Barrington's release isn't that shocking. Had a really quiet camp and Martinez showed a lot in his rookie camp. Agree with GD, Joe Thomas surprised me as well.
Not official, but been told Sitton has indeed been released.
Sitton is a strong willed no BS guy. He pretty much called out McCarthy in the last half of the 2015 regular season for the playcalling especially the lack of a sustained commitment to the run game.
He is also the de facto leader of the OL group which by all appearances is the closest-knit group on the team.
I suspect Ted and Mike aren't willing to let 71, who is no shrinking violet, raise a little hell either internally and/or externally about getting paid. Guy with his resume probably expects his last contract to be a bell-ringer.
With all the other impending FAs queued up I can see Ted wanting to send a shot across a lot of bows. 1265 will make a fair offer but won't overpay. Especially for a vet with back issues on the backend of his career.
Not much else makes sense unless there's a big personality conflict between Sitton and the coaches that has been under the surface for a while. We heard rumblings of bad juju in the locker room as the latter half of last season unfolded.
EDIT: Or a possible PED issue as mentioned above. That could explain why there aren't any trade partners.
But if he's an FA at the end of the season, why not just let him play out the contract. Or do they really think they have better options?
I don't think it's super crazy that teams wont trade for him. Maybe they are low balling? Teams also know they'll have a shot at waivers.
I thought it might come down to an either/or between Barrington and Bradford, but I didn't see both of them being cut.
Chit is getting weird at the wire...
Interesting take cuqui

That was quick...
I don't think he's eligible for Waivers. I think he's just an FA. I'm shocked some team wouldn't give up even a late round pick for him. Some team that doesn't want to risk him going elsewhere in FA.
Let's wait for the rest of the story to come out...no need for all the emotional outbursts at this point.
WTF is Thompson doing??????
Uncle Ted has a history of letting FA vet OL guys leave. This is a BFD.
Sitton "not injury, not salary", then why?
Edit: I bet it may have been something he said or did.
Silverstein: "Once sitton's agent put out the news that the Packers were cutting him, Packers had no leverage to trade"
None of it makes any sense at all, we need Paul Harvey and the rest of the story

Either thinking about the salary cap, or getting rid of a locker room cancer. One of those two things. Maybe both. We'll find out.
That doesn't make sense. Didn't he blackball that reporter last year after he wrote a negative article about Guion? Hardcore racists don't, by nature, defend other races.
FML.....everything was looking good too {sigh}
My 1 criticism of TT is I feel he never gets enough in a trade. Really pisses me off & simply releasing Sitton is mind-boggling

Not sure if serious.
Started new thread on Sitton, here:

Could be neither. So much crapola being flung around right now
Odd tweet of the day.
Surprise cut of day: Ravens released RB Justin Forsett, league source tells ESPN.

No surprise but Sanchez was cut by Denver per Rotoworld. I'd rather have him, 2017 1st round pick, and 2018 4th round pick than Bradford

With no deal being offered Sitton there had to be tension and its possible it was best for both sides to move on.

The Packers are releasing long-snapper Rick Lovato, per sources. Not sure if they're bringing back Brett Goode,... https://t.co/r3SpRu4XCj

Marwin Evans makes the #Packers roster. That would be five UDFA rookies: Evans, Brice, Callahan, Hawkins and Burks.

Or, his legendary "Potpourri" of the days' news!

#Packers have released WR Geronimo Allison, per league source.
Well that does it. I'm joining the Jaguars bandwagon.
With Geronimo's release, have to believe JJ and Abby, make it?
Just checked Packers.com roster. They still have 74 players listed but Sitton is not listed but all other potential cuts are. Interesting to say the least.
Has the final 53 been announced yet?
Cuts were due an hour ago?
I suspect TT is hiding the information because he wants them on the PS. The less other teams know the better. It could be that after we win the SB we will still be wondering who those cuts were.
Man what is with this roster? Think I saw they are keeping 13 DB's and only 3 ILB. Gotta assume one of those Safeties, maybe even 2 will be one of those S/ILB hybrids?
They actually kept friggin Joe Callahan and Brandon Burks on the roster. They need to find a new LS to since they cut Lovato

Yes - and by my count 7 WRs - remember when some said TT would never do that? Not knocking anyone - just saying. By my count there are really 3 moves that need to be made. The LS cut is a wash since we will need one. I think S Whitehead could go, CB Dealorant could be cut, and WR Trevor could be IR'd. That would do it.
In other news, the Queens cut three of their 2016 draft picks, including their 4th round pick. Great batting average over there at Winter Park.
They don't sign their picks; they use them to trade for QBs.
