Lotta speculation in CHI media about Eberflus's future with the Bears.  There was one report from an undisclosed "close friend" of Poles that he was going to stick with him through his contract.  I'm not sure that would be in the best interest of his own career but it's hard to make a case for a guy who's decisions have very possibly lost them at least two games so far this season.

I still say it's lucky they have him because that roster has more than enough talent to win more games.  If they don't f him up, CW is going to be very good.  He and their O did enough to win that game, especially some of the passes on that last drive.  If they had run another play or two to get a few more yards, or if Santos wasn't such a low trajectory kicker, it would have been enough.

I think they had too much on CW's plate earlier and then got caught with starters missing time on an already suspect OL, along with an OC out of his depth.  It looks like they simplified the game plan for him, gave him more quick rhythm throws and let him use his legs more and it was a noticeable improvement over the last several games.

They have a murderer's row for the rest of their schedule but if they can get to 9-8 or maybe even 8-9, they might just keep their HC.  Makes it hard to root against them!

Bears fan dad whimpering and stunned leaving the stadium after their last second loss to "The Mighty Green Bay Packers" answering his crying 10 year old daughter who while crying incoherently "daddy why can't we have nice things like beating the cheese heads"?  And he responds, tears welling in his eyes at his daughters discomfort "well dear we suck and the Packers own us."

They can have all the nice things they want from Carol House Furniture in StL MO.  There advertisements proclaiming "Carol House - because you like nice things" have been on TV for years.

CH - Furniture1

Who needs football to have "nice things"?  They should forget football and focus on furniture - they both start with the letter "F".  Besides, a new stadium for 100 fans has to be cheaper to build than one for 65000 fans.  There are benefits for losing if you know where to look.

You guys make it seem like the 80’s were the good old days. One winning season,  a strike shortened season at that. In what world is winning one playoff game in a decade deemed competitive.

Im a tough grader.

Two winning seasons, four losing seasons, four at 8-8.

To say they sucked, from today's 30 year run of success is revisionist.  I remember the 80's teams or at least 81-89.  They fielded competitive teams with top ten offenses in 82,83,84,89.  Anyone who watched them will remember how fun those teams were, especially 89.  The most painful years were the four 8-8 seasons because they always showed enough promise to get your hopes up then fall short in the last couple games of the season, missing WC opportunities.  They'd beat some top team they weren't supposed to then lose to someone they shouldn't have.

I'd call them average or mediocre but not terrible.  Look at the current factories of sadness around the league if you want terrible.  Hell, look at the bears' last ten years.

The 8-8 seasons I remember most.

Remember starting 1-7 then going 7-1 under Forrest Fire! As HC?

I don't recall that run specifically but I will bet the one loss in the 7-1 happened in the last two weeks OR some team we needed help from in tie breakers to get WC didn't come through.

Those 8-8 teams really scarred me.  I remember thinking at some point, as a kid, that the Packers were in a tier of the nfl that simply wasn't allowed to be in the playoffs.  That was reserved for "other" teams and was an unattainable alternate reality for a fan.  I remember watching the playoffs and SBs and thinking I was just watching a different league.  After the excitement of 89 and then the collapse in 90 I was resigned to the fact I'd never see a SB win in my lifetime.

It did seem like we'd never get there given the market size and limited free agents willing to come. Bringing in Bert and Reggie was a ceiling breaker. We've never looked back. Except AR's 6-10 season. Hash tag blessed.

Since Chris Berman was mentioned in another thread, I remember him calling the Packers "the mark of mediocrity" (or something very similar) after the third or last 8-8 season.

Fat bastard.

That’s really all you needed.

They sucked in the 80's.

Fun to watch? Hell yeah.

Good? Hell no. Guys, we have seen what success looks like. We don't have to pretend that the 80's were anything but a failure.

At some point you'd think they'd learn not to video themselves, or at least not post the vid when things inevitably go horribly, (and hilariously), rong.

Bears fans have issues.

Disagree. People love attention, especially social media attention.   Doesn’t matter if my team lost. I’ll just act like a moron and people will check little thumbs  ups or little hearts. And that makes them feel important.

(Secretly hoping to get several for this post)

I think Caleb Williams has much more potential than Trubisky or Justin Fields. The Bears job is likely to be one of the better ones available this offseason. As a Packers fan, I'd be somewhat concerned that someone like Ben Johnson would take it. With 20/20 hindsight, the Bears fire Eberflus after last season and hire Jim Harbaugh.

Rumor was Harbaugh didn't want to coach in CHI because of the McCaskey's constant meddling.

Local radio thinks the firing isn't just about Eberflus but also about giving Brown a full on audition.  Bears are apparently really impressed with what he's done with CW and the offense the last two weeks, among other attributes they think could make him the next HC.  There is still the underlying problem of why the braintrust hired Waldron as OC instead of Brown (both were candidates at the time) when Brown is so clearly better at the job.

But considering all the coaches the bears have had since Lovie, it's quite an accomplishment to be the first to get axed in-season.

CW is going to be much better than Trubisky or Fields.  He already is.  It just might be hard to see because he is still making rookie mistakes, which you can't really fault him for.  So long as CHI doesn't give him more floppers at HC and builds around him, he's going to be a pain in the arse in the NFCN for a long time.

The B***s fired Matt Eberflus this morning. The first in-season firing of a HC in Chicago’s history

OC Thomas Brown will serve as interim HC.

Did Virginia McCaskey finally die or something?

Agreed.  CW definitely has a skill set that is very promising and he has really started showing glimpses of his talent in the past month especially.

He does seem a little bit less accurate than I thought he’d be, but some of that might be due to a combo of getting used to the speed of the NFL as a rookie and being behind a well below average offensive line.
