2014 Week 2 New York vs Green Bay Gamecenter on packers.com

Twitter list for the Jets side of things

Next up, the Packers return to the cozy comfort of Lambeau Field for the 2014 home opener.

No changes to Packers' kick return depth chart

Ryan Wood, Press-Gazette Media

8:45 p.m. EDT September 8, 2014

"I thought we made a poor decision on the one prior to the change," Packers special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum said Monday.

"Just wanted to make sure we were composed back there and Micah did that."

Slocum said only the second return was wrong, not both.

Capers could be mulling defensive changes

By Rob Demovsky | ESPN.com

With another rush-heavy team, the New York Jets (who rushed for 212 yards to lead all 28 teams who have played so far in Week 1) next up on the Packers' schedule, perhaps it's at Jones' spot where the Packers might look to shake things up a la 2012.

However, it's possible the only thing that will change this week against the Jets is what defensive packages Capers uses. After unveiling a 4-3 look against the Seahawks, Capers admitted his plan to use more personnel groupings but fewer schemes did not go as expected because of difficulty deciphering what the Seahawks were doing pre-snap. He could be streamlining that this week.

"I think that the coaches, they're trying to take the responsibility," Packers safety Micah Hyde said. "But I feel like as a player it's definitely on us to go out there and compete against the other team no matter what personnel they're in, no matter what defense we're in." -ESPN

The good news is that GB has rarely followed a loss with another loss over the last few years. Last year was the exception as they lost multiple games in a row without Rodgers. I anticipate they will bounce back.

Jets ran for more yards than they threw for. They dusted off a wishbone option. This game is no place for Hawk and Jones. GB needs guys that can run. Barrington, Perry, Lattimore, Richardson Between CM3 and Peppers. Great test for Capers this week. He better be ready.

If we don't stop the run we're going to see it until we do or....the responsibility is on the offense to score enough points to force the opposing offense into a passing profile. If Rodgers gets humming it puts a ton of pressure on Geno to try to make plays. That's what lets Capers get creative and try to force turnovers. From there it's imperative for interceptions to be attacked and recovered. They were out competed on INTs twice in Seattle. Both were the result of not aggressively securing the ball. The scheme was sound, the pressure was there, but they showed 0 grit at finishing the play. The dbs are going to have opportunities to get a pick.

The Seahawks were a well oiled machine and the Jets are anything but. The QB advantage in the last game was slight. This time it's huge. Listening to some of the Seattle post game there was talk that Russell Wilson was reminding some of Bart Starr. I think that's a very good comparison for him and interesting because it's not often Bart would be the guy people compare modern QBs to. Geno is still raw. I'd imagine the Jets had to show a lot more of what Geno does best to get the win in week one. Rodgers is so far ahead in development that it's easier to fine tune a game plan.

Actually, no. The ultimate responsibility, the PRIMARY responsibility is for our DEFENSE and in particular our interior DL and those ILB's to stop the run. For far too long since winning the SB, MM has put an exorbitant amount of pressure on Rodgers and that offense to continually bail out that porous defense. It's bullsh*t and it's high time Capers and MM require those defense players to pull their head out of their ass and do their job.

Yes when clicking Rodgers and that offense will pile up a lot of points. But I am growing tired of it always being him and that side of the ball that has to cover up for schity, lousy and lazy performances to try and make that defense look far better then it is.

It goes back to accountability. And it's time Capers puts a boot up someones ass, starting now.

I'm as tired of it as you are, but if you look at what position groups have the talent on the team it's tilted considerably to the pass defense over the run defense. It would be fantastic for the run defense to be solid but with what's there it's not going to happen. They need the offense to put points on the board to protect the defense from the run. That's the reality of the roster. They're not good enough in the front seven to compete in tight games.

They weren't good enough last year either but the difference this year should be felt when we jump ahead. To put it another way they're better off in nickel and dime with their DB depth than base with their LBs. They want the other team biased towards passing because we field a better team when our LBs are taken off the field for our DBs.

RODGERS: “You have to be able to move forward and move on. We talked about the mistakes and frustrations and you move forward.”

on SEA defense: "It’s not a group that gives up a lot of great days passing the football… We had some chances….”

on avoiding Sherman: “It comes down to matchups. We don’t have a specific go-to receiver we force it to. We never have…”

“We liked the matchup with Jordy on the left, gave him a lot of opportunities. Didn’t have the right look to throw it over there.”

on Sherman: "I think I said, I hope you get some work this year.” I have respect for the way he plays." Says Sherman laughed about it.

on yelling at Corey Linsley: "We had a fun little interaction when I called the timeout." “Corey took it the right way. He’s a football player and a talented guy. He knows what he’s doing out there.”

“There were times early in my starting career when I would yell at a guy (for running poor route).”

on Rice: "I think everybody who saw the video is shocked, really." “I thought that was maybe a lenient suspension at first. The Commissioner ended up saying as much." “Domestic abuse happens once every 40-some seconds in this country. That’s uncalled for.” "I heard 35% of fan base of NFL being women. For league, it was important to have the right kind of message."

on whether he should've run on third-and-4 in the 2nd Q instead of throwing to Nelson (which went high): "They would've gotten me."

on incomplete fades to Cobb: "I felt good about both the throws. We'd like to complete those. One he said he lost in the lights."

on the last meeting with a Jets, a 9-0 win in 2010: "We had a great offensive day that day."

Jets, "Very well coached team" "A lot of respect for Rex" "They play really good defense"

“We’re going to try and run our offense a little more efficiently this week and try and score some points.”

Players are in shells today and beat writers saying that Bulaga is favoring his knee. I'd be surprised if he's practicing tomorrow in pads/if he plays this week, but it's good that he's at least doing some stuff. Shouldn't miss too much time

Hopefully Lacy is cleared. Being at practice was a good sign at least. Brad Jones can stay in sweats, that's a good look for him

INJURY REPORT

 • LB Brad Jones (thigh) - DNP
 • OT Bryan Bulaga (knee) - limited
 • RB Eddie Lacy (concussion) - DNP
 • TE Brandon Bostick (leg) - limited
 • CB Demetri Goodson (concussion - full

MCCARTHY

 • (Lacy) Near the end of the protocol. He's had good workouts. Progressed very quickly.
 • (Bulaga) Bryan's workload was going through individual. Champing at bit to go. See where we progress with padded work.
 • (On Brandon Bostick) Got a chance to watch him on kickoff coverage. We'll see how he does in pads.
 • (On Geno Smith) I think he's done a lot of good things. He's doing things well conceptually. He'll be a challenge.
 • (On Rex Ryan defense) Size and length of defensive line is obvious. It's true even with their backups. Excellent depth. I like their ILBs, the way they run and hit. This is uncommon opponent for us.
 • (On Rodgers bouncing back) Aaron has a lot of pride. We're really focused on the plan. Every week you have a new plan. Spent time on Jets. We plan on playing better.
 • (On Brad Jones) Just not able to go. He's injured and doubt he would be able to go tomorrow.Fighting this thing for weeks. Definitely didn't help him.
 • (On tackling) Football is about fundamentals. You have drills you do repeatedly. Comes down to footwork. Things we did not do well in area of approach. Drills today.
 • (On read option) I think the play that stressed us in Seattle, it's a read option that turns into pass. It's a hard action to respond to. I have not seen that from Jets. But there are similarities. Biggest thing is assignment. Those things we were working on since day one. We'll be ready.

Mike sounds surprised that ILBs can actually do that.

Really MM, you could have just stopped there.

Jesus Christ, you fukkers are getting ridiculous. What would you have him say? "I definitely plan on taking Sherrod's deficiencies into consideration while I game plan for the Jets this week. Just want to get that out there, so everyone is clear. Sherrod's deficiencies are not something that I'm not considering while getting ready for this week's game. Mostly, I just want to stand up here and give all of the message board know-it-alls all the fodder they could possibly need to make themselves feel better while I construct a plan that will employ, really employ, all of Sherrod's deficiencies, all of which I am seriously taking into consideration while game planning for this week's game against the New York Jets, a team that, after we beat them about 42 to 13, will have played a major role in re-establishing all of these dickheads' self-esteem, even though they don't have a goddamn thing to do with anything that happens regarding the Green Bay Packers, starting around 8:00pm EST Sunday night, 09/14/14."

I think the Pack will win this game easily. The players, I'm sure, want to forget about Seattle as soon as possible. what better way than to beat the jets at home 30 to 13.. after that we have 3 straight division games. I think it would be best to be 1 and 1 before that series starts.
