Either re-sign Lang or Tretter, but do not waste limited resources signing both.

Why would you want Datone Jones back? He is not a natural outside linebacker. He had 1 sack this season. He is a mental midget who often jumps offsides. What is the attraction?

And Christine Michael? There is a reason he was on the street after Seattle cut him for the third time and he is on his fourth team. A knucklehead extraordinaire.

As for drafting a lock-down CB (at pick 29) do you mean like Randall? Because there are not a lot of lockdown CBs who get drafted that late.

And how many years have we asked for an athletic ILBer? Do you really expect them to suddenly make that a priority this offseason?

If TT is going to avoid free agency (and not make a trade for a veteran player) yet again, the defense will continue to be a sieve in 2017.

I believe we should also get Jim Brown's clone and Reggie's ghost.

I agree. Guys that fit the talent for criterion #3 don't exactly grow on trees. #3 is basically saying draft Derrell Revis and Brian Urlacher in the spring.

Right now, I'd settle for competent CBs. I think guys in the NFL fall into 3-4 categories.

Category 1. Difference makers/impact players. There are a handful of these guys in the league any given year. They generally end up in the Hall of Fame. That means Aaron Rodgers right now and CM3 a few years ago. Opposing teams have to game plan to minimize the chance they'll beat team almost on their own.

Category 2. Guys that aren't necessarily HOFers, but are good to great players in the right circumstances. They make an occasional Pro-Bowl. Jordy Nelson, Mike Daniels, Bakhtiari, Lang are a few examples

Category 3. These are guys that you can win with, but are easily replaceable. Linsley, Lane Taylor, Allison, etc. The key thing is they are guys that aren't liabilities to the point where they'll lose games for you.

Category 4. These are the guys that play so poorly they lose games for you. Opposing teams game plan to take advantage of these guys.

The 2016 Packers could have used another guy in Category 1 (who couldn't?), but they had plenty of guys in Category 2. The problem was they had way too many guys in Category 4. When your entire CB roster fits in this category (either due to playing with injuries or just playing ineptly) it's hard to win. In 2014, our ILBs had degraded to being Category 4 guys. When the Packers have lost in the playoffs it's often been because the bottom third of their roster makes killer mistakes, not because their top tier guys played poorly.

There are Great players, we have one, there are good players we have a few.  The rest are just guys.  It is nearly impossible to get Great players and damn hard to get good players, therefore it is imperative to get and keep and coach up the just guys.  Get the best just guys and make them better....pretty simple.

Seems to me that's what Billy does.

Agree Pikes. Seems that's what MM has done on offense. Yes, we have the best QB in the game, but MM is able to scheme and get guys open. Without any RBs he was able to still generate at least a resemblance of a running game in Monty and Rip. Guys still get open down running routes.

But that doesn't happen on D. It seems Capers just schemes to scheme. How many times have we seen guys not know what the call is or are unsure? When was the last time we saw our D dictate a game? Instead, we are just hoping our D can keep it close so our O can win.

I completely agree about the D.  Honestly, when was the last time we said "man what an amazing shut down performance by that D!"  It has been awhile.

Anyhow for the to do list I would say signing Lang and Cook are two players they have to try as hard as they can to sign.  What Cook brings to this offense has changed it entirely.  Lang is a very good lineman and good OL who wants to stay you need to get it done.

Lacy?  maybe for a reasonable 1 year contract heavy in incentives such as staying under 260 pounds.  Nick Perry maybe might be another one I would think about.

In the draft I think most of us would be very happy if they went very heavy on defense.  I would also consider drafting a RB and some OL depth.  Corner would be the top priority.
