2014 Base Defense

I think teh thing I'm most excited about is that on any given play we will have some combination of Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, Nick Perry, or Datone Jones rushing off the edges with Mike Daniels and/or Mike Neal rushing from the interior. That group combined for 36 sacks in 2013 with a ton of injuries. If they all stay healthy it could be a really exciting group!

If MariRaji can get his biscuit eating ass motivated for a contract....teh sky is teh limit on the stats in the gutter he can put up.

What I like about Peppers is he's like A.J. Hawk--always available, a history of health.

Does Julius use the hyperbaric chamber too?

It might be that the Neal experiment has them thinking they can prolong Peppers' career. I also think they may be putting Hyde in the Charles Woodson hybrid mode. Have Micah sit all season and watch Woodson videos until he thinks he's Woody himself...

I see Raji staying put at NT... **** that DE position.  It's not his game.

 

I also see Peppers in the elephant position they've been talking about or at DE mainly...kind of like JJ Watt. 

One thing is certain- they are completely overhauling the front. Raji back to NT; jones and Worthy at DE; a 4 man rotation at OLB in Peppers, Perry, Matthews, and Neal; Neal and Peppers on the line on passing downs and in the Psycho; it's going to be interesting.

And what I suspect is that Capers is going to remind people why he had long been regarded a preeminent defensive mind. If it works, it's time for #5...

The more I think about it, the more I think the team will often do the 2-4-5 and with Peppers/Clay off the edges and 3 corners, I think it tempers pass defense deficiencies at S.

 

Also causes me to hope the Packers prioritize ILB more than S in the draft.

Don't forget Mike Daniels & Josh Boyd. Pickett is still out there & may be re-signed too.

 

Jolly is also a possibility if he is cleared medically.

I don't see Peppers at OLBer, DE is where he'll be. 

Where is the "Peppers will be an OLB" coming from?

Somebody posted earlier that Mike Florio said Peppers would "undoubtedly" be an OLB in GB.

Heres the thing I love about Peppers....not only can he rush the QB....He tips passes, drops in coverage and forces fumbles as well. 

 

59 Career passes defensed...that is more than a lot of DB's do in career.   9 Interceptions....39 forced fumbles.

 

 

 

 

Yeah, I always forget about Daniels. He's good- not sure about Boyd... They have done depth. I do not think Pickett will be back.

Big Grease definitely isn't going to be back next year. Even though he's long in the tooth, he was always one of my favorites. Sad to see him go.
