I like what Ted did this draft. Not a lot of holes on the roster to start with and the picks addressed the ones that were there. I don't have a problem with picking for need if the kids can play so we'll see how this shakes out in a couple of months.

Getting the OL picks, if they pan out, is especially good not only because of the 2017 contract situation but also quality depth. At the end of the day the Packers' window relies on Aaron Rodgers re-establishing himself as the game's best and most dynamic quarterback and you have to have the boys up front to make that happen.

Only wish we could've gotten a pass-catching back with speed but if Cobb and Monty stay healthy MM will be able to throw a lot of change-ups when needed.

Again, on paper this looks like a smart, well-constructed draft. Can't wait to see the new kids in action.

tough to grade a draft until it's 3 or 4 years down the road but this is one of the better drafts I think Ted has had. every pick is awesome.

I am curious to see how Fackrell fits in with the defense; I don't think he'll be limited to just rushing off the edge, he's effective in coverage as well.

GM Ted Thompson on the 2016 draft

By Lori Nickel of the Journal Sentinel

Green Bay - Packers general manager Ted Thompson spoke to the media in the auditorium at Lambeau Field at the conclusion of the draft. Here are some of the highlights (this blog post is being written live and will be updated until 4:30 or 5 p.m. Sorry for any early typos).

~The draft takes the cumulative work of lots of people. Thompson appreciates everybody in the organization an the staff. It seems to grow in importance every year with the added attention from the media. "The amount of pressure - it can be on some people. Not me of course...but on some people, it's kind of an intense time."

On Kyle Murphy: We like him a lot. Had several guys out on West Coast to evaluate. Big man. Plays well. A favorite of OL line James Campen. Very smart. Obviously.

He will play G or T?: I don’t know. I'm going to say tackle for now because that’s what I have seen him play. "Over time, through mini camps and training camps, practices - if he evolves in to something else - I don't know that. I wouldn't be the guy to kind of determine that."

Trevor Davis on returning: It’s important - returning. As well as protection and security of the ball; home run threat, speed and quickness. Like to have that NFL – but wants security more. "Making sure that we get the ball to the offense."

A gem of a fifth round find there: Yes. "His catching it in the pro days and Indy and all that - it's very impressive."

Dean Lowry: 100% all the time. Very intelligent, strong, leader of that team - or one of them. Blue collar. "The more you watch the more you appreciate."

Add bulk and size to defensive side of ball: We do think we were able to do that. You don't have to be big to play in the NFL but it helps.

Defense: We've tried to make the other side, special teams included, dominant. Defense is the same. We do think we added some quality people.

Toughest postion to draft or scout: You project how a person is going to be six months from now. They're 20 year old guys, still growing and developing. This is a strong organization, strong locker room, extraordinary veterans.

On offense: We feel fine (there). The predominantly defensive picks more reflect on who was available, best guys available in the Packers' eyes.

Two LBs are 250 or lighter: There's a tendency now that, with more pressure on linebackers because offenses are attacking LBs more. You have to have a skill set which requires quickness and speed. Have to have all of them.

Want brainiacs? This group has potential to be extraordinary. It helps to be smart in this game. Don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar.

West Coast influence: I learned everything I know from Ron Wolf. Have to give scouts enough space to blossom as scouts. If you don't, if you ignore what they say, then you're going to squash their ability to do great things.

On Sam Seale, long long time veteran scout here: The number of hours they've sat together and talked football, done film work - it's special. Ted is thankful.

Mike Neal has moved on? As Eliot Wolf said earlier today?: I wouldn't characterize it like that. There's different things that could happen that would change things.

Not a huge fan of the Martinez pick. But his mom is hot so it pushes the grade to a B-.

After that it's a lot of slob muscle and a burner. A-  overall.

Grading drafts is pretty easy.

Seale is going to be completely full of himself when everyone gets together for the post draft BBQ. Scout in Florida is going to get really drunk and say things like "why don't we ask Sam if the burgers are done?..... Huh?..... Let's ask Sam...... He knows everything.... "

Coach Mike McCarthy on NFL draft

By Lori Nickel of the Journal Sentinel

Green Bay - Now we are hearing from coach Mike McCarthy in the media auditorium of Lambeau Field. This will wrap up the press conferences and conference calls over the last three days.

Same thing: I'm typing as he's talking. Sorry for any early typos. Will try to clean up by 5:30-6 p.m., thanks for your patience.

~ Two tackles, help at that position down road: There's a desire to get bigger. We've accomplished that. I look at the draft board like a game plan - you need to stick to it. Stay true to the board - but you can never have enough big men. It's a big man's game. Challenges during the season, you have to make sure you take care of things up front.

~ Can plug in defensive guys with already doing? Or expand?: Expand. Lowry is a true 5-technique with his length. They will tailor game to players.

~ Martinez: Lot's of experience. It's going to be a competitibe 90-man roster. We need as many as we can.

~ ILB important in what way?: Have command. Clay Matthews did that last year.

~ Kenny Clark helps right away: B.J.'s situation, injuries - player aquisition is fluid. You can't have enough big guys up front. I was hoping to come out of here with as many big guys, offensive and defense, as possibe.

~ Trevor Davis: Potential returner, important here especially in November through January. He will be given opportunity to compete.

~ WRs: Not concered about overall speed, I will say that right now. Got a 4.3 guy. They can run fast, they can go over the middle.

~ Stanford, Northwestern guys equate intelligence: It definitely helps. The information revolution, the access they have - knowledge is power.

~ OL Jason Spriggs and Kyle Murphy: We've taken tackles in the past. The more you can do increases your value to the football team.

~Eddie Lacy and Jared Cook look in offseason program so far?: Good. Jared making transition seamlessly, in great shape. Eddie is a lot further ahead than he was last year.

~ Can players from big programs make transition here faster?: Are you testing my analytics? It can help. Yes. ... But don't want to make that assumption automatically.

~ Offseason program is a big part of success. Can't recall the last time they haven't had 100% attendance from players for the voluntary program.

~ A threat on offense now?: Defenses were aggressive with us last year. No doubt about it.

~ MM role in draft?: Just be a part of the conversation. Just trust that board those guy put so much time in to. Talk about the roster already in existence. Ted sits in the big chair. He has to make those final decisions.

~ OK with being coach and not coach AND GM?: I don't know how you can run a draft the way it needs to be ran - and run a football team. I've slept at the office, all of that - I don't think it's feasible. I'd be cheating one job.

~ How's the offseason program so far?: It's a great vibe. Team meeting room on April 19, you would have thought we were preparing for a playoff game. Not the same when they're not here. They bring so much energy to the building.

Before the draft I thought Abby was the longshot, barring injuries, he's got to the be the guy sweating the most

Based solely on performance, it should be Davante, even before the draft.

Chances are good he will report looking like his rookie self, but it is not a given. If he looks like 2015 and not 2014, he's the one who will be gone.

Except Adams isn't going anywhere. He isn't. Adams was a big reason GB had the lead at halftime in the Wild Card game in Washington. He started the Packers opening possession of the second half with a 10 yard catch and then Richard Rodgers fell on him and 2015 was over.

Adams isn't going anywhere.

2 of those names jump out. I've seen some articles on Callahan because he threw for 11 million yards and 7,000 TDs playing D3. Or something like that. The other name that popped up quite a bit was Kentrell Brice.

Kentrell is described as a guy that truly loves playing football. Good article on him here.

Jordy, Cobb, Adams, Ty, Davis, Janis, Abby. 6 of those guys are making the roster. Jared Cook. Richard Rodgers. Solid OL with depth now. 225 lb Eddie. Even with our marginal QB that's ****ing impossible to stop.

No one (short of maybe #12) should have their job guaranteed for them no matter what, including Davante Adams.  We were all there when he returned from injury last year, including Ted, Mike and the whole world.  If he reports to camp playing like he did then, he definitely should be looking over his shoulder just like everyone else.

It's my opinion Adams was figuring things out when Rodgers fell on him. I'm also not holding any player responsible for what they did or did not do during the great 2015 Clements clown parade.

No really, point taken.

Mike's going to tell them they all need to earn their job back every year. Obviously it's not true for everyone.  He's still going to say it.  For D.A. I'd say it is definitely true.
