short but I thought MM had that team about as well prepared as could be. Came right down to the last play, with Flynn just unable to get rid of the ball in time before he got hit He did the same thing last...
