IIRC, lots of teams have many soon to be FA's on their teams. Also, CAP space is limited for quite a few teams as well, with not many having lots of CAP room. Add in last year, cept for a few big contracts, many FA's were dissapointed in what they were being offered.

I expect it to be the same this year with a plethora of guys hitting the market and not a whole lot of money (cept in a few cases) to sign them with. So yea, I think it will be a buyers market. Of course there will be a few big contracts, but IMHO contracts offered are not going to be close to what the majority of FA's are going to be hoping for.

I think that helps TT, as the Pack is one of the few teams with plenty of CAP room to sign our own guys and maybe a reasonably priced FA or 2 who wants to go to GB.

Spikes got put on IR (during the playoffs) for being late to another meeting.  He's not injured, and he was the starting ILB, and Belicheck put him on IR for not complying with team rules.  I don't think TT will take a look at him, for this reason alone.

Interesting story about other teams cap problems. It explains some of the Lions and 49er's cap problems. It looks as thought the 9er's will lose some veterians this year. THe story just hints at the problems the 9er's will have if their QB wants to be paid this year.  He is schedual to get 1.6 million but under the new CBA his contract can be renegoatated.

Another story

I don't see how Anquan Boldin is a 9er next year. With out him I think the Packers beat SF twice this past season.

Over the Cap has adjusted there number a bit. According to them the Packers have about 28 million in space, if Raji voids his contract add 2 million.

The interesting thing is Both Seattle and SF number have been creeping down. A lot of teams have to do a lot of work to get under the cap.

No it is still a voidable contract.

VOIDABLE YEAR

A voidable is a year that drops off of the contract or is cancelled upon the occurrence of some pre-determined criteria.

The pre-determined criteria has not happen yet, until then  it is still a contract. The way it looks come March it will be voided , but to be technically correct the contract is still calculated into the Packer cap numbers. A ticky tacky point but if you read reports on the Packer cap situation you probably need to add 2 million to the space because of the current status of Raji's contract.

Contract details?

The voidable 2014 year didn't need to be acted on. It automatically voided 5 days after the Packers season ended. He will be an UFA in March unless he agrees to a new deal with the Packers before then, during the period where a team can negotiate with their own UFA's before the open market.

Great link Satori, thanks for posting it.  Scrolling down the contracts, the first name that jumps out at me is Brad Jones.  Often injured and has not been a reliable impact player.  When you have players like Rodgers and Matthews on such large contracts, Jones is the exact type of player you keep around on his rookie contract, or close to vet minimum.  IMO Ted made a mistake here, would rather let him go, save 2 million against the cap and role with Lattimore or Francios.

And it just happened. I'm still in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp in regards to Ted as a big spender this year, but that now makes five Safeties on the market that would be an absolute upgrade across from Burnett.

Umm yeah.

NFL comment on reports of $130 mil cap: "The cap is not set yet. The final numbers are being calculated."

The cap $$ was $128mm in 2009, and now 5 years later it might be $130mm? What the owners did to the NFLPA on the new CBA is similar to a Spaniard working over a chicken.

Indeed, and DeMaurice collected a big fat paycheck while engineering a really schitty deal for his constituents. They'd be wiser to have Andrew Brandt on their side next time instead of the blustery rhetoric they got from Jesse Jackson II

Wow.....Players not getting much of a raise.

I think the contract runs into 2020 IIRC.

However, flog me at will if I'm not crying for the players. I'm also no fan of the owners

I'm crying over the $ 11 beers and $40 parking and the $ eleventy billion dollar jerseys

Wonder how hot the poker will be that DirecTV shoves up my ample ass this season ?

I read somewhere that Direct TV, might not bid on the next Sunday Ticket contract, it's getting too expensive at 2-3 B in TV rights.  So, you could possibly see ala carte pricing in the future.

If the cap goes from 123 to 135 mil it also likely means UFA may not be nearly as exciting for teams who thought as recently as 3 weeks ago they couldn't keep player A and B. Now they probably can and give them what they want meaning they will never hit the market.

That means quality safeties like Byrd and TJ Ward or DE's like Hardy may not be going anywhere. I also imagine guys are going to be overpaid because now teams have the cap space to give them a contract they wouldn't have gotten in seasons past.

The salary cap going up some much is bad news for the Packers in the short run (free agents they can sign) but good for them in the long run. The big contracts that Rodgers and Mathews are now a lesser percentage of the Packers overall cap. It also means that if the Packers were negotiating the deals now it would take a lot more to resign Rodgers and Mathew, so it is good they got those contracts done last year.

It also means the contract for franchise players in the future probably has taken a big bump up.

I heard this morning there are reports that the cap is projected to grow to 150 million in a couple years. If that reports is true the Packers Rodgers and Mathew contracts are real bargins. It also means we can expect to see some massive contract amount gowth this year.

It went up $10 million per team x 32 teams = $320 million in growth

If it goes up to $150M / team, we're talking about $4.8 billion in player costs for 2016

Where does all that money come from ?

A ever-rising cap is not a fan- friendly situation...

From what I understand the money from the last TV deal (signed 2011) is just now kicking in. Don't know why that revenue was deferred from a cap calculation perspective until now though.
