First option, obviously, in AR.  If he's healthy, he plays.  I don't care what the OL looks like.  He's a football player, he'll want to play and he should play.  It's not like he'd be coming back with a sore knee/elbow that could get re-injured through stress, etc.  Once the bone heals, it's healed.

To your point, yesterday's game was huge.  The loss effectively takes them out of any chances for a playoff bid, barring massive folds by several teams (unlikely).  So therefore, I'd go with Tolzien until AR is ready.  Let him get some reps, real game action, time to read defenses and work on his game.  The Packers will need a decent bckup next year and beyond.  Tolzien might be the answer, but I don't want to wait for another AR injury to find out.

Your QB assessment is right on the money H5. If it were possible to combine Tolzien's arm with Flynn's knowledge of the offense, we'd have one hell of a backup QB on our hands (hell that may be an accurate description of Rodgers). I'd almost lean towards bringing them both into camp next year and see if each player can improve on their current deficiencies...unless there's a really good QB sitting at one of our picks, say round 3 or later.

The problem is probably everything. Insightful, right?

On defense, they haven't replaced great players like Collins, Woodson and Jenkins. Pickett is probably getting too old and Raji might not be as good as originally advertised. The only playmaker on D right now is Matthews. Tramon Williams is not a #1 CB. And either the secondary is too dumb to play Capers' scheme or the scheme is just too damn complicated, because every week there are several blown zone coverages.

On offense, the line needs an upgrade at Center and Tackle, and losing Jennings to free agency, Cobb and Finley to injury really hurt. The line is mostly TT's fault, but you also have to wonder about coaching, since Giacomini, who looked terrible on the packers, is the starting RT on the NFC's best team now. Allen Barbre is also a starter somewhere, too, I think. Obviously, injuries to Bulaga, Tretter and Sherrod, who is back now but is probably still technically a rookie in terms of development, killed them. Marshall Newhouse is terrible and when he's in the game, like yesterday, it's a feeding frenzy for opposing defenses. Re-signing Flynn was the best move they could have made to replace Rodgers, but without time to throw, not even #12 will be able to make plays. Not having a decent backup until Rodgers went down put them at a serious and automatic disadvantage because while Tolzien looks promising down the road, you can't expect a rookie signed to the practice squad one week prior to be able to do much on any team. Flynn might have been able to win a game or two during the disasterous Wallace/Tolzien experiment.

Special Teams, which MM puts a "strong emphasis" on has always sucked under Slocum. It's got to be the coaching, but lacking a good returner right now also hurts.

Sobering...

The Packers are dead in the water unless a fading run defense turns around. For the third time in four games, Green Bay gave up 200 or more on the ground. Overall, Detroit’s 241 yards rushing were the most allowed by the Packers since 1997. Is there an easy fix? Green Bay is being bullied at the line of scrimmage, and the linebackers simply aren’t good enoughβ€”especially insideβ€”to consistently shed blocks and fill gaps. This is an execution and effort problem in the front seven.

– Five straight quarterbacks have finished with a passer rating over 90.0 against the Packers defense. Stafford even threw two picks and still finished at 98.5, which speaks to the amount of big plays he otherwise found against a secondary that looks more and more lost every week.

I think they knew they were in deep at backup QB as soon as training camp started.  The question now is has Tolzien shown enough that they don't draft another QB higher than they'd like to next year.  Is it Tolzien and an UFA in 2014?  That still seems uncertain at best to me.

I concur with Flynn's signing, and am willing to ride that horse 'til it's dead.

In the end, your point above is spot on. It won't matter much who starts at QB other than ARod; we'll see teams using the same defensive strategies, and it won't change until the Pack can overcome that.

That's highly unlikely in the case of either Flynn or Tolzien with the OL playing the way they are. It's even uncertain, at best, when ARod does return, that they will suddenly improve to the point where Lacy can get a handoff without multiple defenders waiting for him 3 yards behind the LOS, and Rodgers has the time to throw, much less deep downfield passes.

Rodgers at least is able to put the team on the best play for what the defense is showing.  There's a ton of instances where only he and a receiver give the wink nod and make the easy play based on what the defense is showing.

I think next year it's worth finding a bruising TE and a fullback to make it easier to ride Lacy when they need to.

People can tell me over and over again how smart Kuhn is and how well he knows the offense, but  I really fault the offensive coaching staff for not developing a real third down back to replace the old slow guy.  They've had years now.

I'm not one for bitching about play calls, but that third and twenty draw to Kuhn was as embarrassingly bad as it gets.  He has no chance in hell of getting that yardage.  How he's on the field for that play is mind boggling.

Kuhn's also not a hammer in the blocking scheme.  Neither are any of the TEs on the roster.  Lacy has been a block or two away from huge plays I don't know how many times this season.  Would be nice if they find some guys that can give him that opportunity and that's not asking for the moon.

I think Lacy is talented enough that he should impact some of the personnel decisions.  Just as a QB needs soiid WRs this kid could really benefit from some first rate run blockers.   Lacy is good enough to ride if you get enough in front of him.  Right now we don't have that.

Good points about Lacy. His 4.0 average doesn't look overly impressive, but the truth is, he's not getting much help. Sitton's the only real road grader on the line and Kuhn is hardly a punishing lead blocker. The tight ends aren't doing much in the running game either. I totally agree that Ted needs to make finding a tight end and a fullback who can run block top priorities in the offseason.
